Former Iowa State star Royce White had nothing good to say about Kentucky’s Michael Kidd-Gilchrist during a recent interview with SI.com: SIPabloTorre Royce, on Michael Kidd-Gilchrist: "I don’t like that kid. He’s too hyped up. He’s not as good as they think he is. He’s a kid. I’m a man."

He also spent some time taking shots at Andre Drummond: SIPabloTorre Asked Royce what he told Drummond, who’d downplayed ISU frontcourt, in ISU-UConn:

"’You f—– up. You talked too much.’ A teaching point."

UPDATE: White has responded on Twitter: Highway_30 #BBN @MikeGillie14 I think is VERY talented, my comments were more about our age difference. Have nothing but respect for UK and Coach Cal Highway_30 #BBN The context of what I said was based on what @MikeGillie14 said prior to our game in the tourney.

I doubt this helps his stock seeing as how most teams already think he is a headcase.

Wow lol, Kidd-Gilchrist did a great job defending him in the tourny too (even though he sacrificed his scoring). Not going to matter much in the pros, but this is quite interesting for right now.

Royce is a very intelligent young man and he has a point.

Ultimately, MKG is going to have to score big in the NBA.  He can’t just be a 6’7" defensive specialist at SF who works hard and averages 10-12 ppg in the NBA.  That’s why the Bobcats got cold feet on him. They didn’t see much upside in his ppg.  Can’t see MKG being a point forward like Andre Iguodala either.  He’ll never be the passer/ball handler that Iguodala is.  To be an all-star in this league, MKG will ultimately have to score on the level of Ron Artest (prime years) or Danny Granger.  I think he can.  It’ll be interesting to see if he will.

I’m glad that White clarified on what appeared to be a surprisingly cheap statement. Context is an amazing thing sometimes.

As for Drummond, White has a point, Drummond should’ve destroyed Iowa State, instead it was Drummond who ended up being the punching bag in that game, sure he had four blocks but there should’ve been a stronger overall production from him.

If this drops him somebody will get a steal.  He is compare to Anthony Mason who was a beast.  I am sure Mason talked mad trash.  Also it they are playing the same position then White could have the better career because he can do more stuff than MKG on the court right now.

A lot of analyst always fall in love with players who never amount to anything.  That is why they try to shy away from all quotes of them saying stuff about players they liked that never became any good.

People have compared Royce White to a poor man’s LeBron James, but he’s actually more like Charles Barkley as a player and person.

I can imagine the young Chuckster saying something like that.

Or the old Chuckster, for that matter.

Just have to laugh at how many people just discoutn MKG’s offense like he put up 2ppg on a bad team. He put up 12ppg on a team with 4 other NBA players in a offense that stressed TEAM on nother good team like Duke,OSU he would put up 17 easily. The kid can score he just didn’t have to. And when he did have the green light he put the ball in the basket, Lousiville was one of the best defensive teams in the nation and he dropped 24 on them. He scored 17 on a front line of lotto picks in UNC. His issue is consistant jumper not his offense.

I don’t like the Barkley comparison. Barkley gets away with saying stuff like that because everyone knows hes goofy and hes friends with a lot of the guys he rips on. Royce White just sounds like an angry anti social guy.

However, The guy can flat out play though and I think White will be a solid NBA player. I like to see NBA players who hate their opponents and have no problem with what White said or how he acts. The NBA needs more guys like that and less guys like Carmelo laughing his assss off while the Heat wreck his team.

idk i don’t see angry guy, Royce actually looked very intellignet smart and just a grown man recently..

as far as his talent yes i believe he is underrated and there would be no surprise to see him as a top10 player from this draft ..everything depends how well he will score and how he ballhandling will translate..if he can score that he will get big minutes and everythong assists rebounds and all other allaround stuff will come from this guy..

talking about MKG, yes his scoring makes us anxious but he is the real deal…if you are looking at 6’7 233 guy who can’t shoot and is only great defender yes yes he is no top5 but you have to look at him knowing he is THE youngest player is the draft he is still skinny but already strong and big he will easily just maturing will become maybe even 6’8 and well above 240 w/o losing any athleticism his transition play his elavation could be nearly unstoppable and you have to know he has great work ethic i mean GREAT..im like 90% guaranteed he will him his ceiling sooner or later..he might be the youngest but at the same time the most sure thing in the whole draft

I like both players but what exatly can White do better than MKG in the future?  MKG could have played point forward on that team with power forwards or small forwards  guarding them. I don’t think i’m going out on a limb to say that MKG at 21 would be better than Royce was this year at 21 ( MKG is only 19 right now) and Royce only put up 1 more ppg and 1 and a half rebound more yet no one talks about Royce’s lack of scoring yet mention MKG being a scoring liability lol
