McDunkinFishers, In. (WISH) – Butler senior point guard Ronald Nored is hoping to stick around Butler long after his playing career comes to an end next spring. The aspiring bench boss has spent the last two summers coaching an AAU team called The Truth.
“He’s not like most AAU coaches,” Bishop Chatard senior Greg Gardner said. “We run offense, we play tough defense. Most AAU coaches let the kids run up and down. We don’t do that – we actually play real basketball.”
Nored is getting ready to start his senior year at Butler, and just like every other college senior across the country, he will have to answer the daunting question that goes hand in hand with every diploma: what’s next?
“My dream job would be to work for (Butler) Coach (Brad) Stevens as long as I can…and yes – he’s very well aware that that’s what I want to do,” Nored laughed.
If Nored joins the Bulldog bench staff next year, his coaching style would provide an entertaining contrast to the cool, unflappable Stevens.
“The way we think is similar, but the way we get it across is different. I’m a little more energetic than he is – he seems to have the cool thing down better than I do,” Nored said.
Nored’s enthusiasm for basketball and passion for coaching have already helped him win over even the toughest of critics.
“He’s the type of person that this game of basketball is not something that he just takes lightly – it’s his passion,” AAU parent Tonee Bell said. “You can see that passion when he coaches, how he interacts with the kids, how he interacts with the parents and even with the other teams. You can tell that he’s just an extension of Brad Stevens. This i s Butler basketball.”
“I think basketball is a great tool for life beyond basketball,” Nored said. "At some point all of us are going to be done playing and we have to have some character, some characteristics to help us in life when all this done. I enjoy being part of a group that is still learning that and teaching another group of people that."

hiphopismylifeParticipantMakes sense. A guy who got the most out of his abilities and played extremely hard with high character. He fits the mold of a coach.
