When was he ever committed to NC State before? He was once committed to Lousiville.

I think it’s great for both sides. A combination of Purvis with Lorenzo Brown and Tyler Lewis next year puts this program in the right dierection. They’ll have a backcourt that can compete with anybody.

Why are highly-recruited players even considering NC State? They’re not a good basketball program.

I think they feel that they can get more pt than playing at a traditional power and still get exposure by being in a good conference. Some players want to play for their home town team too like how Kyle Anderson considered Seton Hall and Ledo committed to PC.

^^ And to add to that, for what it’s worth, Mark Gottfried has always been a charismatic personality who can get good recruits to play for him. He fielded some underachieving Alabama squads, but it was not because he didn’t have nice talent and personel.

Hell yea my school got a good recruit, I hope CJ Leslie is still around when he arrives. Him and Lorenzo will make a respectable backcourt in the ACC. This will help out NC State a lot in the quest to become a legitiment threat in the ACC and maybe Purvis has what it takes to take us back to the NCAA tournament again. Its been too long.

As a Duke fan I’m nothing but excited by this commit. This kid has great character and has potential to be a lottery pick. Always happy to see our conference strengthed by a talent like Purvis.

Hopefully this commitment gives confidence to other ACC schools. I am also a Duke fan and I don’t like it when only Duke and UNC are signing all the top talents for the Conference.

a program has to start somewhere. Duke wasn’t always a national power, all it takes is the right coach and the right big time recruit

You’re right Duke was practically a nobody, but a commit from Gene Banks in 1977 was Coach K’s first big time recruit, and now look at where they are. Arguably one of the top 5 programs of all time.

Woow you combine Rodney Purvis with another commit heading to NC State in Torian Graham you’re talking bout some major fire power on offense!!! And they compliment each other very well, Purvis is an attacking style very athletic combo and Graham is a Doron Lamb like shooter imo. Nice gets for the Gottfried and the program!!!

Along with what some of you said, there are risks taken in recruiting. Thats what makes it interesting. Coaches in a position like Mark Gottfried probably use the pitch that a guy like Rodney Purvis can put his hometown team on the map nationally again

Purvis reminds me of Josh Selby. He’s in that same mold of a 6’3/6’4 scorer who will be questioned about his position at the NBA level. To guys like that, production is their best friend. In addition, they need the ball in their hands and to be major focal points in order to be productive.

Now Selby had injuries, but even if healthy Kansas didn’t prove to be the best fit for him as a 1 and done, major imact guy. Purvis might be able to do that by going to NC State.

Is the athleticism there as well, because you all know how I feel about Selby?

Yeah josh selby is someone he kinda reminds me of. Also a lower level dWayne wade in the fact he can play the 1 or 2 and can get to the whole at will and his physical make up

memphis tyga23 he’s not quite the leaper Selby is but still very impressive. He’s a better in-game dunker than he would be in a dunk contest. He does a lot of what John Wall would do in high school of just picking the ball up and sprinting coast to coast and finishing. He’s got that same mental gear and finishing ability, just not quite John Wall speed.

Like the DWade comparison I heard as well.

memohis tyga23 what are your thoughts on Selby? I don’t know them. Are you a believer?

Hopefully the ACC can gain some continuity with their Head Coaches, only then can they really get back to where they were when they were arguably the best CBB conference in the NCAA.

Six current ACC schools are currently in the Top 25 of the ESPN recruiting rankings.

    10. Maryland
    11. Virginia
    14. NC State
    17. North Carolina
    20. Wake Forest
    25. Duke

And each school has a chance to add more high-profile recruits. This is great for the conference and will hopefully lead to more parity.

Also a very big Selby believer. His game wasn’t for that system. You might have seen someting similar with Steve Francis in college if he went to Kansas( not the year he went to maryland but if it was last year)
