Just browsing the internet and came across this article. Pretty crazy to think about the NBA adding a 4 point line. Obviously nothing seems too serious about it, just pretty interesting to think about. Here is what Rod Thorn said in an interview..

"During a sitdown TrueHoopTV interview with our own Henry Abbott, Thorn was asked about the chances that a 4-pointer — as outlandish as it may seem — could be brought to the NBA at some point.

Thorn seemed genuinely intrigued at the notion and revealed that the 4-pointer has “come up” in league discussions.

“Oh man,” Thorn told Abbott, “Some of the players we have can shoot the ball 30 feet as easily as they can shoot 23, 24 feet.” One of those players? Vince Carter. Thorn recalled a moment when he ran the New Jersey Nets from 2000 to 2010 as team president and general manager. As players tend to do at practice, Carter would showcase his shot-making abilities from far, far away."

What would y’all think about a 4 point line?

i dont like it at all. I think we will see more shooters and less post players and mid range scorers in the league which already lacks both.  Im not looking foward to teams just running down the court having an 3 and 4 point shooting contest.

Can you imagine your team being down 5 points and the announcer saying, "it is down to a one possession game with a five point play."  Just strange to think about.  I don’t see much traction to a 4 point line.

Well not once in my life of watching basketball have I ever heard an announcer call a four point game a one possession game so you can be assured that won’t happen.

I would hate it. Don’t think that a team should be able to tie the game being down 4 points

yes. concerning teams, add a development team for each nba team. make each development team have 15 players on their roster. reduce the roster size of an nba team to 10 and plug and play whatever from development team if needed.

yes to add 3 on 3 to the all-star game. it will be in the olympics soon anyways.

within the game play of basketball, i would leave the rules alone, unless you want offensive goal tending interference allowed like in international play.

The court should definitely be widen. If there was another 6 feet on either side that would make a huge difference. It would stretch the floor more, which is good for the league, and wouldn’t compromise courtside seating too much.

But the 4 pointer is too drastic of a step.

The 3 point rule works well, I would be reluctant to change it but it would make defence more interesting and spread the court space a lot more.

I think the idea of a four point line is a gimmick. Its unnessecary, the core essence of the game and its rules dont need to be dramatically changed. I’m not sure the reasonsing or thinking as to why a 4pt line might even be considered, if it is to make the game more exciting then my alternative solution would be to adjust little rules. Allow ‘goaltending’ in the way that FIBA does, you can knock it off the rim, or teams arent able to call timeouts when they are rolling around in a scramble, only on a dead ball. Or specifically, in the last two minutes after a made basket. It would help speed up the game (the limited time-outs) IMO.
