Knicksboy34ParticipantRicky Rubio decides to stay overseas after going 5th in the draft….makes no sense. I honestly believe that it’s more unfair to College players, the Drafting GM, the whole Organization and the NBA. I remember in 2000, the Knicks took Fredric Weis and he went, got killed by Vince and never came over to the NBA. Oh Yeah, We past on Ron Artest.
I think IMO, there should be a rule against this. Every Year, there are college kids not picked because some teams take Euro Talents and some panned out but most dont, they either come over to the NBA, average between 0.1 and 0.9 for 3 years and go back overseas. Thats a college kid who doesn’t get the chance to get drafted and have to stuggle even more in life going to a team for a practice so on and so forth.
I think the rule should be any Euro talent can come over if they sign a waiver denouncing their rights to remain or return overseas if drafted. That way, there is no ” i dont wanna play at X” or ” place Z is too cold” You play where you get drafted. Also, if the player does not wanna play, that team should keep their rights and not pay them….

Michael.S.Participanti undertstand that this is stupid but Rubio is an exception . cuz of his buyout, and the T’wolves really dont care if he comes NOW, hence Flynn

Knicksboy34ParticipantYea, I mean I read something where one of them is getting Traded…so Rubio may get his wish but i think it’s completely unfair and if I was David Khan…i go and make Flynn my leader and let Rubio stay overseas…

Michael.S.ParticipantDavid Kahn want’s Rubio to stay overseas, cuz it seems like he isnt even trying to trade Flynn or Rubio

Knicksboy34ParticipantTrue. He is waiting for ” a big deal” to move Rubio…he is not gonna get it.

Michael.S.Participantits unlikely but he is highly coveted

Knicksboy34ParticipantI mean the Knicks are his best bet (no because of Im a knick fan)
Nate Robinson, Wilson Chandler and Eddy Curry to Minny for Draft Rights to Rubio and Etan Thomas

0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/06/2009 - 5:23am #176882

0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/06/2009 - 5:26am #176883

Knicksboy34Participantno way…why take Brooks (who i feel is overrated) and a hobbled T-mac that wont play the 1st 25-30 games?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/06/2009 - 5:30am #176885
Michael.S.Participantit;s an option
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/06/2009 - 6:42am #176914
Rubio is a beastParticipantWhy do we need Mcgrady. Minnesota is in rebuiding mode. They want prospects. Not old stars.
A young SG or SF will be needed to get rubio. I think that they will keep him.The Timberwolves own his rights for 3 years, and if he holds out, he will hae the least respect out of anyone in the league. Nobody will take a chance. He will have ruined his career. He needs to come over. Hes going to make tons in the NBA. So he might have to live like normal americans for 2 years while he pays off his buyout. Im guessing he didnt live that much better in Europe. If he doesnt come over, he will have to beat Flynn, and will take at least 2 years to do so. If he comes now, he will have a chance to get it now

Stanford hoopsParticipantso wouldnt that mean the teams also cant darft the euros and then send them overseas for a coupel years…it has to go both ways….if anything that helps college guys make the team because the euros going overseas doesnt count against the roster..if it went by the way you said there would be less college guys playing on the nba teams because the guys the teams drafted to stash overseas would be on the rosters…its alot more important to college players to get signed by a team then to just get there named called at the draft
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/06/2009 - 11:20am #177200

Knicksboy34Participanttrue. make it like 2 years and then a euro player is eligible to return overseas..

Stanford hoopsParticipanti have no problem with the rule..i dont believe it should be easier to get to the nba..and i cant feel to sorry for the college guys because after college they get sooo many offers to play overseas for alot of money…which take up spots that some overseas guy who has worked with the program there doesnt get and the money they were hoping for..so even though the euros take some of our spots int he nba there are many many more college guys and now hs guys who take some of the euros spot and money over there

Knicksboy34Participantlike you? lol
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/06/2009 - 11:30am #177210
WildDudeParticipantI agree, you can only declare for the draft giving the TEAM the option to keep you or cut you… take instance, if you are a senior but have already declared your intentions to play else where- (this is hypothetical) you can’t be drafted in the first round… second round makes sense because nothing is guaranteed.

Stanford hoopsParticipantlol..exactly knicks…let them all go to the nba more money for me in europe..lol
