Western Kentucky of the Conference USA mid major conference has one of the best recruiting classes of the year thanks to Rick Stansbury. Versatile big man Mitchell Robinson is a consensus top 10 recruit and Josh Anderson is a 4 star athletic combo gaurd. They being top end talent to WKU but they also have Taveion Hollinsworth committed a 6’2 gaurd and highschool basketball player of the year in the state of Kentucky.

For those unfamiliar with Rick Stansbury check out an article by Ricky O’Donnell on SB Nation about him. Hes the guy that recruited Jonathan Bender, Travis Outlaw and Monta Ellis only to have them go straight from HS to pro. Also recruited Renardo Sidney at Mississippi St. as an assistant coach. Now at Western Kentucky hes running the show.

Ive always thought more top recruits should go to mid major teams like Western Kentucky. The conference USA is not cakewalk. They are a conference on the rise with Middle Tennessee and Lousiana Tech but still a player of Robinsons level should be able to dominate this conference and wont hurt his draft stock. I think its more compelling than signing to a bad team in a big conference.

    What do you guys think?

Grew up and still live 30 minutes outside Starkville and I met Rick a couple times and he’s a really good guy. They had some pretty decent teams in the 2000s and early 2010s and always thought he was a pretty good coach. I like seeing a top 10 guy going to a school like Western (especially cause it’s my parents’ alma mater). Hopefully we can schedule an in-state game with them next season, all our big guys coming in going against him could be a good matchup
