MatosParticipantI always think about this matter. In some instances you have teams that you’d agree to reward with multiple all-stars due to their success that year. In other instances, it seems vastly accepted that teams like the Cavs, Bulls, even Spurs (by some people) may only have one player from their teams in the ASG. I do understand that some of those elite teams are lead by dominant players who carry a big portion of the load, but I still think that if we’re going to stick to the acceptance of Atlanta having Kyle Korver be an All-Star last year, that a team in the top 2 of their respective conference this year should have at least two teamates playing in the All-Star game.
Thoughts?

Bankroll PJParticipantIt’s not about rewarding the teams, it’s about rewarding the players and their body of work. Some top teams have multiple deserving top players, some don’t. The hawks and Kyle Korver were a special case last year because no coaches knew how to reward one player without rewarding the others in the group.

CanuckBallerParticipantJust working my way down the standings and somebody is getting left out. Starters are set in stone and then worked my way down the standings.
East- Front Court Starters – James (Cle) George (Ind) Anthony (Ny) Reserves Love ( Cle) Millsap (Atl) Drummond (Det) Gasol (Chi)
Back Court starters- Wade (Mia) Lowry (Tor) Reserves- Derozan (Tor) Butler (Chi) Thomas (Bos- sneaks in due to Irving not playing enough games and Wall not being in playoff hunt.
West- Front Court Starters- Bryant (LAL) Durant (OKC) Leonard (SA) Reserves – Green (GS) Aldridge (SA) Griffin (LAC) Cousins (SAC) . Sorry but Top 4 is unstoppable and Cousins is playing like a beast. Davis, Howard get snubbed.
Back Court Starters- Curry (GS) Westbrook (OKC) Reserves – Thompson ( GS) , Paul (LAC) Harden (HOU). Lillard gets snubbed as Cousins currently has Sac in 8th place.

NJHooper95ParticipantThe allstar game is for the best players and if they happened to be on the best teams so be it. Would Kyle Korver be an allstar on the sixers, answer is no, so what’s makes him a allstar in Atlanta because he was with a better team. A great player will shine on a bad team or good team. Anthony Davis is a top player no matter where he is at. Let’s stop masquerading role players as Allstars because they hide behind other great players.

MatosParticipantMy sentiments exactly. Kyle Korver last year wasnt supposed to be an all-star. I understand teams doing well should be rewarded but their reward should be winning a championship if they are good enough. Otherwise, if players like Kyle Korver are gonna get in the ASG, then Kevin Love deserves a spot this year by those means.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI think team success should be one factor in determining if a player vets voted into the all-star game but by no means should it be the deciding factor. Guys like Anthony Davis and Damien lillard should be all-stars this year regardless of their teams record.
However, if 2 players have similar levels of production it makes sense to go with the guy who plays on the better team. You have to keep in mind that it is much harder to put up numbers on a well-balanced roster. Look at the difference between lamarcus Aldridge last year and this year. The numbers were much better last year but you could argue he’s been just as good this year. His role is just much different.
There is really no exact science for picking all-star teams. I can probably think of at least 15-16 guys in the west who have very strong cases but at least 4-5 will be left out.

Stop_basketball_nonsenseParticipantThats ignorant in my opinion, to say some players should be all stars, regardless. Llilard, is on a losing team, davis is on a losing team. Davis’s team is bottom 6 team bad. Davis being a superstar, & llilard being a big name is really carrying the their all star push.
We keep disrepecting winning players by not rewarding their team success. Is davis a top player, yes. Is llilard good, yes, but players on winning teams actually are making a difference in their team’s championship aspirations. I’m not saying these talented, mostly young players on these losing teams won’t be that difference one day, but the present is what matters.
Also regarding Aldridge not trying to be rude, but duh, he is just as good, he is playing on the spurs! He finally is on a team with championship pedigree & a solid bench for once. In my opinion its no argument, its fact. Paul millsap, should definitely have gotten more votes. He actually deserves to start. Marc gasol should also get more all star consideration as well. The grizz.maybe down but they are still winning. The asg is mainly a popularity contest. There is no set criteria.
Kobe got the legacy votes, which is wrong but compared to teams like the pelicans with davis or the blazers with llilard at least he has accomplished greatness & championships with his career.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantDavis and lillard should be all-stars because their play this season warrants it. They just happen to be on teams that aren’t very good. It has nothing to do with name recognition.
I agree with you on Millsap. He is probably having his best all-around season and has easily been Atlanta’s best and most consistent player. He is a no-brainer. Not so sure about gasol though. I still think he is probably the best all-around center in the league but he hasn’t had a great first half by his standards. I would have guys like cousins, Aldridge, nowitski, Davis and of course draymond green all ahead of gasol right now.
