RUDEBOY_ParticipantAccording to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Miami Heat are exploring the idea of trading their 1st round pick (26th overall) to the Knicks for guard Iman Shumpert..The Knicks have been rumored to be looking to acquire a 1st round pick and Shumpert have been mentioned in just about every Knicks trade the past 2 years…
As a Heat fan i love this trade..Miami trades a rookie for a player thats still young, whose a good on ball defender and gives them a capable backup to Wade or starter if Chalmers isnt resigned…..Miami have to select the player for the Knicks then trade him for Shumpert, becuz league rules dont allow teams to trade draft picks in back to back years….

Moon RiverParticipantZach Lowe also tweeted that Shumpert was almost traded to OKC right before the deadline last season, so OKC could be in play as well.

Memphis MadnessParticipantI like this for Miami. D WADE looked pretty bad in the Finals. Ray Allen looked ok, but the Chalmers also looked bad. Shump could be an insurance policy on D Wade at the 2, and Chalmers at point.
The Heat are in WIN NOW MODE. Literally, since they need LeBron to stay in Miami.
If the Heat get Shumpert, then D Wade will know what’s up and might be more willing to renegotiate his contract.
Personally, I am not really sold on anybody at 26.
I think Shabazz Napier would be GREAT at 26. The Heat could use a guy like that shooting the ball and scoring. But, I could also see him doing really well in New York.
Wonder if they can get some sign and trades going. Chalmers, 26 (Napier), Justin Hamilton, and a future second round pick to the Knicks for Shump, Raymond Felton, and Cole Aldrich.
Raymond "Cuban Sandwich" Felton and Mario Chalmers aka Raymond Felton 2.0 might need changes in scenery.
Cole Aldrich gives the Heat a young big man. Hamilton gives the Knicks a cheaper backup backup center.
The Knicks have a new guard core of Hardaway, Jr., Napier, and Chalmers. Look for them to also move JR Smith.
Then if I were Phil Jackson I would let Carmelo resign for four years, then trade him and JR Smith to the T Wolves for Kevin Love, just to piss off Carmelo and "Earl". Oh, and they get Kevin Love out of it.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantUnless its a pick above 20, I think the Knicks will lose the trade.. Shump has some real talent and potential to be a lockdown defender while also averaging around 15 points a game. Perfect 3rd or 4th wheel on a great team.

M-EazyParticipantThis is just dumb. Shump and Hardaway are honestly the only bright spots the Knicks have for the future and they’re willing to trade away Shump for a low first rounder? I know he had a bad year last year but something tells me the Knicks will regret letting him go so soon because he could end up very good for another team.

Memphis MadnessParticipantIf I am New York I think I take Shabazz Napier (26) and Mario Chalmers for Iman Shumpert.
Mario, Napier, and Hardaway, Jr. is a nice young 3 guard rotation.
I think Phil Jackson winds up trading the whole team.
Hopefully on draft night…
THAT would be fun to watch.
Adam Silver: The New York Knicks have made a trade.
Crowd: CHEERS

CROWD: SILENCE
Adam Silver: the KNICKS!
Bill Simmons: Whoa.

TimeForNineParticipantI know Shumpert’s value is nowhere near what is was after his rookie year, but this would be a throwback to the Isiah Thomas years in terms of terrible deals.
You’re throwing away a promising player to the four time defending Eastern Conference champs for a pick unlikely to match Shumpert’s value historically speaking. I just don’t get it.

HitsterParticipantI think that Miami would have to draft the player then trade him post draft to get around sending their 2015 pick to the Cavs. In effect they have the deal on the table and pick who Phil and the Knicks instruct them to, then they pull the trade after the draft is over.
The Lakers did this I think a few years ago.
As regards Shumpert I wonder if the Knicks want max cap space and as he comes off his rookie deal next year might not want to pay him what he would be after. A solid role player like Shump would probably be worth $15 million over 3 years as a ballpark figure.
If Phil is putting Shump into play, it is probably to see what sort of offers he might get. I wonder if Chicago might be a taker for the 19th pick as Coach Thibs would love Shump’s defensive ability.

DolanCareParticipantI actually don’t hate the idea of the Knicks trading away Shumpert. As someone who has seen every Knick game, Shump is an overrated prospect. After his ACL tear, he lost an ounce of his quickness which hindered him from guarding point guards (and it was his ability to guard 1s, 2s and some 3s that made him such a coveted player).
I’d be happy if the Knicks could get Early, McDaniels, Payne, Napier, Ennis even Bogdanovic or Hairston. I think all of those players would be better long-term prospects than Shump. That’s not a popular KNick fan opinion, but NYC admittedly has some of the densest fans unfortunately.
The main goal should be to tie Shump to Chandler, or better yet Bargs, and get a real haul of assets in return.

SmooveKRYPTParticipantI keep seeing that NY fell in love with PJ Hairston after his workout and that’s the reason they’re trying to acquire a 1st rounder. Makes very little sense to me considering he’s the same type of player as JR Smith and they just drafted Hardaway Jr. last year. NY needs a point not another scorer/shooter at the 2.

benny15ParticipantYeah but is it really far fetched to think that phill can envision pj as the point of his trinagle as a fisher/ron harper hybrid? Remember the triangle doesnt really utilize a traditional point guard.

SmooveKRYPTParticipantYeah true the triangle doesn’t use a traditional point, but if that’s the case then why not just keep Shump and let him run it?
