Lawrence Frank has emerged as the choice to become the Detroit Pistons’ next head coach and a formal contract offer is expected within the next day, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Frank, an assistant with the Boston Celtics, separated his candidacy in his first meetings with management and ownership, distancing himself from contenders Mike Woodson and Kelvin Sampson, sources said.

The Pistons organization has been deliberate in the process, talking to several candidates. But barring unforeseen snags in contract talks, Frank figures to replace John Kuester, who was fired as coach on June 5.

Crazy to think hes the same age as Spoelstra though and has already coached 7 years and sat out one. I think hes a good hire as a guy that can lead them to the playoffs in ther next 3 years.

Good hire. ‘Best of the rest’ is mostly my take on Frank joining the Pistons. Woodson and Sampson would have been poor choices IMO. And the idea of Laimbeer getting the job was laughable to me. Casey and Adelman were my fisrt choices, but neither of them made themselves available to us.

Hopefully Frank has a long run in Detroit, and puts an end the revolving door we’ve had over the last 10 year at that position.

Top 5 draft pick next season, here we come!

On the plus side, there’s depth at the big spots that the Pistons need.

Frank is a great coach and I wish him the best but its so funny to see him with the players. I went to one of the celtics practices and he was talking to ray, looked like ray had a whole foot on him. lmao
