According to Ric Bucher via twitter,Love to GS is dead and it looks like he won’t be dealt before draft.

Great news! GS did not have a good offer. They WAY overvalue Thompson, Barnes, and Green, and any offer GSW had was not a good enough return for Love. I’m still not buying that Love doesn’t get moved by at least the start of the season. I’d be willing to bet they move him to Boston or Chicago sooner rather than later, especially with Chicago needing to make the decision between Melo and Love

If it was Lee, Klay, Barnes, and a future first, for Love and KMart, then I think it was about right as far as what you give and what you get. I understand that Minny didn’t want Lee’s onerous contract, but Klay is a top 40 player, and Lee isn’t far behind. Barnes may be nothing but a rotation guy, but then again, maybe the light comes on and he blossoms. A future first from GSW isn’t worth that much as they will be a Championship contender.

Minny will be able to get a good deal somewhere.

Yes, I think Love is a better fit in Chicago than Melo, although Melo doesn’t cost them other assets like Taj and Butler. Melo is 30. Melo isn’t going to be anything close to a good value in the last two years of his next contract. At only 25, Love is already a top 8 player in the league, and hasn’t hit his ceiling yet. Love works hard and adds something to his game every offseason. Love should be an excellent player all of the way through his next contract. A team like Houston, OKC, Chicago, or maybe GS would be an instant favorite to win the Championship with the addition of Love.

I agree that the trade may not occur until after the draft, and maybe not even until the trade deadline in February.

Don’t believe ANYTHING you read as teams are posturing to put themselves in the best possible negotiating position, and to smooth ruffled feathers on their roster in case a trade does not happen.

Hopefully he doesn’t get traded at all and becomes a free agent next summer.  That way he can sign with the Lakers.

He has already said he wants to win. Why would he take a step back by going to the Lakers?

You don’t think the Lakers will be relevant again in another 1-2 years?  They have tons of cap space, are a preffered destination, and are an orginization that is willing to pay the luxury tax.  Although this upcoming year will likely be another down year, next year’s free agent pool will be deep and they will likely catch some big fish.  Under no circumstance is going from the Timberwolves to the Lakers a step back.

I think the TWolves will end up keeping Love and losing him next summer for nothing. Other teams are not willing to give up too much, because Love is going to be free agent and you don’t want to lose players and assets for a player who’s a legitimate superstar but might stay just one year. But at the same time they don’t want this to be KG 2.0. Most of the deals are being rumored are seen as unfair by pretty much every fan (not only Minnie’s) and they might well be. So it’s probably going to end up as Bill Simmons said, they will try to be good this season to convince him to stay, the same way Portland did with Aldridge.

On paper it might make sense: pretty much every advance metric said Minnie should’ve won many more games than they actually did; they actually would’ve been much better if they had not thrown away a lot of close games; their coach last year had a lot of off court issues and probably wasn’t too focused on basketball; they found out Dieng was a good player when it was too late, but he’s coming back; Budinger was probably their only shooter and was injured for half of the season and when he came back he struggled getting in shape; they have another lottery pick.

But I don’t think it will work: the West is going to be loaded again and teams like Denver and New Orleans had many injuries last year, but they are probably going to compete for a playoffs spot this season; Adelman might have had troubles, but he was an elite coach and managed to build an average defense with a roster made of many weak individual defenders and no rim protectors and at the same time to make Minnie’s offense one of the best of the league even if they had no shooters except Love and clear spacing issues, not sure Saunders could do the same, though is a competent coach; Portland had the ROY, Lillard, who was only going to be better, and a few good two way players like Wes Matthews and Batum, also they had some cap space and managed to sign two nice role players like Lopez and Mo Williams; the Timberwolves have a worse roster, even if Pekovic is a borderline starter, unless all of a sudden Rubio shows the kind of development we’ve been waiting for a couple of years, and they’re capped out, so it’s unlikely they will improve their roster via free agency; but first and foremost, it seems Kevin Love is done in Minneapolis. He’s had arguments with a few teammates, even if none of them was a key player and I think his mind is already made up.

The Timberwolves are in a very difficult position and they’re probably going to be criticized no matter what they do, but it’s hard to feel sorry for them, they wasted so many chances and lottery picks during Kahn’s tenure, Love’s contract being one of his biggest mistakes.
