TheLastWordParticipantThe beauty of this it means their epically bad next year, and can grab another elite center prospect in Okafor.

Fo Fo FoParticipantSign me up. I can stomach another cellar-dwelling season of if it means we get Embiid this year and Okafor next year. Okafor and either Noel or Embiid would be a great pairing at 4 and 5. Having both Noel and Embiid would double our chances of having one of them pan out. And either one would be a great complement to Okafor’s size and strength. Noel/Embiid can protect the rim, Okafor can bang bodies. And just imagine if two of the three developed into All-Star calibre players.
In fact, I’ve got no problem with taking still another big man in this year’s first round … well, one power forward in particular. I really like Payne and if we could package something to move back up into the first and get Payne then I’d do that in a heartbeat, even if we already picked Embiid at #3. I like Payne so much that I might even take him at #10 because I think he’s coming off the board shortly after it gets past the lottery picks. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Payne go in the tail end of the lottery.

xJumpManxParticipantI think the Sixers Interst in Embiid would be more about trading him to the Cavs for Wiggins plus more. Im not entirely sure the Cavs have given up on Embiid. In the NBA trades happen after the pick not before so draftr night could get interesting there.

TripleDoubleScoutParticipantJumpMan that’s exactly what this is. Sixers fans might not like the deal on draft night, but big picture it could pay dividends if the Cavs throw in Andy V’s expiring contract as one rumor report stated

xJumpManxParticipantI would be very suprised if they traded AV. But it could happen. Av is such a huge fan favorite in Cleveland, but he is getting older and he seems to not be able to stay healthy as of late.

TRC1991ParticipantI have Embiid going 3. His ceiling is way too high to slide because of a broken bone. Take the risk

MattP31ParticipantSpeaking as a Sixers season ticket holder, if they keep the 3rd pick and the two forwards are gone Embiid is the ONLY player that would make me happy. The similar skill set and general unknown of Exum, lack of shooting for Smart, and the lack of potential star power for the three power forwards would make last season’s tank a total waste.

3 No Biases 3ParticipantMan any of the 3 power fowards could easily be future stars…gtfo. Not one of them doesn’t have all star potential. Quit acting like this is a 3 player draft cause its not.

MattP31ParticipantNot saying they can’t be All Stars but the purpose of tanking this season was to get a franchise changing player, rebuilding from the ground up with the kind of superstar to lead a team to the Finals. Vonleh, Randle, and Gordon all have potential but question marks and none of them project as a Garnett, Malone, Duncan type to build a team around. They could end up being good #2 options but they aren’t the type of guys you gut a team for and endure a season where you field mostly an NBDL roster
0- Posted on: Sun, 06/22/2014 - 1:32pm #924424

OhCanada-ParticipantThats the risk in tanking you dont always get franchise changing talent. Thats why player development is so important. Look at the Cavs…they have enough "potential talent" on that team to "potentially" compete with anyone in the league. If that potential is not realized, selected, and organized correctly you get a team that cant even qaulify for the playoffs 4 years in the lottery with 3 1st overall selections.

Memphis MadnessParticipantIt could actually help Noel and Embiid by playing together. Limit their minutes and cut down on getting beat up inside. Twin towers with MCW at point, then go after shooters.
Nobody would fault the Sixers for taking Embiid at 3.
At 10 they can go after a wing player.

ibe12ParticipantWell I guess there are more pros than cons if they do pick him.
1. You’d be getting a player that most people thought was going 1 at 3
2. You can draft and trade him.
3. You can keep him and if he’s healthy you’ll have one of the best center prospects in years.
4. If Noel doesn’t work out you can trade him and still have a franchise big man.
5. If Embbid doesn’t work out there is always a team willing to trade for him based on his potential.0 - Posted on: Sun, 06/22/2014 - 1:23pm #924292

TripleDoubleScoutParticipantMore than a possibility Stache. This is a power play by Philly to ward off a deal with Utah. Unfortunately in the immediate short term for Philly fans Cleveland has about 90% of the leverage. There is no way Hinkie is stupid enough to actually take Embiid with TWO other potential franchise players available when they don’t have a need for him and the Cavs know it. Just take the #/#^ deal Philly you would be getting one of the 10 most gifted athletes of the last 10 years and you don’t have to give up much in the end

Makaveli_xParticipantHinkie and brown said it’s a 3-5 year plan I would take the risk for a guy who could potentially be the best prospect in this draft I really want wiggins but if we can’t get him why not take embiid we wouldn’t have to rush him back knowing Noel is heathy this year we could wait then once he’s ready see how he works with Noel and if it doesn’t we can trade one of them later on

Andrew1984ParticipantThe reason I don’t buy it is because Nerlens Noel doesn’t have the skill to play the four. He can run up and down and block shots and get put-backs, grab boards, finish some alley-oops, but he can’t face up and beat someone to the hoop. He can’t handle the ball. He can’t make perimeter shots. Sure, he’d be able to play the five while Embiid recovers, but what would the long-term plan be? It just seems redundant.
I saw this report from rotoworld.com: “One GM selecting in the top 10 was told flat-out by his medical staff to not draft the 7’0″ prospect.”
On one hand, I feel like Embiid could drop like a rock because it puts such a delay on having an impact player and most of the teams in the lottery are so desperate for impact players. But on the other hand, having to wait a year for Blake Griffin didn’t end badly for the Clippers. I know he was healthy when he was drafted, but it does give some hope that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

vulture711ParticipantA guy like Dale Davis made a career out of what you just described. With a 5 who can actually score he can just roam on D set screens on offense, roll to the bucket and hit the offensive glass. Not everyone on the team needs to be a scoring threat. Look at OKC – you have 3 guys who can score and some nights that all who scores. Same with Miami.
Ask Reggie Evans – he can’t shoot outside of 2 feet but made a career out of D and rebounding – and he’s around 6-7 not a 7 footer who can tie his shoes standing up. If Noel avergaes 3 points I’m happy if he’s grabbing 8 boards and blocking 3 shots at the 4

Andrew1984ParticipantI agree, but comparisons to Dale Davis and Reggie Evans are not exactly what you hope to secure in the top 3 of a great draft.

celtics1982ParticipantFor weeks we kept hearing that Exum was an option for the Sixer’s if Wiggins wasn’t there. I understand taking best player available, but some of you Sixer fans seem to think that after the big three there is a huge drop off in talent. That’s just not the truth. Exum, Vonleh, Smart, Randle and Gordon all have all star upside. My sleeper pick all year for the Sixers has been Vonleh. He is a perfect fit next to Noels. Also Vonlehs upside is very close to Embids. If I am the Sixers I’m taking Vonleh or Exum. By the way there were a couple of GM’s that thought these two players deserved to be in tier one along with Wiggins, Paker and Embid.
