valentineas you have seen some players dont seem to be able to trasnlate the offseason into the regular season…
though its been one or 2 games if you have watched the games ( like i have through nba leauge pass)..you can see how alot of the players moves that they did in the offseason, either against guys who arent even in the nba or against nba guys who were barely playing defefnse, arent seeming to work..and i call them like i see them.
alot of people on here dont seem to be able to handle the truth of what a player they like did in a game and even though there hasnt been alot of games pl;ayed yet we can only base what a player is doing on what they have done so far this season..does it mean they can change yea but untill that change happens we talk about the hear and now correct?..weve been doing that all summer we did that after each game in summer leauge and we did that after each game in preseaon. so why now is it different?..obviously we are still judging after each game because we come on here and give out opinion correct, if not we would wait till half the season is over then give our opinion… ive checked out some of the people who claim me or someone else is hating on there player if we give a bad assesment of how they played (when they actually played bad) and these same people were pumping up the players or jumping on there bandwagon when ever the player they liked played well after one or 2 games during the summer leauge and preseason so if it was ok to judge then, then its ok to judge now!!!….and im no different..i like mayo and think hes a future star but when he played bad i got on him just liek i got on d.jordan, greg oden…and when a player played well i aknowledge that also..b.lopez, and bynum….another funny thing is alot of peopel will give excuses why someone like lopez played well but and try to highlight what they didnt do righ but when there player played bad they highlight only what there layer did well and discount what they didnt do..case in point d.jordan…didnt look good his first game and didnt play his second. yet some made many excuses just lik last year for him and wont aknowledge the fat that hes still raw and has alot of work…thats not hating its just a fact. then when lopez played well some people said he did it against the worst front line in the nba and some of those same peopel were prasing how good ryan hollis is not to long ago..what they didnt aknowledge is that even though hollis isnt the best offensive he is pretty good on defense and just because a player is good on offense doesnt mean they are good defenders…there are a coupel of big men who can barely score but they are better defenders then amare and ant jameson…matter of fact how isnt phx consider the wrost front line defense when we all know amre plays none and frye has never been known for his defense?….another point was greg oden..its not hating to say hes raw on offense because the fact is he is..he still has work to do on his post moves and hes still pretty foul prone…lets not make the excuse of “well he gets fouls because of blake) because most of the fouls are from one on one and prizbilla doesnt seem to pick up those fouls when hes playing with blake. right now oden is a very good rebounder and a good shot blocker so lets call it like we see it..also although hayes is a good defender he is still 6’6 and oden is 7’1..and david anderson is not a lock down defender…some made excuses about bynum being good by saying well the lakers got him the ball…thats what happens when you post of well and dont turn it over when you get it or run the floor almost ever time or attack the offensive glass. lets start giving props where they are due if a player plays well enough to deserve it..reguardless if its against this or that team all those team are still in the nba with nba players…and no one is saying lopez will average what he put up or bynum will average what he did we are just saying he had a good game and its nice to know that at any given time these players can put up numbers like that…and some people say last year is last year which is tru but you can still base a players progression by how they played and what they did last year to what they are doing up to this point. ..it also should be understood why some players dont play as much as others…if you are blazing it up when you get the minutes you get then why do you think the coach should keep that player in?..if the player isnt affecting the game and not helping the team play better then what sense does it make to keep them in when they can keep in a starter or player that produces more when they are given the time?…the coaches arent in th business to give the players time just because we think they should get it, he gives the players time because they produce when they are in there in one way or another or doesnt hurt the team while they are in there….

the microwaveParticipantMareese speights?
i think some players came thru similar to how they did in preseason: I can name several more, but since i watched the Philly gm. 10-11 shooting was pretty impressive. double digits in first half so it wasnt all junk minutes either. If he wasnt matched up with dwight he may have done more on the glass, etc..
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 7:03am #224678
quincey hodgesyeah he played very well and carried it over to the regular season.some players do carry it over and some players dont..the ones that do are usually the ones that shows skills int he preseason..good foot work pump fakes etc..the ones that dont are the ones that dont show much skills out side of alley oops and wide open dunks or easy under the basket points where the opposing big men arent playing regular season hard

the microwaveParticipantquincey i read some of your stuff… whats your opinion… Sixers unleashed the entire pay roll (sarcasm) to brand… Speights has crazy upside and honetly should probably start……
A) is brand tradable with that contract and minimum gms played in last 2 yrs
B) start Speights, let brand work his way back thru the bench
C) have to start Brand cause of his pay day, speights remains 6th-7th man..0- Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 8:00am #224691

romeeezybabyParticipantI agree! You never put too much emphasis on the Summer/Preseason games! All it is basically is simply a showcase for their draft picks to get some in game action against opposing players from different teams. Sure, there will be surprises that will garner interest from NBA teams, but the success rate of them actually making it and being a star is too far in between.
Speights has always had crazy upside! He’s a lot more defined than his days at Florida, so it’s evident that he’s worked hard to get where he is today. A lot of people actually liked him a lot more as a prospect than Joakim Noah.
BTW, what’s the deal with Jason Smith? Is he still hurt? He’s another player who’s shown some promise, and has the skill set to be a solid contributor in the NBA.

The Big Ois brand tradable idts .(
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 7:33am #224687
the microwaveParticipanti dont think they can move him either, but the best player has to play… right now Speights gives them the best opportunity to win. Just hard to justify putting that contract on the bench…

quincey hodgesi say why not keep both..brand is a pf and speights is a pf that seems to be able to play center.i dont know how he would do for awhole season at center but i think they should try it IF he continues to play this way..for now have him come off the bench and start brand and dalembert and if he can out play dalembart on defense then you start him..if the team can still score with speights comming off the bench then they should continue you do that because right now brand and dalembert are the better defenders..if he consistantly out plays them offensively and esspecially defensively then i say start him..we all know what brand can do so if he is fully healed then let him continue to work his way into the system and into game shape

quincey hodgesand im not sure who gives them the best chance too win right now since they got blown away the last game but as far as whats been proven brand as of now gives them the best chance

lalailaParticipantMareesee had best PER out of ALL rookies last year in something like 3/4 of season..he just need minutes..
oh man, 2008draft class is so good 🙂0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 8:12am #224705
The Big Ospeights is a pf that seems to be able to play center
by play center u mean guard other centers? check out my forum topic Basketball 101: Defending the Low Post with excerpts from REAL NBA PLAYER jason Maxiell and REAL NBA COACH Jeff Van Gundy
It blows ur clich’e heart and hustle nonsense right out of the water lol
Speights has a bad combination of height and strength he can’t defend the low post as efficiently as a
280 lb Kendrick Perkins or an Okafor. Heavier set guys have a better CENTER OF GRAVITY.Jumping is for blocking shots
rarely will u see a player block a shot one on one unless they have a GOOD height advantage.Dwight Howard always leaves his man to block a shot if u haven’t noticed
Lebron James is alwayss blocking shots from behind on fast break etc.
Blocks don’t usually happen 1 on 1 in a halfcourt offenseI put STOCK into Seights not being able to play defense lmao
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 8:13am #224707
quincey hodgesyeah but i never really look at the per because that can be very misleading..a guys averaging 5 points a game in 4 min may look great in the per for alot of reason but it doesnt mean if given the time they would average 30 or something you know
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 8:14am #224708
The Big Ogreat player on offense tho, I like the Juwan Howard with a bit of Amar’es exxplosive Dunks
Marreese “M-16” Speights should NOT play center. TRADE BRAND!!!
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 8:14am #224709
quincey hodgesits like the plus minue thing when a player is in the game…durants is one of the worst if not the worst in the nba but miliac is probably higher..does that mean ill take millic over durant..hell naw
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 8:16am #224710
quincey hodgesalso you dont trade a player like brand because a young player played very good for one game..that woul dbe very very stupid..you consider that after seeing the young player play consistantly for the season or half the season then you consider doing that
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 8:30am #224716
The Big Othe 76ers are a MIDDLING team, good enough to make playoffs, too bad to actually win anything
and r FINANCIALLY STRAPPEDany GM with COMMON SENSE will tell u that is the worst place to be in as a franchise
if they trade Brand they have a chance to rebuild through the lottery.
and cap space for 2010 free agency the summer of Lebron and Wade.
Plus if they miss out on combo guard Wade or the versatile Lebron
they stiill have nice defensive pieces like Young and Iguodala they can afford a
defensive liability (!) BOTH financially and on the court
like Bosh or Amar’e or Nowitzki at the PF spot ALL upgrades over BrandPlus there is no telling who they can draft/trade on draft night they might score a true heavyset Center (like Okafor)
to roundout their frontcourtSpeights would dominate as the second unit scorer
who’s stupid now?

The Big OEverything I say has a reason too it, basketball is like a chess game lol
I know more about mismatches in the game than any 18yo sophomore in college
John Wall included, o wait he spent 5 years in HS lolDOMINATION
<<<<<0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 8:42am #224718
quincey hodgesyou dont trade a player because another has one good game..and if they are finacially strap they are still gonna be taking back the same salary for adifferent player who isnt gonna be as good as brand…that makes sense if speights continues to play well..he had very good games last year also but wasnt consistant..its always smart to wait and see if the player is consitant and it doesnt hurt to hold on to a ood player like brand while you find out..its win win to wait..not win win not to wait if speights shows to be just as inconsistant…understand now?..didnt say you were stupid..said its a stupid idea..why do you think teams dont do that after a player plays liek that after one game?..have you ever seen that happen?
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 8:55am #224725
The Big Oi say trade brand at the deadline for expiring contracts, either way they screwed up for signing Brand
and he WON’T get them past the 2nd round if they even make it that far, Dwight Howard demolishes Speights when he plays centerBrand is JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH, Speights has nothing to do with it except that Brand can’t play center and so Speights has to
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 8:58am #224727
the microwaveParticipantJason smith will come around. I believe that, he is fairly smooth big man, but might take 15-20 gms to see how hes recovered. Speights is nice and Big O you make a little bit of sense but not too much.. Dwight is dwight.. Name 5 centers in the lg who can stop him? Good luck my friend. Put speights on other centers he might be able to hold his own. I dont see any reason why he couldnt contain a JO, OKafor, etc… Now as far as the Shaqs, Howards of this world… Well thats another story.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 8:59am #224729
The Big OHoward and Shaq might be in the 2nd round of the playoffs
now do i make sense lol
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 9:03am #224730
The Big OI don’t believe in Brand, I used 2 but not anymore
Okafor is a good defender in the post and ur hearing mentions of ALl Star, not that he deserves it IMPO
but that’s just how tight the race is in the NBAtrade for Okafor not that the Hornets would want Brand .(
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 9:41am #224743
the microwaveParticipanthow would okafor help? okafor / Sammy D? Together, ive heard some retarded ideas but this one tops the charts.. YOu sound like your the old Gm of the knicks.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 9:44am #224746
quincey hodgesspeights main tain jo?..i dont see it..speights defense is not near his offense right now so he doesnt have the ability to really contain someone..but thats ok because no one can really contain the top big men or a good big man..as long as he doesnt let his man go crazy then he should be alright..yeah the okur trade makes no sense for each side..plus dalembert is already there
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 9:57am #224755
the microwaveParticipantwell def couldnt contain the old JO, but i doubt the one u saw last night is around for too long… IM a sixers fan but my company has season tickets to the heat down in miami here… i wouldnt mind watching some good b-ball so i hope we see another dose of the JO we saw last night.. he hasnt been anything special since Indiana…

speights is 6’10
how tall is Elton Brand smart one?Predraft Measurements
Height w/shoes
6′ 9.5″OK if i’m retarded but i’m not the one who paid Elton Brand $80 mil or whatever and he can only guard 1 position

Im Your FatherParticipanthas a absolutely huge wingspan, and at least before his injury was perfectly capable of guarding centers.

JNixonParticipantThe preseason and Summerleague are good ways to see who’s who to me. It’s not a “end-all” or anything, but it gives you an idea of what type of player you have. The ones that don’t play good in SL usually are the ones that aren’t polished enough to play right away, and the ones that do are usually more ready for game-time experience (depending on team depth).
The preseason is more for guys fighting to get clock. The established guys and featured players for teams usually don’t go full-throttle in the preseason (and sometimes for a good deal of regular season games) and only try to show off things that they were trying to improve from the season before. But don’t think they aren’t playing at a reasonably high level, where anyone can look good. Because if you suck during preseason and your young, chances are you are going to suck in the regular season.
And Speights does deserve playing time over Brand. He’s outplayed him all off-season, and even though it was only one regular season game, it was against the team that made it to the Finals and against 2 elite defenders in Bass and Dwight Howard and at times Ryan Anderson. It wasn’t like he was lighting up some scrubs. So yes, I would play him over Brand. Now it’s Brand as the weak link in the lineup, and not Dalembert. Ughhhhh, why can’t he just get 100% already?! So until he shows the Elton Brand skills we all know and love, let Speights develop and take Brand’s time.

the microwaveParticipantbrand and speights arent the starters you clown lol.. Its brand / Dalembert.. Is dalembert 6’10” or undersized… HUH SMART MAN? LOL. First off Speights success this quickly is special. NO one expected it (HENCE WHY THEY SIGNED BRAND, OK SMART ONE)……. IN hindsight obviously it was not a smart move. can u move brands contract? Im sure New orleans Needs Brand to go with 6’9″ david west… Man your intelligent how’d you come up with that great idea? YOu starting hilton armstrong over there, or you going brand / west.. Obviously that makes no sense…

The Big Oelton brands role is rebound and be efficient with the ball,
coach Jordan is telling the media outlets that he might
have to play undersized center to mesh with the team
that would move Dalembert to the bench, that’s their best chance to
win as a team. in the playoffs they might switch to a defensive lineup with dalembert and brand posting up
but right now they need to exploit their quickness0 - AuthorPosts
