llperezThe pistons just gave Rip a 3 year extension worth 11 mill per. Now they give Gordon 11 mill per. I have a hard time seeing those two players play together, Neither can play point, neither look to set up their teammates, and neither could gaurd the sf’s of the league. With the billups trade, drafting Daye, and now this, I think Dumars might be slipping as a gm.

d-grizzlyParticipantrip could possibly be traded. who knows. this is interesting though

JNixonParticipantI think they may be trying to get rid of Rip
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 1:32pm #174055

llperezPersoanlly I would take Gordon over rip. But the problem is they just gave rip that extension a couple months ago during the season to show their commitment to him. I was curious why they did that at the time. It seemed obvious that with Billups out of town, and with AI, Sheed, and McDyess all coming off the books, that they would try to rebuild. But they threw big money at a 30 year old rip hamilton, which made no sense. I’m begining to question Dumars as a gm.

gatorheelsParticipantLook the Pistons don’t have to trade Rip really. You have to have quality depth.
PG-Stuckey/Bynum
SG-Gordon/Rip/Afflalo
SF-Prince/Summmers/Jerebko/Daye
PF-Villanueva/Sharpe
C-Maxiell/KwameLooks like a real good team to me.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 1:53pm #174063

RickyRubio9ParticipantDetroit is ready to start all over, Ben Wallace is gone, Rasheed seems gone, McDyess too. Billups was traded, Amir too. Now Rip? Looks like Prince is the only one who is staying. So what will their lineup look like?
Stuckey, Gordon, Prince…and their bigs are…Kwame and Maxwell? Now, Charlie V as well. How much more money do they have to spend? What’s their roster now?
PG-Stuckey Bynum
SG- BG, Affalo
SF- Prince, Daye
PF- Charlie V, Maxwell
C-Brown..
Who else do they have?0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 1:54pm #174068

d-grizzlyParticipantthat works. but will they be able to split game time? if the pistons are any serious about stuckey, then he needs time to continue to grow. how much game time would the guards get?
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 1:55pm #174069

RickyRubio9ParticipantI just got a text saying they signed them both.
I guess, but they made Rip come off the bench last year and that was kind of messed up so they changed it back. Now he will have to go back to the bench again?
Who’s going to coach them too? I heard a rumor, but I forgot who they said.0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 1:59pm #174071

Meditated StatesParticipantI agree they both play the same positions and need shots. Maybe a sighn and trade for Rip. They have no point guard because Stuckey is not a point. That is confusing he must be slipping if Rip is not traded. He might want to put the ball in Gordons hands because Gordon can get to the rack with his quickness and strength, but still confusing he is not a point naturally at all. They said Doug Collins might be the coach or Avery Johnson.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 2:01pm #174072

gatorheelsParticipantThey want Stuckey to be their PG. They will get plenty of playing time….the problem is can Rip put his ego aside and be content coming off the bench? Regardless though if they can trade Hamilton for Tyson Chandler then Detroit should do that ASAP.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 2:02pm #174073

RickyRubio9Participantwould be huge for the Pistons and Rip could help N.O. That’s a deal that works for both. It gives Pistons some length to help out with the East Beasts like Shaq, Dwight, etc.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 2:02pm #174074
MattissickParticipantWhy do they want Villanueva more than Lee or Millsap? He plays zero defense. I guess he brings some scoring but so can the other guys. I thought Dumars was a good GM and maybe he is, but this is pretty questionable. There’s no way be plans on keeping rip with the signing of Gordon. This is interesting. Idk if I like Charlie V with the Pistons. What do you guys think about it? and 7 million a year.. that’s not a lot and that’s about right for him but why get tied up with him when there is such a good class coming in the summer of 2010?
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 2:06pm #174077

d-grizzlyParticipanti think addition of gordon and vill is pretty nice. gator hit a nail on the head with the chandler idea. if they got chandler, the lineup is instantly better than last year.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 2:11pm #174078

RickyRubio9ParticipantPistons have only Maxwell, Rip, and Prince on the books after this season. Stucky and Afflalo are Team Options, the rest are off. If the cap is around 60 something million…Gordon is 11 mill per year, Prince and Hamilton at about 12 each, Maxwell at 5, and Charlie at 7. They’ll still have about 20 million, but you’ll have to take off about 4 more million for Afflalo and Stuckey and then their Rookies, but doesn’t that leave them with about 10 million left? Not alot of depth at the end of next season. Maybe they trade Rip for an expiring Contract…I don’t know, just throwing some stuff out there as a reply to Mattissick. P.S i didn’t put much into the math part, just estimated…
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 2:13pm #174081

Meditated StatesParticipantCharlie V is a better player than those guys. I would take him over both of them. He can play D. Not saying he always does but he did it at UCONN. He is capable of playing good D to go along with being better than them both. He dropped 46 or 47 when he was a rookie.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 2:14pm #174082

llperezChandler is an improvement if he is healthy. But he rarely is and he is not worth the money he is making. I think they need to trade rip, but I’m not sure Chandler is the answer. Villanueva is good and he is not gonna be overpaid, but if I had as much free agency money as the Pistons had this year, I would’nt be happy bringing in a two guys who don’t play any defense, one of which will have to share minutes with rip and Afflalo. Im not sure what Dumars is thinking, but at least this is beter then drafting Darko.

morgatilParticipantAnyone know how this Walter Sharpe dude is doing that they are so high on?
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 2:19pm #174088
NJnetskiddParticipantI think the perfect compliment to Charlie would be Marcus Camby If they have enough cap space left so swing a trade
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 2:22pm #174093

llperezCamby would be a good fit for the Pistons, but the Clippers would probably show no interest in adding rip to their backcourt and having him compete with EGordon.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 2:27pm #174096
NJnetskiddParticipantpossibly swing a three team trade ?
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 2:44pm #174106

Knicksboy34ParticipantYou know why they didnt wait till 2010? Because Who wanna go to Detroit?
I dont think you trade Rip yet. If he is willing to come off the bench, keep him.
But if he does not, perfect trade for the Pistons is too call The Celtics and bring up that trade Boston Offered
Rondo and Allen for Rip, Prince and Stuckey.
0- Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 2:51pm #174113
MSNYParticipantthat pistons celtics trade makes alot of sense too now, especially if they think allen can play SF for a year untill one of those 3 guys they drafted develops

MSNYParticipanti definitely see a trade of rip coming here.
maybe chandler
maybe dalembert
maybe camby
maybe kaman
maybe biedrins(with the clippers and warriors roster it makes the first two more likely, but they are the clippers and warriors so who knows what they will do)
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 2:49pm #174112

d-grizzlyParticipantif rip could go for a young talented center, this team would make alot of noise in the east
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 2:51pm #174114

RickyRubio9Participantbut Grizzles actually seem like they may be taking D.Lee if they can and I doubt they’ll want Randolph…but wasn’t he brought up in trade discussions involving them?
0- Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 2:58pm #174117
MSNYParticipantyea im pretty sure randolph was brought up in a trade with them already, but i think the grizz wanted the first pick involved somehow. now that the draft is over, things might be more reasonable.
I assume the knicks arent just gonna let Dlee walk away without a sign and trade, so i dont know what the grizz could could offer the knicks, besides maybe conley and some junk(mihm and warricks expiring deals)0
- Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 2:55pm #174115

llperezthat trade looks real bad for the clips. They would like to get rid of some of their bigger contracts in order to make room for the young guys like Griffin, Gordon, and thornton. But why would they want to bring in rip, jaric, or buckner? They want to clear salary, minutes for the young guys, and get younger. This trade adds older players with long term contracts and takes minutes away from Gordon and thornton. They don’t improve as a team or help in the rebuilding process.
0- Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 3:10pm #174123
MSNYParticipanti see what you are saying with the clipps, but i think either way they are in a bad situation. I think their main goal is to make minutes for their young bigs Griffin and Jordan. They dont receive a SF so Thornton is safe. I was counting on them maybe envisioning Eric Gordon as their version of Chicago’s EX-6th man in Ben Gordon, esp since their bench scoring looks pretty weak right now. yes Rip is a longer contract, yes jaric would be a longer, yes buckner would be a longer contract, mihm would be an expiring contract, but they also need to work with what they have and make their team better either way. Plus they arent taking on longer contracts they are all 3yrs just like randolph’s. So while this trade has them taking on some bad contracts, they do make minutes for their big guys, and do look like a better team on paper. And with guys like jaric, bucker and mihm they dont have to worry about them wanting minutes since they all suck so they could be their bench warmers.

MSNYParticipantGrizzlies get:
Zach RandolphClipps get:
Rip Hamilton
Marco Jaric
Greg Bucker
Chris MihmDetroit gets:
Chris Kaman or Marcus Camby (whoever they prefer)WHY:
-Grizzlies get a PF that they need
-Clipps dump some big dudes to make way for Griffin and Jordan
-Detroit gets a big man and avoids controversy with gordon and ripPROBLEMS:
Eric Gordon goes to the bench for clipps, but that might just be a great spot for him ALA Ben Gordon in Chicago0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 3:09pm #174126

llperezthey apparently just traded Randolph to the Grizz. Camby will probably get traded around the trade deadline since he is an expiring contract. I don’t see any reasosn to get rid of Kaman because he plays center and is still pretty young and promising. The clips look set to move forward now.

0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 3:17pm #174135

RickyRubio9ParticipantTrade just went down…but not as bad contracts for the Clips. What’s their roster looking like now?
PG-B-Diddy, Mike Taylor
SG-Eric Gordon, Q-Rich?
SF-Al Thorton, Novak
PF-Griffin, Jordan
C-Camby, Kaman0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 3:36pm #174154

butidonthavemoneyI think this sucks. Charlie Villanueva is NOT worth a 5 year 40 million dollar contract.
I’ve always liked Detroit but they have lost me here. They will regret signing these two players to 5 year contracts. Weak, weak, weak.
Gordon is good but I just don’t know how he fits in….

llperezI agree with you. The pistons had as much money to spend as anyone. And getting these two probably does not send shivers down the rest of the east.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 3:47pm #174166

RickyRubio9ParticipantIsn’t Charlie V’s contract 5 years for 35 million? Rip is starting with Ben Gordon off the bench? WHAT KIND OF TEAM PAYS 11 Million for a 6th Man??? Now this moves is starting to sound a little silly to me, no possible way this turns out good for Detroit. I was thinking they could trade for a Solid Center, but now… I don’t know. Didn’t Gordon say he wanted to be a starter and with this move, who starts at the 2 for the Bulls?

gatorheelsParticipantIt seems likely that Rip will be traded eventually. I’m pretty sure Detroit paid Gordon all that $ to start. 5 years for 35mill is a good deal for Villanueva…I think Detroit was smart to sign him for that. As for who starts at SG for the Bulls…probably Salmons unless they sign a free agent (hopefully McCants)
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 3:49pm #174170

butidonthavemoneyand how is Gordon an improvement over Iverson? Or Villanueva over Sheed?
Maybe they really want John Wall…

llperezwill start Salmons at the 2 with Rose at the 1 and Deng at the 3. Hinrich will be the backup.

juves4783Participanti think they would have to start ben gordan. he’s the perfect compliment to rodney stuckey, since stuckey is 6-5 and gordon is 6-2. they can play gordon on the shorter opposing guard without having a height disadvantage with stuckey. hamilton has to be either on his way outs. he costs too much to come off the bench.

0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 3:57pm #174186

gatorheelsParticipantDetroit has a good team now but they still wont make any noise come playoff time…they have to get a solid center. If they dont get a center soon then they pretty much just wasted their money.

0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 6:11pm #174328
MattissickParticipantGordon is a huge improvement over Iverson. He isn’t a ball hog and actually makes his shots. Gordon shot 45% from the field compared to Iverson’s 41%, Gordon was 41% from threes compared to Iverson’s 28% and Gordon had 86% free throws compared to 78% from free throws. Gordon is strong and can at least play some defense and he isn’t a team killer like AI.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/01/2009 - 6:23pm #174338
NJnetskiddParticipantBoth Millsap and Lee are restricted free agents… Millsap is too much like Maxiell… and Lee has alot of suitors which may become an all out bid war. Villanueva can stretch the floor with his shooting ala Sheed, but his defense and rebounding is lacking. I personally think they would have been better off resigning Sheed bcuz he is a good defender and has the versatility to play center. Letting Sheed walk leaves the front court pretty thin in talent with either Oberto or Kwame starting at Center and Maxiell behind Charlie.
Gordon is a good pick up because he does not have to dominate the ball to get his points. He can simply play the roll he had with Chicago which is a swing guard who specializes in scoring. He could be even more effective in Detriot considering Tayshuan has great vision as a point foward allowing Gordon and RIP to both run off screen at the same time
