Of all the up and coming stars today, who has the best ISO game? meaning who can readily create shots for himself without being in "system" or assisted. Here is a list that I come up with –

    Age <= 24

    1) Derrick Rose

    2) Kevin Durant

    3) Tyreke Evans

    4) Russell Westbrook

    5) John Wall

    others:

    Eric Gordon

    Michael Beasley

    Blake Griffin

    James Harden

    Demar Derozan

    Gordon Hayward

Hmm… if we are talking isolations, I’d go with Durant, then Rose, then Tyreke, then Gordon, then Beasley as my top 5. Durant would be top simply because he can get a shot up almost effortlessly and there’s very little anyone can do about it. Rose showed he could be shut down by a longer defender in isolation situations ala Paul George and Lebron James, so he might even be lower on this list if Tyreke had a better jumper.

Not sure if Wall is there yet, wouldn’t call him an isolation scorer at this point. Blake isn’t an isolation scorer.

    1. D Rose – You can’t defend him one on one, especially now that he has such a potent in between game and improving three-point range. People give LeBron too much credit for "shutting" him down. The Heat hedged/trapped him on every screen and had a roamer or two at all times. Their goal was to cut off the "head of the snake", and they loaded up on him to do it. Unfortunately, D. Rose had nobody to relieve the pressure.

    2. Tyreke Evans – He has the hesitations and break neck moves to make you look stupid in a one on one isolation situation. He just lacks that consistent jumpshot.

    3. KD – He’s not the quickest, nor the greatest ball handler, but he has enough to drive past you and the length to shoot over you.

    4. Russell Westbrook – He’s still out of control, but he’s an improved mid-range shooter. His quickness, speed and athleticism make him tough to stay in front of in a clear out situation.

    5. Eric Gordon – He’s a very good isolation player due to his first step, strength, athleticism and shooting ability. Problem is, he’s not the greatest ball handler. And he still needs to make improvements to his in between game.

    Honorable Mention:

Michael Beasley – He’s very good at clearing out and creating his own offense.

James Harden – The Thunder are a better team with the ball in his hands. Better decision maker than Westbrook.

Surprised there’s no love for Stephen Curry. I’d prob put him at #4 after Rose, KD and Reke.

Rose still doesn’t have a great jumpshot, which puts him behind KD in my list

    From 16-23 feet 2011
    Durant shot 40%
    Derrick rose – 38%

    In 2010
    Durant – 37%
Rose – 44% (also attempted 1 more per game than Durant)

Rose has an elite jumpshot from midrange, Actually he has always had a gret jumpshot (in the nba) i think the fact that he shot poorly from 3,  along with the awkward shot mechanics, made people think he deosn’t have a great jumpshot. His 3 point shot is now coming along as well.

Those numbers can be misleading Entropy; players were giving Rose the jumper rather than give up the drive a lot of the time, when people start defending it honestly we’ll see how well he shoots it. Not trying to hate, but Durant is clearly the better shooter than Rose both in consistency and ability to get the shot off under pressure.

Durant is clearly the better shooter than Rose both in consistency and ability to get the shot off under pressure.

That’s very arguable. Rose had to consistently bail Chicago out of late shot clock situations all season and he made a ton of difficult mid-range/in between shots… So many that it became the norm to see. Unlike Durant, Rose doesn’t have another player who can create his own offense and relieve some of the pressure.

I think Rose’s mid-range jumpshot is just as consistent as Durant’s. Rose probably has an even better mid-range game overall due to the fact he has a consistent jumpshot and an assortment of moves in that area. That’s Rose’s "RED" zone.

Idk if any of u guys know about this site or not, but mysynergysports.com is amazing for stats. You can search a player and see pretty much anything you need to know. For example, Rose was ISO’d 18.7% of the times last year and was 180 for 391 (46%) on his FG attempts out of the ISO. Incredible site, thanks to Mark Cuban.

@apb540 I think he has the potential to be an ISO guy in the future. He is not one now, but I think he has that ability and mindset to be a good one.
