RUDEBOY_ParticipantGasol looked so overweight and slow..When i 1st saw him..
I thought he’ll be 1 of those foreign players that would come off the end of the bench.. Play about 7 or 10 minutes a game..I thought he’ll be in the league for 2 or 3 years then spend the rest of his career playing overseas..
I can remember being in Memphis the day Pau Gasol was traded from the Grizzlies..Local Sports Host Chris Vernon who had Dogged Pau for years for being what he called too soft…Went on & on about how Sad & Pathetic it was to be traded for your younger brother..Everyone in the Media talked at the time how 1-sided that traded was..But Marc’s aggressive inside play has made him a fan favorite..There are not many true post centers in today’s game..Some say he’s in the top 10 among the league’s centers..While he’s not as talented as Pau ..Marc does the things that you want from your big man..He has a high basketball IQ & good hands..Can be physical at times..Gasol set a Memphis record for Field Goals by a Rookie with 53%..Made 2nd Team All Rookie Team..
Marc Gasol needs to continue to work on his conditioning..He will be a free agent at the end of the 2010-2011 season and you can bet teams will be looking to sign with him..0 - Posted on: Tue, 09/07/2010 - 9:26am #396313

mikeyvthedonParticipantHe has far exceeded my expectations. It is hard not be impressed by the guy, he has lived up to his and much more. Very solid center, imposing and he is not just a fraction of his brother that weighed more, like I initially thought. He definitely has game, will be a big reason for the Grizzlies continued quest for success. Smart player and very hard to stop, and has similar vision to Pau. He does not have the same post-up or perimeter game, but he is definitely up near the top of the leagues centers. Will be something the USA definitely has to worry about if they go up against Spain again.

sammybuckeye13ParticipantMy list based on their position listed by ESPN.
1. Dwight Howard
2. Tim Duncan
3. Brook Lopez
4. Al Jefferson
5. Andrew Bogut
6. Chris Kaman
7. Joakim Noah
8. Al Horford
9. Marc Gasol
10. Andrew BynumIn 4 years:
1. Dwight Howard
2. Brook Lopez
3. DeMarcus Cousins
4. Greg Oden
5. Andrew Bynum
6. Marc Gasol
7. Al Jefferson
8. Andrew Bogut
9. Joakim Noah
10. Al HorfordI feel strongly about Al Horford being overrated. He’s a very good player but he should NOT have been an All-Star; 14.4-9.9-1.1 are not All-Star nor elite center numbers. There are plenty of more well-rounded centers. I also think Chris Kaman doesn’t get enough notice; he’s a scoring center, yes, but also averaged just as many rebounds and more blocks than Horford, so at this point I think he has to be ranked higher.

ghettosermonParticipantSo which center should have made the allstar team instead of Horford? Keeping in mind Noah was out with injury.

HitsterParticipantNo-one would have guessed that Marc Gasol would have been so good otherwise he’d have been a first round pick at best, even with a high profile brother who was already an NBA star the Lakers perhaps took him as a stasher and when they traded to get Pau Gasol perhaps Pau suggested to Jerry West to ask for him as part of the trade.
Marc will surely have loads of FA interest and Memphis have to balance this with resigning Z-Bo, Conley, Mayo etc who are all available to be renewed now or next summer. I’d say Marc could command a deal getting towards $10 million a year so Memphis have to consider this carefully against other team needs. They do of course have Thabeet developing from the bench who has the potential to be a huge defensive force but whether he and Gasol could play on court together remains to be seen.

OhCanada-ParticipantMarc Gasol is a Championship C just like Pau Gasol is a Championship PF. He is not an Unrestricted FA, he is a Restricted FA and with the money Wallace spent on Gay and the new collective barganing agreement, a team that overpays him may just be able to snatch him.
I know this is a biast remark and I DONT CARE! I think the Raptors would be wise to start trying to be a bidder in the Marc Gasol sweepstakes. I mean we are the top international team in the NBA, we have an obvious vacancy at C, no 1st option, no dominant rebounder, a Top 5 Draft Pick, and a handful of young talent. I doubt it works but its better then keeping around Calderon!

McDunkinIn my opinion, In his younger days, if he would have stayed in America instead of going pro in Spain i think he would have turned out to be a bust

omphalosParticipantI actually like Gasol to Toronto. They have a number of nice pieces north of the border in DeRozan and Bargnani, but they are very, very weak at the C position.
Having overpaid for Gay expect Thabeet to be played a lot more to prepare for the likely event that Gasol bolts from Memphis.

VMAN25ParticipantAs someone mentioned about Marc Gasols High Basketball IQ, his Passing is very impressive for a Center. Memphis offense is its best when the offense goes through Marc. Now as a Memphis fan, i have to say at first i didn’t think he would be this good but i didn’t think that trade was lopsided. The Lakers did win Championships with Pau , but Memphis has one of the best young core in the league IMO. They should sign Marc next off season!!! you don’t find True Centers like him that are tough, physical and have high basketball IQ. I mean they did draft Thabeet and his still very very RAW…

stanford hoopsWhy is jortford out of position? Because we think he’s better as a pf? He plays good defense on centers. He helped lead his team
to the playoffs. He scored and he was a allstar. So what makes him out of position. His height? We all know that doesn’t matter since he produces. I’d like to see him
at pf but not at the cost of putting some average center there in his place0 - Posted on: Wed, 09/08/2010 - 6:22am #396705
