Im thinking about all the different factors that make a rookie successful. Player development program, internal will/fire, Team organization, team direction, coach, coaching style, team system, mentors on team, responsibility early-on or later, minutes played as a rookie, time given to learn and play thru mistakes, good team GM adept at putting the right players together, player expectations, strive to get better, gym-rat, etc….

So many factors… But which Players will be just fine wherever they go because they have that internal fire to be great or their skills are just to good to not be productive and their basketball IQ is tremendous. These are players that dont need alot of work and arent drafted MOSTLY because they have "huge upside". They should be good wherever they go and are the safests bests.

Darko Milicic, Derek Carr, Blaine Gabbert, Jimmer Fredette, Chris Herren, Drazen Petrovic, and a whole other laundry list of athletes who were put into situations that were set up for them to fail. These guys are the elite of the elite to be considered for the NBA; they are all good. The scouts aren’t wrong although they may highlight the wrong things at times. 9 times out of 10 it comes down to their opportunity.

The other major factor does come down to work ethic, but opportunity is the biggest thing that dictates success at the professional level. Danny Green had been cut by Cleveland, and Pop gave him a second (and final) chance, which would have been his last chance in the NBA most likely. Without that third chance, (second with the Spurs) he would be playing in the Euroleague right now. Do you know how many players in the Euroleague could’ve been a Danny Green type player if they were given the same opportunity as him? And this is a guy who legitimately had a shot to be a finals MVP before all hell broke loose in game 6 in 2013. This is why location is important.

The only one I see that can make an impact anywhere and not be destroyed by GMs, coaches, or staff would be Early. He is mature and has a great game that he is practically a plug-and-play player on every team in the NBA. I compared him to Chandler Parsons, and I am sticking with him. Being picked by a playoff team towards the end of the 1st helps too.
