People scoffed when I named Kevin Garnett and Yao Mingwitzki as Porzingis’ player comparisons, but Kris already plays as well as post-prime KG, 2012 version.

KP-Robing Lopez might be the best defensive big duo in the NBA.

Porzingis is noticeably stronger than he was during summer league.

He’s go the total package. This is exactly how Yao looked as a rookie, just an obvious legend in the making.

He’s showing off his 3pt stroke early.  Hit 2/3 so far this game.

Also, he has the most playing time of all the Knicks.  Good to see them really giving him the best shot to succeed.

I think you’re underestimating how good of a passer KG was/is even post-prime 2012 era. As well as how strong of a communicator and defensive anchor he was. I too have sky high expectations for Porzingis, but lets not start saying he is already a defensive anchor and dynamite passer like KG was, even in 2012.

Seven foot three brah. A perch like no other to shoot, pass, and decide what to do. Unguardable within three years.

And probably as good a defender as Gobert. Amazing agility tonight defending a pg at the 3 pt line.

And he might have the longest arms in nba history or something. I’m not even sure we have a measurement yet.

Yeah I’m not denying the skillset, the dudes a freak of nature physically and skill wise, still don’t know why the Porzingis #1 pick train didnt get rolling. My point is more so that KG was/is so good because he makes everyone around him better with his IQ and his vocal communication making sure everyone knows where they need to be- thats what made him so great even in 2012 not his skillset, and whilst I think Porzingis could certainly possess the skills KG did at that stage, I don’t think he will have as greater impact as KG did because he doesn’t have the same experience, the IQ, that ability to make everyone else around him better on defense through his voice.

You’re remembering post-prime KG, when his voice was his last major weapon.

You can’t be too picky about comparing 7 ft+ rim protectors with awesome long jump shots and high i.q.’s and high mobility. There’s only so many 7 footers, and ony a few legends. These two even have the same build.

No, KG’s voice wasn’t his best weapon. He was physically and athletically dominant. Too long, quick, and skilled. Porzingis is even longer, can be even better defensively because of his length, and while he’s not as athletic as KG was, he’s still extremely athletic for somebody over 7’1".

Skillwise, Porzingis already has a better 3 point shot than KG ever had, and he can shoot it off the catch or off the dribble just as effortlessly.

Only a hall of famer could garner a Porzingis comparison.

Probably more potential than Anthony Davis. Could be better than KG.

“Probably more potential than Anthony Davis”?? The league is LeBron’s now, Durant’s next, and Anthony Davis is right after him if not before him. Hell arguably the second best player in the world, and former MVP, said that he was “Next in line” and you said Porzingis has more potential??? What will he be the best player ever wtf??? Lol.

A stretch 4 who can knock down jump shots AND block shots is quite rare and valuable.

A stretch 5 who can knock down 3 point jump shots and defend centers/block shots is so valuable it’s hard to qualify, and basic stats can’t come close to capturing the impact on the game/winning.

vs a Brazilian club team is living up to HOF expectations? Wow, imagine the hype if he had scored 10 points!

He could be the 2nd best player ever, after Marcus Smart of course.

Sigh.  I like Porzingis a lot.  I think he will be great and should get major minutes.  I strongly doubt he will ever be the best player in the league, but, hey, here’s to hope.

Porzingis could be the most valuable player in the league just by averaging 17, 8, 3 assists, and 2 blocks.

Dragging opposing rim protectors out to the 3 point line and beyond has EXTREMELY HIGH VALUE.

Carmelo won’t have to worry about help defense nearly as much, and will be able to post up opposing SFs all day long. And guards like Jerian Grant will be able to score at the rim much more easily.

Just wait until the Knicks finish building around Porzingis.

If they can find an Isaiah Thomas type waterbug point guard, the Knicks will see the same magic that Kelly Olynyk creates for Isaiah, and the Knicks offense will be elite, like the Celtics whenever KOlynyk and IT4 are in the game.

You guys looking in the box scores to measure the impact of a stretch center better keep your eye on the final score, and take the stretch center’s personal simple stats with a grain of salt.

Their impact goes far beyond points and rebounds.

And Porzingis is absolutely in the defensive mold of Rudy Gobert.

Of course you guys completely slept on Gobert too, until ESPN told you he was a great defender, then you loved him.

Porzingis could average those numbers this year easily, but I think you’re wrong that he’d win MVP with those numbers. Probably just MVP candidate, and probably not this year because his defense is still under-appreciated.

Not trying to pick a fight, I just don’t think you were exactly right about Porzingis before his rookie year even started.

It should have been obvious in early October, as soon as the pre-season started.

You didn’t even know you were staring at a hall of famer.

4th highest jersey sales in the NBA. Who could have predicted that?

Even better game tonight, and looking like the Rudy Gobert clone he is defensively.

Offensively, he might be even better. Just in this one game you can see a lot of different aspects of his skillset. Point center skills, HOF potential, outside shot at GOAT

He’s going to put up Anthony Davis style stats, minus the high scoring at first, perhaps.

single game statlines sometimes like: 16 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks, 1 steal, 2-5 from 3.

Rookie season averages I’ll predict: 15.5 ppg, 9.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.5 blocks, 1.2 steals per game.

    35% from 3.

With a crazy high +/- he won’t get nearly enough credit for.

Melo just came down right on Porzingis’ head, now he’s got a neck injury.

    F’ing Melo.

Porzingis looks like he’s close to becoming NYK’s most valuable player. He’s exciting to watch defensively as Gobert or Noel, and just as good, already.

Top 50 player right now, and rising fast.

its always impressive to see a big with such a high bb iq and quickness, but c’mon hof? 5 games into the season?

He has not disappointed at all yet, and so i’m not going to make up some b.s. to say he won’t be a dominant force going forward, but i think its a bit premature to say anything with hof in the sentence until he takes over a game or even a 1/2 and his team wins because of it…and does this on a regular basis.

Ian Begley @IanBegley Didn’t expect to see this: Kristaps Porzingis is holding opponents to 38% shooting, 6.8% less than expected, per http://NBA.com .

Ian Begley @IanBegley Also, didn’t expect this: the Knicks have allowed 95.2 points per 100 possessions with Porzingis on the floor & 104.6 when he’s on the bench
