XYRYXParticipantI just read on NBA.com that Jerry Colangelo to continue to 2020 As USA Men’s National Team Managing Director, Mike Krzyzewski To Serve 2017-20 In Special Advisory Role.
I absolutely think this is the best thing that could have happend to Team USA since he knows international basketball as good as anyone and for sure will continue to lead them to many more wins and titles. What this means for his role with the Spurs is still up in the air to me and might mean he is going to quit on that role as I reall don’t see him going for a full time job with both organisations. We’ll see but a fantastic move by Colangelo to me!

canadabasketballisrisingParticipantGreat Move for Sure. I hope they hire 2 young assistants to take over in the distant future like: Kerr (offense), Stevens, Kidd (maybe); with Thibs for defense; and 1 experienced assistant like Carsisle.

Nothing FancyParticipantIt will be heartwarming to see Mr. Popovich shake hands with the Tony Parker and Tiago Splitter after a hard-fought match. Good luck to all athletes and coaches involved in the Olympics and FIBA World Cup, two events that inspire harmony and unity.

HitsterParticipantI wonder if Gregg will be able to choose his assistants or if Jerry Colangelo and Mike K may have some input, Mike Budenholzer could be a decent call for an assistant role if he wants it,
With Gregg not taking up the role for another two years, he can probably appoinrt a young back up staff knowing they can gain experience and looking toward the future.
Gregg is certainly not looking to finish any time soon or move upstairs as he assured LMA he intends to stay as Spurs Head Coach for the duration of LMA’s deal and the Team USA job ties Gregg in until 2020.

HitsterParticipantGregg is 66 years old now, he’ll be 71 come 2020 Olympics. Age doesn’t matter so much for a part time Team USA job but factor that into a full NBA Coaching job then it is a bit of a stretch for someone of Gregg’s age. But I figure that he must feel condfident that he can do it overwise I don’t think he’d take it on.
It will interesting to see if he uses NBA guys as his assistants or college guys. Also do you perhaps consider actual current assistants rather than Head Coaches for the Team USA assistant role. Say they want a specialst big man or defensive coach etc.
Personally I’d take a mix guys like Kevin Ollie, Mike Bud, Tom Thibs etc.

Robb_CParticipantPersonally in my opinion, Pop has the personality to coach well in his late 70s.. Guys like Thibs are a stroke waiting to happen at that age..

bimirudParticipantThey’re currently on a 63-game winning streak and they do THIS? I think the real Dream Team for USA Basketball across the decades has been the coaches. Dean Smith, Chuck Daly, Mike Krzyzewski, Jim Boeheim, Larry Brown and now Pop. Scary if you’re trying to beat them …
