OhCanada-ParticipantHairstons offensive abillity is phenomanal. Ive seen that guy flat out get buckets. I wanna see how he performs next year and how effienciently he can produce in consistant 30-minute games.

Anton123ParticipantI think next year will really show us what both of these players are about, Hairston right now pretty much only shoots threes, but he is very strong and very athletic, so I think he can do much more than just that, maybe work on a little of a post-game, he could overpower almost any guard.
Bullock is more of a traditional SG, he has a good shooting stroke, is pretty quick, pretty long, pretty athletic.
I honestly don’t know, I say we just wait and see

surveParticipantfrom a UNC loyalist perspective…..as a prospect its early. If the draft were tomorrow, of course its Bullock. He is taller, more athletic, a better defender, and right now a better rebounder. Bullock is also much better in the open court.
if we are talking moving forward and upside, its not that clear-cut.
Hairston, although he is in a bad slump since his wrist injury….is a much deadlier shooter in my opinion with NBA range right now. He is stronger and could develop into a great rebounder as well. He is a craftier scorer and probably better ball skills (dribbling and passing) potentially. He can get his shot easier than Bullock right now as well. Bullock right now is more of a bigger version of Wayne Ellington, but has to learn how to put the ball on the floor and get his shot like Ellington was able to do in his final year.
Where PJ would have the edge as a prospect is if he becomes a post up guard with mid-range game. His body is incredible. We are talking 6’5"-6′-6" 225lbs.

surveParticipantyeah, its too early to tell, they both will be great prospects. both have uniqueness about them. its all how they develop, if Bullock can really learn how to move without the ball, he is a player in the Rip Hamilton mold.
Hairston is a can be a power guard with NBA range and beyond. Kinda like a better shooting Nick Anderson.

UNCbasketballbumParticipantReggie Bullock is extremely quick for a 6’7′ guard. He is a really good defender and a good shooter. He needs to work on his ball-handling, but he doesn’t need that aspect of his game yet on the 2012 Heels since Marshall controls the ball all the time. He is a great rebounder as well. Hairston hasn’t gotten much run this year since he’s been in his shooting slump. She showed surprising athleticism on his put back dunk last night. It’s hard to tell now since Hairston hasn’t gotten consistent minutes. I think we’ll know better after next year what Hairston’s ceiling will be, but for now, I’ll go with Bullock.

mikeyvthedonParticipantIs the better prospect. His strength and athleticism is top notch, think he can score in many more ways than Bullock. However, I think Bullock is playing his role really well and it is the right move to start him. He is a better defender and Hairston is better as a scorer off of the bench at this point.
Next season, I think you will probably see Hairston and Bullock playing together a lot. Should work really well, they both can play either wing position in college. Still, I like Hairston more as an offensive option and that his strength makes him very intriguing as a 2 at the next level. Both certainly have mid first round or lottery potential down the line, but I think PJ Hairston is more intriguing to me.
Remember, Reggie struggled last year as well before he got injured. They will bring back Leslie McDonald and Dexter Strickland, but I feel much like Bullock this year, Hairston will be too good to keep off the court. PJ’s percentages look pretty grisly, but I feel this guy will pick it up next year and has been hampered by injuries. I think with another year, his production will increase greatly. The numbers may put things in Bullock’s favor right now, but I am going to go with Hairston who I feel has the more complete offensive repertoire.

OnionsParticipantI say this as someone who watches all UNC games and has a crazy man crush on Bullock.
I think PJ’s upside is much higher. He’s a better athlete, he has a really unique body (thick and strong, but remains athletic), and Roy said it himself, PJ is the best shooter he’s ever recruited. Stats are bad, but look up until the UK game where he got injured in. He was shooting about 37% from 3 which is not bad for a freshman. He also really found a way to get to the line in limited minutes while almost shooting 90% from there. Since that game he’s fallen off a cliff. He still shows glimspes of amazing potential and some nasty dunks. He also rebounds very well for a shooting guard. I love how aggresive he is with the way he approaches the game. You can tell he was born to score. I think he’s a potential 50/40/90 if he works on his shot selection.
I do question if he can handle the ball and we will see what happens when he gets healthy again. He also was a terrible defensive player early in the year. I mean just awful. He’s gotten better and he even did a good job on Rivers yesterday.
Reggie has perfect NBA size for a 2 guard. Legit 6-7 with I’m guessing a decent wingspan. He also has exceptionally quick feet on defense paired with his natural height and length. He rarely makes mistakes because his basketball IQ is off the charts. He’s one of the best rebounding 2 guards I have seen at UNC in forever. He gets after it on the offensive glass and has a natural instinct of knowing where the ball will end up. It’s funny because he came in with the reputation as a scorer and he’s become a borderline lockdown defensive player over the course of a healthy season.
Like PJ, his handle isn’t great. He can handle on the periemter, but I wouldn’t trust him driving right now. He never gets to the free throw line, although I believe a large of that is because he knows his role on this year’s squad — which is out on the perimter and defense. I think he’s sort of unselfish to a fault. Even in games where he is unconscious, he will still ALWAYS make the extra pass and work for good shots. Which is a good thing, but that also makes me think he might not have the "takeover" mode you want in a scorer. He also rushes when he shoots. He needs to learn to set his damn feet before he shoots the ball. Same goes with PJ. Not much of a mid game right now.
So yeah, that’s what I have seen this year.

Mr. 19134ParticipantPJ Hairston.

Mr. 19134ParticipantWTF is that about? Somebody asked a question and I answered it and get negged crazy for it.
Hairston is better prospect because he’s going to be a better shooter, he plays smarter, he knows how to get to the foul line, and he’s strong enough to finish through contact. I was a big Bullock fan last year but his game hasn’t really gotten any better in his soph year which is a huge red flag.
Bullock was 13-23 from the foul line as a freshman for 57%, and this year he’s 10-12. Combined that’s 23-35 in his 2 years at UNC. That’s absolutely atrocious for an athletic wing player.
Hairston is 44-51 already for 86%. And I’m willing to bet that Hairston has a much better sophomore season then Bullocks is having right now.
