If I was a Pistons fan I’d prefer them to go after Iguodala in free agency instead of giving up picks and prospects for Gay.

  i agree, while they get a scorer, they still need a premier defender on the perimeter.
  i could see them offering something like stuckey and maybe singler for him. or maybe calderon back to Toronto in a sign and trade.

Rudy gay would be a great edition to the pistons, and would be an better than Iguodala (in age and money wise) He is a legit SF who knows how to score and we would finally have a go-to guy in the fourth quarter. He has two years, around 37 million left in his contract. What do you think the pistons would be able to offer?

If they have up pik and contracts why not? Makes them a legit team. All they would need is time to progress together.

Josh Smith and Rudy Gay? Are the Pistons trying to sign inefficient players? This is why I would want an analytic GM running my team; to ensure these moves don’t happen. Right now if you’re the Pistons GM, you have to realize that you have a team that is going to be run from the inside out. Signing selfish inefficient players isn’t going to allow that to work. They need shooters, and great PG play.
For those people out there who follow Detroit more than myself, is there a growing inclination that Monroe won’t sign when his contract is up? Rudy and Smith both played as stretch 4’s last year, so I wonder if this is just growing anxiety from the Pistons management.

  I have been reading tons of posts on many different websites and people do not have a clue about how the nba works. Monroe will be a restricted FA after next season. That means Detroit can match any offer. Wow people are dumb.

    I’m dumb? We’re discussing the possibilities of the Pistons signing a near-max-level player, and it’s common knowledge that Drummond is more than likely going to get paid as well. Last time I check it’s near impossible to have 3 max level players on one team… Try paying attention to the nba more and you might have saw what happened with OKC this past summer. You know, when they couldn’t sign that third near max player…Someones got to go, and in this hypothetical situation it would be Monroe (and the recent Rondo for Monroe rumors add to this theory).
    It’s also rude to call someone dumb when they blatantly added an anecdote stating “For those people out there who follow Detroit more than myself”. Obviously I don’t follow the Pistons, and had no clue about Monroe’s contract stipulations. No need to be insulting.

If I am the Raps i am hoping and praying that the Pistons throw draft picks or an expiring contract our way in order to make up for another one of Colangelos last ditch efforts to make the playoffs only to probably get demolished first round.

  Once again no one has a clue. The pistons cannot trade until 2017 right now. They owe a 1st rounder to Charlotte. Which is top 8 protected next year and top one protected in 2015. So according to NBA rules you cannot trade consecutive 1st rounders. So if you want a 2017 1st round pick for gay go ahead.

Its not like Joe called up and said “hey Masai, I’ll give you Monroe, CV, and a trade exception for Rudy”. If this deal happens its strictly a cap dump. Kravtsov, Jerebko, and Villanueva would eqaul $14.5-mil, add a three mil trade exception and some picks and it looks like a good deal to me. Detroit trade their 2014 1st round pick top 8 protected, but I think a 2014 2nd and 2016 1st with Kravtsov, Jerebko, and CV would be fair. That would bring Detroit’s cap to 37 mil with room to sign any free agent on the market while giving up none of thier main rotation players. Toronto gets financial flexibility for 2015 and an opportunity to rebuild correctly.

i’d take that from the pistons stand point. i know gay isn’t the most efficient player, but i think he fits better than joe D’s flirtation with josh smith. they keep the young core of drummond, monroe, knight to go along with KCP. this would probably take them out of the running for rondo, though. the pistons problem here is that they were quite ecstatic when knight fell to them a few years back, but they’ve discovered he’s not a PG. even so, maybe a year under a former PG in mo cheeks can help him move forward his skills as a floor general. still don’t trust joe D’s decision making (i.e. darko draft, trading billups & using AI’s expiring contract to sign charlie V and ben gordon, extending tayshaun, rip, & stuckey, etc.), but out of almost all of the pistons news i’ve heard lately, this is probably the best case scenario

I actually thought Gay was doing alright in Toronto and the Raps could be looking at an 8th seed this year. Why would they trade for Gay, then to move on without him.
Charlie V a big who plays no defence and loves to shoot from deep: sound familiar ? didn’t they just get rid of Bargs.
Anyway since the pistons prob won’t have a first rounder next year I like Joe D being aggressive and pursuing FA and trades – looks like he is def shooting for the playoffs this year 🙂
