He’s on a nice little run now filling in for the injured Brandon Knight.. averaging 23pts, 4assists, 1.7threes, 49% from the field since being inserted into the starting 5.

He’s a little awkward with the ball before he makes his drive, but once he gets a head of steam he can finish pretty well. I also saw him use his left and right hand while attacking the basket within the half court, which surprised me.

Again, his handle needs work.. but I like what I like what I’ve seen in terms of his aggression and athletic ability in different facets on offense.

I have liked Phoenix since the Kevin Johnson & Barkley days… but fully admit that I don’t see them play regularly. For those who do, could Goodwin be a future starter? Or is this more of a Tony Wroten (good stats, bad efficiency, bad W/L record) situation that could lead to some false confidence? Personally I like all of the Sun’s young talent quite a bit

I could see Phoenix making big turnaround next season. Injuries have hit them hard and they handled Morris situation terribly causing him to play below his very affordable contract. Booker is legit and gives them ability to trade either Bledsoe or Knight who are both under team friendly contracts. I’d get Goodwin as many minutes to develop and learn from mistakes this season and hope he can contribute solid minutes next year backing up the PG & SG spots. Playing youth should ensure a top 5 pick and coupled with what they can get for Morris & Knight/Bledsoe. All 3 are on long term/ team friendly deals but I’m not sure their are enough minutes to go around.

AG is a perfect example of drafting on potential.  At Kentucky he relied on his quick first step to blow by defenders and slash to the basket.  He really didn’t shoot it that well, and his PG skills were non-existent.  He did however have great speed, very good athleticisms, and was known for his work ethic.  All reports out of Phoenix are that he is a gym rat and brings it to every practice.  Now, after biding his time on the bench and bouncing in and out of the DLeague, his opportunity is here.  He was 4th on the guard depth chart, arguable 5th after Booker and now he is playing with a lot of confidence and is finally converting his potential into minutes and points.  2 games ago he hit a winning 3 against ATL, and last night he scored 20 points in one quarter for a line of 26 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds.  Granted that was against the 76ers but still.  I am really interested if he can maintain this level of production.  He has looked really good the last few games, and I suspect that now with his confidence up, he is going to continue his roll.

What does that mean for Phoenix?  It means they may finally have a quality backup PG who can play SG, and contribute on both ends of the floor that they don’t have to trade for or overpay for in the FA market.

From what I’ve seen from Goodwin it’s putting together all his skills. He has a good shot, the midrange game is there, he can pass but everything he does seems telegraphed. If he decides to drive he’s likely not passing when someone helps. Or if he decides to shoot he will Jack up a bad shot with a wide open lane to drive through. He needs to have more flow to his game while making decisions and take what defences give him not force plays because as team’s start scouting him he will become easy to defend if he doesn’t.

OhCanada – I cannot disagree more with your post.  It seems like you are talking about the AG at UK, or the first year or so at Phoenix.  You obviously have not seen him play lately.  He does not telegraph anything, he moves well away from the ball,  plays sticky defense, and his PG decision-making is much better than I have ever seen.  He does not "jack up a bad shot with a wide open lane to drive through".  Seriously???

Your other comments about his decision-making, and his game flow are wayyyy off too.  You really need to watch this kid play before you make these generalizations.  The funny thing is that you say he has a "good shot", and that is probably the weakest part of his game.  Basically all of your comments are completely wrong!  lol.  Oh Canada!

I didn’t say he was a great or even good PG at this point.  I said that his PG skills are better than they have ever been before.  The point is that he improving in that regard.
