What are some things that upset you or are misunderstood etc. A couple things have been on my mind most of what upsets me is how contact/physicality/grit or lack there of is interpreted in today’s game.

I cant understand how size is still such a big deal in the NBA when physicality is being shunned. Length I can understand to a degree but it still is trumped by will 100% of the time. If you can have cornerbacks and safetys 6-feet and under in the NFL guarding receivers that are 6’3 and strong or running backs that are 5’9 running into defensive lines of monsters it can work in the NBA as well. Although their is contact in this league facts are about 50% of the time there is contact on the ball a foul is called or a flop happens just like soccer which is also upsetting In reality size doesn’t matter, all that matters is you help your team win.

The hate for Grayson Allen is way too much. I don’t even mind if he trips people I would rather see him trip somebody than see him dive. People say its shameful to trip somebody but don’t mind watching every pro player flop. When I grew up playing basketball it was rough. I think too many people learned to play in acdemy’s and schools nobody has even played a good old fashioned outdoor basketball game on rugged concrete where you will likely be scraped up and bruised at the end of the game. Teams need more Tony Allen, Justin Anderson, Matthew Dellevadova loose cannon type pests on their it adds a different element to the team. I’ll probally get killed for saying that but I bet their are pro scouts that would agree. At least we know he is emotionally invested in the game and will stay competitive. In reality who would you rather have on your team the dude that’s out their tripping people or the guy that’s getting tripped up and diving all over the floor.

I hate the whole pump fake then dive into someone to get the foul call. It’s never a natural shooting motion but 9 out of 10 times they get the call.

Twitter can singlehandedly ruin players for me. If it wasn’t for awful fans on there I wouldn’t hate Golden State as much (still would, but not to the intensity it’s at today lol). I love Kyrie’s game but the fact that he hits big shots makes every casual fan think he’s better than he is (like, he got double the All Star votes guys like Wall and Lowry got). Chauncey even said he was the 2nd best player in the East and was shocked that Jalen Rose disagreed. Fan opinions are just so broadcasted now

Refs giving double techs because they don’t want to only give it to the guy that started an altercation has been cut down but still happens occasionally and is awful

Your first one is much more about punishing an undisciplined perimeter defender for leaving his feet than rewarding an offensive player for leaning into an opponent.

A good, hard closeout is under control and does not require leaving the ground. Actually, the defense is probably fortunate to give up a couple FTAs, as opposed to the dunk or wide open 3 that typically result from playing 4-on-5, which is what happens when you bite on a shot fake.

I hate seeing every big man trying to develop a 3 point shot. It angers me seeing boogie, horford and others standing on the 3 point line chucking up 3’s. Boogie is a little different because he does absolutely everything for his team but horford is painful to watch, he was so much more useful in Atlanta drawing double teams and hitting his 3 point shooters

So true. Horford basically think he’s a combo guard now… totally removed any post up game…
He’s perimeter orientation also results in putrid rebounding… The Celtics is one of the worst rebounding teams, 6’2 Avery Bradley is their leading rebounder with 6… That’s inexcusable for a max contract bigman

Absolutely! I knew I was forgetting one. I’m fine with Embiid and Cousins doing it because they both have a great post game and them being able to shoot only helps them, but I don’t like a lot of these guys trying to force themselves into being sharpshooters. Like, since when has Marc Gasol spent anytime outside the 3 point line before this year? I’m not one of those guys that hates change for the sake of it being change, but I just don’t like how everyone wants to be a guard nowadays. I’m praying Deandre Ayton doesn’t turn into Channing Frye because he wants to be on the perimeter and becomes David Robinson instead

I can’t understand why more teams aren’t playing like Utah. Even Memphis has Gasol on the perimeter but that’s kind of different as I think they are more concerned with prolonging his career and keeping him from getting banged up. I forget what year it was but it just seems like the league is trending one way and replicating that infamous Suns/Spurs layoff series where Popaviich decided to start his run and gun approach to match Dantoni. Almost every team plays that way with some exceptions.

If Deandre Jordan and Rudy Gobert start shooting 3s, all hope will be lost

I hate the fictional "3 and D" thing… Literally average players who can’t do anything well still getting 16 M/y contracts…
Low basketball IQ athletes with little to no skills labelled as high upside prospects

How whiny and self entitled the league has started to become.. Players complaining about how they cant smoke weed and how LeBron crys about not having talent when he has the highest payroll.. Self-Entitled players who take the game for granted.. The WNBA has tougher players..

This is mostly just an NBA thing but I can’t stand the continuation. The foul occurs and guys take two steps THEN go into their shot motion and shoot and if the shot goes in, refs give it continuation. Yet then when a guy fouls a player and said player continues like he’s going to try to shoot and the defender continues fouling them everyone freaks out. It’s an annoying double standard.

The other NBA thing that’s annoying is all the nontroversy. Everything LeBron related has to be drummed up into something major. The Chicago BS. Everything Golden State. Everything New York. The competitive product in the NBA stinks so everything turns into a soap opera.

When I play basketball at the local court I can’t take a jumpshot without some 12 year old sarcastically yelling "Curry!" at me.

The day kids stop yelling “Kobe!” on a shot is a day I don’t want to see

Personally I’m sick and tired of team commentators and TV personalities talking about the 3 point shot. The game evolves, get over it. They talk about the golden era of basketball, yet forget the blistering speed the game was played at for most of its history. It’s part of the game now, it opens up so much space for movement and plays. I see more dunks and dimes today then I ever did 10 years ago, and I enjoy that.

My biggest pet peeve though would have to be the way that people talk about and catagorize upperclassman coming out. Look at every mock draft every year and you see the same thing. One and done freshman from top to bottom. All the hype, all the publicity, and most of the draft picks go to these guys, and then we all act surprised when someone like Dremon Green and Faried breaks out. These guys were awesome in college, played for top coaches at top schools, and were the stars of their teams, but the only reason these guys tend to fall is because we rather look at their age and measurements instead of their heart and intangibles.

That last reason is why I like Danny Ainge as the Celtics GM. Because he focuses on a guys entire body of work, not just one year, and understands that everyone developes differently.

I don’t like the evolution of dribbling, and by that I mean the legality of carrying. I was in high school when the And-1 mixtapes exploded, so I’m not a crusty old man demanding to bring the days of Bob Cousy back or anything…

But watching a game in 2017 compared to even 1997, it’s unbelievable what they get away with now. Of course it’s easier to change directions and create separation from a defender when you can just hold the basketball without dribbling it!

Agreed, Isaiah Thomas would be so much easier to guard if they actually called carry and palming violations.

I hate when the ball is out of bounds and both players point like its their possession. What ever happened to sportsmanship. You either know you touched the ball last or not…..

the three point shots has been around for decades yet teams like the warriors and rockets act like they invented the idea of threes being more efficient than long twos. That’s been common sense for 25 years! However, I also dislike people who say if you can shoot the three, you should never take mid range jumpers. Some guys are better at 17 foot shots than 22 foot shots.

Grayson Allen is gritty, a bit like Danny Ainge. You would rather have him on your side than play against him

    Luke Kennard compare Craig Ehlo
