baokeonlongParticipantLook the East is not that strong with Dwight leaving Orlando and the Bulls being without Rose for a bit..
The Celtics, Nets, Heat, Pacers are the 4 best team in that conference…
The Nets have a starting 5 ( Lopez, Humpries, Wallace, Joe Johnson, Williams)
That team is stacked if the Celtics coast to a lazy 4 or 5 seed as usual they will play heat most likely in round 2… 1 vs 5 matchup.. Then I could see a Nets vs Pacers semi finals and the Nets to me are just more talented in a pretty good 6 or 7 game series

omphalosParticipantThe Celtics won’t coast to a lazy 4-5 seed this season, with so many new pieces and a less frenetic schedule they are going to go all out trying to figure out the roles and capacities of the players on their roster. This is a roster that is legitimately 10 players deep with quality and they could finish as high as 1st in the East the way Miami coasts through the regular season, but no lower than 3rd this year in my opinion.
Also, the Nets are still pretty bad defensively and that is going to cost them games against lesser opponents they should put away.
I’m really not convinced this team has the mettle to really join the elite, too many players with questionable determination and competitive drive.

HitsterParticipantThe Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference is stacked and for the first time in over 5 years, the Celtics should have competition for the division title with themselves, the Knicks and Nets having the potential to win over 50 games and the 76ers also having the roster to have a winning season. A lot depends how much the inter- division games take out of all these teams as Miami look to have a clear run at their division and the Pacers should be favourites for theirs unless D-Rose comes back sooner.
Teams like the Celtics will pace their season and if need be could sacrifice a seeding place for a fresher play off line up plus you have the D-Rose factor whereby he could return towards the end of the season and make a likely play off team into a legit contender but at a lower seeding position.

PlatypusParticipantYes the Nets have a good starting line up, but what will either make or break them is there depth

bloodbut what the celtics really did? They got 4 sgs and that suppose to be key to winning another chip?! Garnett year older,Pierce year older, only Jeff Green is true upgrade for them and even he didnt really pan out as we thought he would when he was with the Sonics/Thunder…And Sullinger isnt going to be 20 10 player never in his career, esp. as a rook(more of a 8 and 5) Melo wont play more then 10 mpg…..Imo Pacers,Knicks,Nets and even Philly with healty Bynum have chance to beat Celtics in 6 games…

SiggyParticipantI’d still prefer the C’s over the Nets, barring injury, mainly because of the defense, coaching and chemistry.
As far as matchups I think the C’s can put on the floor the best lineup to match up with the Heat with: Rondo, Courtney Lee, PP, J.Green and Garnett. All 5 of those guys can defend. The season I predict they can have will hinge on the production of Jeff Green, who IMO, has looked amazing in preseason.

SonicSabotuerEidolonI felt the same way but they have to learn how to play with eachother and joe johnson has to step it up BIG TIME.Also they would be more deadly with a scoring sf Gerald has a hard time hitting the open shoots brook, joe, and deron feeds him and he cant play the corners of the paint because brook needs space down low.So if they would had landed a carmello or signed a rudy gay in free agency instead of giving wallace a big pay day of 9 mill a year he deserves the mid level exception and is on the decline we all can agree. They could have went after a beasley, jeff green or JOSH smith for the pf spot. They have a few problems I thought they wouldnt have that they need fixed asap.

TyroberParticipantI would be extremely surprised if it’s anyone other than the HEAT vs Celtics. Both of those teams are clearly the best 2 seeds in the East.

Brew Meister SmithParticipantI’ll tell you what I’m not afraid to say…the Net’s probably will not make the conference finals this season. They look like a good team, but they are completely unproven as a group, and they definately have some depth issues.
The Heat are the Heat. The Celtics have the deepest team in the league right now, and took the Heat to 7 games last year with zero depth.
Not sure I see what you are seeing here.
It should be a great eastern conference playoffs this year though.

Meditated StatesParticipantHe is not playing around. Not sure if the L is ready. He is going to have a monster season.

Chilbert arenasParticipantI’d put Celtics right behind Heat right now. Jeff Green is playing at a another level right now and I like the addition of Courtney Lee and Darko. Once they get Bradley back they’ll be so tough defensivley in the back court. And I’d put the Pacers at three. Small additions of Augustin, Young, Green, and Mahinmi could help them get in the top three. Only thing is they were unusually healthy last year so we’ll see how they can hold up this year. I still have concerns about Brooklyn. I went to their first preseason game in Brooklyn and they struggled against the Wizards B-squad.

CynthiaParticipantWhile I don’t think the Nets will reach the conference finals, it’s about time the East has a handful of competitive teams. Going to be exciting to watch!

Chilbert arenasParticipantI meant that in a relative sense. He’s playing better than I can remember, maybe it’s just been too long since I’ve seen him play.
0- Posted on: Tue, 10/23/2012 - 4:05pm #722850

TallmanNYCParticipantIt has been too long. I read somewhere that his preseason stats are basically identical to his career stats. You are just remembering the good games and since he looks good out there you are falling for him. He is still Jeff Green. Rondo may make him a little better on offensive and Garnett might help him a bit on defense, but he hasn’t changed.
Doesnt matter though, sullinger is better than him and will start soon enough. Green is fine for a sixth man.

J_01ParticipantLmao as a raptors fan I hope this come true…
Realistically however the Raptors who I believe will probably be one of the teams fighting for the 8th spot if we have a good season and the Nets will be in that 5-7 range comfortably in the playoffs.

jmarg25ParticipantKnicks are the better team now IMO. Brooklyn has a nice starting five, but their bench is weak compared to the Knicks.

LipstickParticipantCeltics are far better, but the matchups are very interesting on paper
Williams v. Rondo
Johnson v. Bradley
Wallace v. Pierce
Humphries v. Bass or Green
Lopez v. Garnett
Love the potential perimeter matchups and I have a feeling that Garnett would destroy Lopez on the mental part of the game.

Ghost01ParticipantOkay a few things here…
The Nets blow. They are poorly coached, they look lost on offense, and their roster was vastly overrated to begin with.
Deron Williams is an overrated and overpayed player who hasn’t done anything in this league in 5 years. He isn’t a leader, and between him, Joe Johnson, and Brook Lopez, we saw last year those guys can’t lead a team anywhere.
So they add Pierce and KG. Who are both done. If you don’t think they are done, you haven’t watched them this season. They have both been terrible. And 35+ year old guys usually don’t improve as the season goes on.
Their bench has really no one great on it, and they have so many injuries right now it might be hard for them to even make the playoffs.
Also, lets slow down on the Celtics. They have been generally bad, but because they won a couple more games than these other bad east teams, suddenly they are a top 5 seed? C’mon. This team doesn’t even want to be good this year. Some of these other teams that have looked mediocre-bad, like Charlotte, Washington, Detroit (I know they’ve been a mess, but still) and the Knicks and Nets actually want to be good this season. Don’t overrate a team that is currently 7-12.

HaleParticipantI haven’t watched but I’ve followed how Garnett has done this year and it’s been beyond horrible. I’m surprised no one else has said anything. He’s averaging 6.8 ppg o 36% shooting.
