Seriously – check out Paul Allen. The $100 million donation isn’t the only amazing thing he has done with his vast fortune. Owning the Trailblazers and the Seahawks (and the Seattle Sounders) are great hobbies, but this guy is actually a pretty great human being.

This is awesome.  What a contribution.  There isn’t really much more you can say when one person donates $100 million to something.

He and Bill Gates have both done so much good with that Microsoft money.  Their attention the vast needs in Africa has been admirable.  Donald Trump ought to take a lesson or two in class and compassion from these guys.

Is being smart and creative not enough? People have to work hard and give their money away to be recognized.

Sheesh. Socialism worked for the Soviet Union and Germany I guess.

Paul Allen has always been a legend – finally people are recognizing him.

That being said, it’s a poor direction of his money. Ebola has claimed 1 life. Heart Disease kills 600,000 Americans a year

There is a world outside of the US.  Ebola has claimed more than one life.

Heart disease, like cancer, has an enormous world wide donor base and both are largely "lifestyle based" illnesses.

Ebola, on the other hand, has plague potential.  We need to contain it.  While not a direct comparisn, remember that AIDS had African origins.  They simply have living conditions and such and underdeveloped medical system that an infectious disease can spread very quickly.

If there is a disease that truly has too small a donor base, it is malaria.  This disease is a scourge with has never had enough attention.  If you are going to judge a disease by the number of global deaths or severly debilitating lifetime conditions, malaria should be high on the list.

When you compare it to how much money Australia has donated – 18mil – it’s over 5 TIMES what we have donated! A sad indictment of our government unfortunately. Really great civic mindedness from Paul Allen though.

I think this kind of donation is only partly public relations. The positive impact is exaggerated. Monetary donations help only so much.

Paul Alllen is definitely up there but Richard Branson (Virgin records) has to be there as well.
