I’ve read this on a couple of websites. I’m a Laker fan and I would def take this trade. K.Love is longer, tougher, scrapper, a walking double-double and cheaper! Plus the #2 pick. The lakers need a couple younger pLayers. This trade works with the T-wolves because Gasol and Rubio have a connection and it’s good marketing scheme. What do ya’ll think??

I would love this trade if I was a Lakers fan but absolutely hate it from the Wolves perspective.  While the T-wolves like Gasol because of his relationship with Ricky Rubio, Kevin Love is a future star.  Gasol is 30 years old and averaged 18.8ppg and 10.2rpg, while Kevin Love is 22 years old and averaged 20.2ppg and 15.2rpg.  Numbers favor Love big time.  Plus throw in the # 2 pick…LOL…..If Khan did this he should be fired on the spot!!!

LoL.. K-Love is 6’9 and Gasol is 7’0..  Both average arm legnths and I would venture to say that Gasol has a longer reach…

Anyway, if the Lakers pull this one off, I would be amazed… They would shed money and get better and younger… Crazy…

The Lakers wouldn’t be getting better. Pau Gasol is better then Kevin Love. Also, they would have to take on another salary ( probably Martell Webster), so they probably have the same amount of money because you gotta pay Love.

The #2 pick is the deciding factor.

Im sure that if they had to take back a contract, it would be bought out.. And they would be better because Love is getting better every year while Gasol’s best year is behind him.. He would put up big numbers for the Wolves but because he would be such a huge part of their offense.. Then, the Lakers could take a nice guard like Knight or trade the number 2 pick for the number 7 pick and cash or Jason Thompson and draft Jimmer Fredette….

Lots and lots of options for the Lakers if this trade goes down..

My first thought would be what does Kobe think of this as he loses his running mate but the flipside would be it makes the Lakers younger with Bynum, K-Love and the number 2 pick and gives Coach Brown a young core to look to build around post Kobe.

With all due respect to K-Love’s amazing stats I feel that Gasol offers much more than his stats show.

If the Lakers could make the deal work then it also saves them a ton of luxury tax.

Gasol may be a friend of Rubio but I do wonder if he would be happy playing on a struggling team at this stage of his career especially as his early and last years at Memphis were spent on a then struggling team.

David Kahn and logic don’t go together as far as trades go.

If the Lakers do get 2nd pick then I agree that Knight would be logical and if they could then trade down a place or two to get him and pick up another asset or two then the deal becomes even better for them.

The Wolves get ripped off.  Gasol is good and an all-star but he has already peaked.  The deep playoff runs have really gotten to him (plus all the games for the Spanish team). 

The Lakers rebuild with the best rebounder of the two and a good passer too.  With Irving going to the Cavs, the 2nd pick would be Derrick Williams.  A lineup of Kobe at the 2, Williams at the 3, Love at the 4, and Bynum at the 5, with Odom, Artest, and Fisher off the bench, would give the Lakers a GREAT team with a chance at getting back to the Finals.  If they can draft a halfway decent point guard, hold onto Shannon Brown, maybe add a backup center (like one of the Miami Cadavers such as Mags, Dampier, or Juwan Howard), and possibly another free agent point guard like Carlos Arroyo then the Lakers could get back to the Finals.

 Terrible trade for the Wolves.  I’m pretty sure they want to make Love the face of the franchise, and why would they trade him for someone so much older, PLUS you add in the #2 pick? Uh, yeah, no way this happens.  And as for the people who say "well Kahn is Kahn," I believe that Kahn wants to keep Love, based on some of his comments.  He’s found his face of the franchise, he should just work on getting all the pieces he can to surround Love with talent so that he won’t leave when his contract is up.

I’m pretty sure Gasol has already peaked.  He’s not going to get better than he is now. 

The Lakers get a great young player that can be a dangerous combo with Bynum in the post-Kobe years.  Not to mention, they also received the 2nd pick, which could be Irving, Williams, or Knight.  Definitely a great combo for the future and it keeps them as contenders for the rest of Kobe’s years.

The T-Wolves get an All-Star player that can provide a good veteran presence, which they need with all the young players.

T-Wolves get the short end of the stick.  Kahn would do this though…

Did Dirk Peak at 30?…Most guys who are rated at as the best at their position don’t peak at 30 they tend to get a little better because they start to think the game more than use their physical abilities. It is possible that he has peaked but if thats the case then for the next 3-4 years you have the best or one of the best PF’s in the game which is pretty good, especially now that he will be playing with a passing PG.

As far as stats, you can’t compare them because Love stats didnt lead to wins and Gasol probably would have averaged more point and reb then he did this year if he played for the Wolves. I can understand the Wolves and their win no apporach as well as prepare for the future which they would do by getting Gasol. Big men with his skill set tend to be able to perform at a high level for a long time (ala K.G)

Love for Pau str8 up maybe

They give up their sole all star and their highest lotto pick ever and miss out on the chance to pick derrick williams to play alongside Rubio for the hopes that the fact Rubio and Pau already have chemistry will allow the Triangle Offense to have immediate success.

Love’s ability to pass and shoot 3’s at 40% trumps Pau’s advantage on the block and defense IMO

Derrick Williams has the ability to be a Rudy Gay/Paul Millsap hyrbid at 6’9 245 lbs you dont just give away talent like that.

Only way this gets done if a third team is involved and helps the Lakers pull this off by giving the wolves another piece.

Why wouldn’t the Wolves accept when they are the one’s who brought up the trade. They came to the Lakers with the trade idea its the Lakers who are tryna decide if they will go through with. The trade idea is that the Wolves want Gasol now both teams have to figure out what it will take to make the deal happen. According to ESPN asources it will either be

Love, a bunch of players
Love a bunch of players and the number 2 pick
Beasley, the number 2 pick and a bunch of players

I think Pau has peaked in the sense that he is not going to get any better and I think he can’t play as many minutes as he used to.  If he gives you 17 and 10 then that is good but he put up 18-19 and around 10 boards on the Grizzlies.  I think he is still in his prime though for another year or two but he is past his peak.  He went to 3 straight NBA finals, played a ton of minutes early in this season at center, went to the 2nd round this year, and he has played for the Spanish team in the summer.  The mileage is adding up.  Plus, he got drafted in 2001.  

With that trade the Lakers will have Kobe (who is getting some rest in a longer than normal summer), and a GREAT front line with Love at power forward, Bynum at center, Derrick Williams at small forward, and Lamar Odom and Ron Artest off the bench.  A ton of depth with a need for a backup center (who they can either draft or pick up an old veteran big man to play a few minutes a night) and a point guard plus a backup shooter.  With the draft picks they can get Jon Diebler or someone like that.  Shannon Brown is a free agent and if they don’t want to resign him then I would throw a lot of money at Mario Chalmers who I think may turn into a younger version of Chauncey Billups.  I like Chalmers a lot.  If LA can get him then that would be a major blow to the Heat (right now he is their 4th guy basically).  If Miami matches a big contract offer then that would take some money away that the Heat could use to sign other guys which would also help LA (who could go back to the Finals with this trade).

The Lakers hired a defensive-minded coach, and you want them to deal for an abhorrent defensive player who not only didn’t commit to that end but couldn’t grasp why his coach would be bothered by that. Maybe you ought to put down those Bruin pom poms and get back to reality.

This is very easy situation to look at.  Pau maybe gets the Wolves to 30 wins next year.  Great we are a late lottery team but not really any better off than we are now.  By the time the rest of the team matures in 3 years and we are ready to compete for the playoffs Pau has clearly fallen off from elite level of play.  On the other hand Love will be only 25 and just entering his prime.  Throw on top of that either Williams or Kanter being in their 3rd year in the league and this trade starts to look very one sided.  This would clearly be a terrible trade for the Twolves.  For anyone trying to argue that this trade would happen cause its Kahn or that the Wolves need to do this cause of the Spanish connection with Rubio are simply grasping at straws.  The Wolves do not do this trade because by the time the team is ready to be competitive Pau is no longer an elite player.

Not approving or disproving the deal, but this actually is a legit deal, not just fan speculation for those of you who want proof…  There’s one link that I can’t seem to find where the deal looks like it’s dead.  Lakers are pretty much demanding the #2 pick and Love, but the Wolves, even though they are willing to give up #2, will not give up Love because of Gasol’s salary and the CBA talks.

Trading Love for Gasol straight-up sounds absurd on its face.  At this moment Love is more productive than Gasol.  And when you consider age, salary and the #2 pick, the trade is comical.  The only possible motivation I could see for trading Love is if cward23 is correct: Love is on his way out once his contract expires.  However, Love still has far more trade value than what is being offered here.  He’s the best rebounder the NBA has seen in a very long time and his game is improving every year.  If Minn announced that Love was on the block, a lot of teams would come calling offering a lot more than a skilled, but not dominant, 30-year-old C.

First of all, this deal is by no means a rip off. Both teams are getting something out of this deal.

Second, Pau Gasol is better than Kevin Love, and its really not even close. Until the 2011 playoffs, most people considered him to be the MOST SKILLED BIG IN THE NBA. 

And most of you are missing the biggest point. Minnesota is stocked up on young guys who arent quite good enough to win games. Keeping the definitive player of the criteria (Love) and adding another combo forward to the already crowded Beasely/Randolph mix (Williams) really isnt going to improve there team at all, unlesss Rubio is Nash, Stockton, and Magic all rolled into one. However, flipping them for a veteran who has won 2 NBA titles as the 2nd best player (being 2nd behind Kobe, arguably the generation’s 2nd best players, and at critical points proving he meant almost if not as much to the Lakers as Kobe) Really doesnt hurt at all. They still have Beasely, Rubio, Wes Johnson, and Randolph. Thats 4 young players who can contribute. 3 starters. Dont say "This trade sucks" you are the same fools that will be hyping love when this trade doesnt happen, he averages 20-15, and the team is 12-70.

I agree 100% I think Gasol helps more then Love. I’m actually high on Minnesota if they do this move. Wes Johnson has potential to be a great defensive player, Beasley could be a #2, Rubio should be solid. I think they could get a power forward for cheap as well. Maybe even keep Gasol at the 4 and Darko at the 5.

 It’s simply a matter of the ability to win now and win later. A frontline for potentially the next 10 years of Bynum and Love could be incredible. Love fits better with Bynum and is complemented nicely by Odom’s quickness. Love could space the floor as a 40% 3pt shooter whie allowing Bynum to be the primry interior big. Would also alow Kobe to find the mid-post to help save his legs and be the able to dominate a game as he woudn’t have to use all of his energy trying to beat guys off the dribble from 3. I don’t really think I have to mention the physicality that Love brings, not to mention he’s what we in the sport like to call a "winner". I’m personally all for this deal. I’m guessing though realistically if both teams end up agreeing they will realisticaly end up making the deal of Love and #20 as apposed to the #2.

 ^^^BK, Gasol and Darko proved in Memphis they weren’t a good match. Like i said before, I expect they keep #2 and take Enes as the physically skilled big to compliment Pau and Darko. Not to mention his game resembles Love’s a little and ultimaley doesn’t really cause them to feel the effects of the loss of Love. My guess, LAL would probably take Selby at #20 and add Julyan Stone in the 2nd round to balance out Selby height and lck of true pg abilities. 

I’ve also posted before that LAL and Minny have also had talks about a double deal if the big one doesn’t occur with LAL sending out their TPE from the Vujacic deal for Webster then a seperate deal of future considerations for the #20.
