Per Marc Stein, Orlando is currently listening to offers on forward Tobias Harris. Harris, who inked a 4 yr, $64 million dollar contract this summer, has not lived up to his price tag and has been unable to carry the offense for a young Orlando team. Evidence by his 13ppg average on the season in 33mpg. He’s been particularly terrible since January 1st, averaging a putrid 11ppg on 39% from the field.

I personally think it would be wise to move on from him for the right piece. On defense he’s league average on a good day, and bottom 5 on most days. He doesn’t have the size or lower body strength to play his man in the post. He’s not a threat to block shots from the strong or weak side. Plus he has serious "happy feet" while trying to guard SF’s on the perimeter or in transition.

If Orlando can get a young asset that can protect the paint, then I think they should pull the trigger either mid-season or this upcoming offseason. His reputation as a "Melo-lite" volume scorer just doesn’t seem to be in him. What do you all think? Am I giving up on Harris too quickly?

Tobias and free agent to be Fournier should be enough for the kings to swap Rudy Gay, Willie Cauley-Stein and Caron Butler.  Orlando gets the go to scorer they lack in Gay, shot blocking they lack in WCS and veteran leadership they lack from Caron.  They kings get a stretch 4 in Tobias and Fournier to help ease the loss of Gay’s shooting and scoring.

Sacramento rolls out a starting five of Cousins, Rondo, Harris, Fournier and Cassipi.

Orland rolls out a starting five of Vucevic, Gay, Payton, Gordon and Oladipo with WCS off the bench.

What you’re suggesting is getting good value in a young big for him. That’s hardly giving up on him. That’s getting solid value for a player that has underperformed.

Given the team dynamic, if you can get a solid young big that can actually protect the paint, I’d go for it. Those aren’t necessarily easy to come by though.

All said, I still like Harris and think he will bounce back. Best case scenario is he toughens up to become a versatile 4 that can push more on D.

I think there are a few teams in the East that are a player away from being contenders that Harris could help at the PF. I think he would be a good fit in Indiana. George, Harris, Turner could be a deadly front line next season. Another fit could be Detroit as he seems a clear step up from Illyasova. He could work in Washington but we know they are holding out for Durant.

Ultimately I think he will age better at the 4 than the 3 and given that he is 6’9" 235 he has the size. Just needs to be paired with a big, shot blocking center like Turner or Drummond.

Harris is sorta just not good, especially if he continues to shoot this poor. Outside of scoring he’s not very good at anything else, he’s not even a consistent threat from 3 either to be a quality stretch 4. At this point, Harris is a meh kinda player, maybe a bench scorer,.

I say give up.  Gordon has to get 36 minutes at forward, Magic seem to play better with Hezonja or Fournier at small forward, and Nicholson actually does everything that Harris does but at a lower cost.

It was better for the Magic to sign Harris, and not let him go as a free agent, so they do have an asset to use.

Harris and Frye are players for them to move, and even if they traded both for Joe Johnson’s ending contract it would be for nothing in the long term but they would clear money and fre up minutes for other young players.

This post is underrated to me.

From the Magic standpoint of view Harris still is an asset as they still haven’t any cap space issues with the remaining roster.

Harris is good but maybe not as good as his contract but sending him out fur sure will net a nice return in one way (talent) or the other (cap space or picks).

Hezonja seems to be let out of the doghouse and Fournier had a nice start too. When (not if to me) Oladipo and Elfrid figure out how to have a good 2nd half Harris just isn’t needed and we still haven’t talked about Gordon and Nicholson yet. What they really could need is a shot blocker a la Whiteside light or a sniper like Augustin or someone esle fitting that mold.

Im all on bored for them trading both harris and Frye… Havent looked into any possible trades but a draft pick and expiring contract would be great. If they could get johnson it would be a good vetaran guard to help bring fournier oladipo and Payton along.. And i been all on bored for Nicholson playing more either to build trade value or just devolop more. Its time for gordon and hezonja to get their minutes even if it results in more losses.

days in Orlando were numbered……. Skiles & Harris clashed in Milwaukee where Harris could not get out of  Skiles Dog House….. Harris made his way to Orlando where he has flourished…..

I don’t understand why Orlando signed him to that new contract & hired Skiles…… & his trade value has since been ruined…. A sign & trade would have been a great move during the Summer when Harris’ value was peaked…..

As it stands, everyone in the NBA knows Orlando has no leverage b/c Harris & Skiles don’t seem able to co-exist…… So you guys might be stuck w/ him unless you are willing to give him up for almost nothing…..

Which might be worth it just so the Magic can get out from under that contract…. What does everyone else think?
