canadabasketballisrisingParticipantIn your opinion, and without seeing a finished product of garunteed olympic teams, how would you rank each country from 1-10 (assuming that all of each country’s players agree to play for their country as of right now).
1. USA
and go…

herceg_bukuParticipant2. Serbia – Came in 2nd in the world championships. Serbia just beat Spain and Germany few nights ago. They look very good, may not have their entire roster intact and as many NBA stars as some other teams. But they are a really good functioning team that keeps winning.
3. France – Just loaded with old and young talent (that Spain is lacking). Aside from Serbia in my opinion they are favourites to win the Eurocup

trelos6Participant1. USA (LBJ, Durant, CP3, Curry, Westbrook, Davis where does it end!)
2. Spain (Gasol bros, Ibaka, Rubio, Navarro).
3. France (Parker, Batum, Gobert)
4. Australia (Mills, Bogut, Dellavedova, Exum, Simmons)
5. Greece (Koufos, Antetokounmpo, Spanoulis, Calathes, Papanikoulaou)
6. Argentina (Manu, Scola, Nocioni)
7. Serbia (Teodosic, Bogdanovic, Bjelica, Nedovic)
8. Lithuania (Valanciunas, Motiejunas, Kleiza)

dmo21ParticipantPeople are starting to overrate Canada. Yes, the team has a lot of young guys with potential, but they’re not even close yet. They need experience and a couple more guys to step up before they should be considered. The only guy in the team who is a legitimate starter in the league is Wiggins. Then you have Thompson and Olynyk as the next tier. In 5 or so years, this team could be special though.

mgreener_34ParticipantSadly, this topic is a little bland, because the top 10 teams are just that, the top 10 teams, and their is really no wiggle room. Right now the FIBA rankings have it as:
1. USA
2. Spain
3. Argentina
4. Lithuania
5. France
6. Russia
7. Serbia
8. Turkey
9. Brazil
10. Greece
I think for the most part this is pretty accurate, but I think France is going to take over the #3 spot as all the good players on Argentina are over the age of 35, and Greece will probably shoot into the #6 with the maturation of Giannis, Kostas Pops, and Nick Calathes.
Australia is the only team outside of the top 10 that can break though, and I actually see them doing that fairly soon. They gave the USu18 group all they could handle last year, so they have talent. Exum, Delle, Baynes, and Ingles are all NBA players, and all are above average IQ players. They could make a run and surprise people with a Bronze in a couple of years if Exum can come back strong.
So by the next Olympics, I think the top ten will be something like:
1. USA
2. Spain
3. France
4. Lithuania
5. Argentina
6. Greece
7. Russia
8. Brazil
9. Turkey
10. Serbia
This field is extremely one sided I think, as the top 6 teams have to much size, skill, and depth, while the bottom 4 teams have little depth, and lacked skilled big men (except Brazil). The top 4 teams, USA, FRA, SPA, LIT, are head and shoulders above the rest of the field in my honest opinion.

slepchorParticipantSorry but in no way can I see Lithuania being head and shoulders above Greece. Just watch the rosters of the current european championship mate. Sure we can add Moty but greeks are also missing Sofo and Nikos Pappas. Lithuania is around a transition point these days, no actual playmaker except for Kalnietis, and Seibutis at the 2? Maciulis at the 3? Even with Kleiza in the conversation, Greece has Sloukas, Spanoulis, Calathes, Antetokounmpo and Pap for the same 3 positions.. A few years back sure we could argue about which team is better or who has the most depth, but especially this year, Greece is one of the top-3 deepest teams in Eurobasket. Lithuania will go as far as Jonas can carry them, just take a look at their loss to belgium (!) Anyway, in general, my top 10 would go like :
1) USA
2) France
3) Serbia
4) Spain
5) Greece
6) Argentina
7) Croatia
8) Italy
9) Brazil
10) Lithuania

sitlbitoParticipantI hope France will be second, and after that you have in no particular order,Serbia,Spain,Greece,Lithuania,Australia,Canada,Brazil,Croatia… By the way I don’t get why 2 teams from the FIBA americas get to qualify for the olympics and only 2 as well from eurobasket. Eurobasket should have at least 3,except the USA,Europe is dominating the rest of the world right now. Canada is coming along and Australia is in the mix,but other than that,no team outside Europe really stands a chance.

canadabasketballisrisingParticipantagreed. Europe in fairness for skill probably should have 4 teams, and 3 from america.
I disagree with dmo_21; If you compare to the 4th-10th teams to Canada on paper (Outside of the obvious top 3 teams-USA, France, Spain) all of the teams have ast best 1 legit starter and 1 or 2 close starters ( I think Thompson is a legit starter on most teams, but even if he isn’t), and then top european vetarerans verus young nba bench players basically round out the rest. Canada as of last year has the most nba players besides the usa (more than even France). I think on paper Canada is somewhere near ther bottom of this top 10.
I think it’s pretty fair to rank them 8th or 9th, but in reality, they need more experience and are proably just outside the top 10 because of lack of experience. I honestly think Canada right now could beat Brazil, Lithuania or Croatia in very close games, right now.
If only Canada could add someone like D. Jordan, like how spain added Ibaka…

No, that is not true. They lost to Brazil without Brazil having their top 5 or so players, as Canada was basically missing their top 5 or so. Cnada Had Nicholson, Bennet, and not alot much more. 5 players from that team are playing now, it was not just Wiggins!

barbabodomParticipantFair enough, Canada was missing a lot more that Wiggins. But they still had Murray, Heslip, Ejim and Wiltjer, all of them I believe are in Canada´s plan. But yes, Brazil was missing basically our entire team.
Nene, Varejão, Splitter, Barbosa, Huertas, Raul Neto, Marcus Vinicius, Alex Garcia, Lucas Bebe, maybe Bruno Caboclo and probably someone I forgot.

SandHard to be definitive with this kind of list. Particularly because NBA talent doesnt always equal international talent because the games are so different.
US
France
Spain
Australia
Canada
Lithuania
Greece
Turkey
Argentina
Serbia
Croatia
