NorrinRaddParticipantOne of the stupidest things I’ve heard today… Zach Lowe is no longer with ESPN due to lay off…

HitsterParticipantESPN have moved out or not retained a fair number of presenters/analysts in recent months.
ESPN have got rid of both former players turned analysts and presenters/reporters recently so it’s not as if they are looking to centre their coverage more around “big name” guys. Also female staff like Sam Ponder have been released and younger former players like Robert Griffin III from their NFL coverage.
SPN splashed out a lot of money on contracts in summer 2022 but seem to have cut back their roster this summer by not renewing or reaching buyouts.
Woj had 3 years left on his deal at $7 million a year so it wasn’t like his contract was running down as I had wondered whether he had decided to go on his own terms if some of his peers were being released. But Woj was a hugely respected name and I think he has just had enough of the hectic nature of broadcast work. His salary at his new role is under $200k per year so he is taking a big pay drop. But he has made good money from his broadcasting work and his new salary certainly isn’t small so he is probably happy to have a better work life balance now.
Woj will be a big name to replace but ESPN do save a chunk of salary and can bring on newer “talent” in his place. A broadcasting roster will always evolve and change especially in the lower and middle ranks but when changes are made at the top then it tends to create bigger news.
