European BallerParticipantWhat a joke that idiot Jeff Van Gundy is. Spanoulis was one of the elite players of the 2006 world championship, the 2008 Olympics, and now the 2010 world championship.
But this IDIOT Van Gundy claimed he could not play in the NBA. What a freaking joke.

OhCanada-Participant(06-07) Vassilis Spanoulis Stats- HOUSTON ROCKETS, NBA
31GP, 8.8MPG, 2.7PPG,0.9APG,0.7RPG,0.9 TO, 32%FG,17%3PT
He must have made drastic improvements because he was 25 when he had an oppurtunity to play in the NBA, I’m sure if you checked a player effeciency rater Spanouilis was one of the worst players in the NBA “that year”. Doesnt make him a bad player, maybe he is just not used to the rules or pace of NBA Basketball.

European BallerParticipantSpanoulis is better than every point guard in the NBA except maybe Nash and Williams.

joecheck88Participantand nenad krstic should pursue a career in mma after basketball. the guy had his chance and he couldnt make it. he is a very good player and maybe his confidence was low when he was here but he didnt take advantage of the oppritunity he was given so leave it alone.

doubledribblerParticipantI’m guessing he had a good game? I do agree that there is an adjustment period, especially for a guy that is a star player in one league that goes to another and sits on the bench. The NBA game is completely different from the rest of the international basketball. Most rookies struggle adjusting to being on the move all the time, the long season and the huge upgrade in athleticism. I’d like to see him come back to the NBA, but I’m not sure what the chances are, especially if you are here and not playing when you are 25, do you want to risk wasting your last few good years to come back over and possibly have to prove yourself and readjust again?

sheltwon3ParticipantJeff Van Gundy and Spanoulis style of play did not mesh. He is not as bad as he showed in Houston but clearly not a top 3 point guard

freddy79ParticipantThis guy, European Baller, is a troll. He writes the same things with other identities in other basketball sites. He does that because he likes to be insulted, and since he’s aware how little Americans know about European basketball.
Spanoulis is not good enough to play in the NBA big minutes, everybody with a grain of brain knows that. He’s a good scorer, and nothing else: not enough athletic, not a good passer…
Yi Jianlian is making 26 PPG: does that make him the best player in the world?

freddy79ParticipantOh, thank you man. I needed your help to know that…I didn’t know that China is not in Europe…
Man, where did I say that Yi is an European player? I just said that this guy jokes with Americans just because they didn’t follow European basketball.
I also used Yi example for one reason: he’s the best scorer right now, and he plays in the NBA. Being the best scorer in the World Championship doesn’t make him the best player in the world. Who follows NBA ball should know that…

PureshooterParticipantSpanoulis isn’t a bad player, but he isn’t a starter in the NBA. He would be a solid back-up, but that’s it.

JoeWolf1I hear you freddy with the Yi reference, Hamed Haddai has been tearing it up too, and he is not the best center in the world, but rather the 3rd best for the Grizzlies last season.
The funny thing too about Vassilis Spanoulis’ line from the game yesterday is that he did score 28 points, but did so with 1 assist, 3 turnovers, and
0 rebounds. His shot caught fire and he lit up the scoreboard. So by our friend European Baller’s rational a 28 point 0 rebound 1 assist 3 TO game in the FIBA World Championships makes you better than every point guard in the NBA except MAYBE Nash or Williams. lol0 - Posted on: Mon, 08/30/2010 - 8:52am #390191

McDunkinLike they learned about sofo right? Or are we gonna act like you never said that?
But Spanoulis would be a great back up combo guard in the U.S., but i dont see why he would take less money at this point

HitsterParticipantSpanoulis is a top European player but his game may just not be suited to the NBA. I’d agree that he would be a solid back up PG at best in the NBA.
Yi has done more in the NBA than Spanoulis but with injury and having been bounced around 3 teams he probably needs a settled role to show his best in the NBA. Hopefully Washington can give him that platform but he will be competing with McGee, Blatche and Seraphin for minutes with John Wall as his PG then he may well get better service than he has had so far in his career. He has developed slowly each year but this season is crucial with it being his contract year.
