LA12ParticipantIf Westbrook finishes the season averaging a triple double and the Thunder make the playoffs it shouldn’t belong to anyone else.

NickWayne87ParticipantThat’s what my heart wants. Hell if he averages a triple double for the year I want him to get it regardless of ANYTHING. Logic tells me if the Warriors win 70 again he can forget about it. If they win 65 plus it will still be an uphill battle. Now if the Thunder finish atleast top 4 in the west he would have it sewed up.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantNo mvp since the 1988 season has been on a team that has won fewer than 54 games. Just something to keep in mind. Not necessarily saying it can’t happen this season.
If Westbrook stays at a 30-10-10 pace and the thunder stay on a 50 win pace, he would have to seem like the frontrunner. Harden would be my second choice at this point in the season but there are still a lot of games to play.
If either the rockets or thunder fall to closer to .500 that would likely eliminate Westbrook or harden from contention. In that case, lebron and Durant would probably become the frontrunners. Apologies to Anthony davis, who is having a phenomenal individual season, but the pelicans just won’t be good enough to warrant serious consideration.
Of course, you can never discount the 2-time reigning mvp, but I have a feeling voter fatigue will likely keep curry from winning it again. Leonard is a darkhorse.

NickWayne87ParticipantIs averaging 27ppg on 19 shots a game with a 56.4 career best shooting percentage while grabbing almost 9reb a night. Shooting over 40 percent from 3. Warriors win 65 to 70 that’s gonna be HARD to beat.

SubZeroParticipantLike has been said, if Russell averages at or near a triple double and we win 50+ games, it has to be him. If he/we fall short, and the Rockets get a top 5 seed, I would give it to Harden. If they do that well while having a bottom 5 defense, that’s an incredible feat. Both interpretations of the phrase “Most Valuable” could apply that people seem to fight over every year: the best performer on a contender and the player who holds the most value to his team. Kawhi, Lebron, KD, Steph, and potentially Blake all have to be in the conversation, but if the Thunder or Rockets have a good season it has to go to one of those guys

Andv1 WaitingParticipantTop 3 Candidates:
Russell Westbeast and James Harden. Both doing something nobody thought possible: Russell with a tripple double average and keeping the Thunder in the playoff mix. Harden being a PG/facilitator,nobody saw that coming with his iso ball history. Both are the Top dog on teams with no other Allstars/Top 15 in the whole NBA players..
Kawhi leonard if you had to choose a top 3 team player: The only other player that is putting on some impressive basketball. His only real help is Lamarcus the rest are aging vets or role players in a good system.
I chose to leave these players for the following reason:
GSW(Curry,Klay,Draymond and K.D) as essentially you can make an argument of if you take one of them off you can still win a game…I think the media would also be reluctant to give to a GSW player due to the K.D pick up..
Cavs: You could loosely argue lebron due to the Cavs losing when he doesn’t play but he still has a lot of help compared to top 3 from Kevin love and Kyrie(2 other top 15 players at their position/maybe in the NBA). Also I see his stats being lower than the top 3 who are doing more with less and still have their teams in the top 6..

BiggysmallsParticipantIf you play for Golden State, you should be disqualified. The team won 73 games last year. Take away Durant and they’d still be great. Take Curry away and this collection would still be great. Same goes for Thompson.
It’s MOST VALUABLE…not most outstanding. So I don’t care what numbers Durant puts up. His team is amazing with our without him.
OKC would be the worst team in the league without Westbrook. Houston would stink without Harden. Spurs would look much worse without Kawhi.
C’mon people…Warriors players cannot be the most valuable in the league. They can be the best. Not the most valuable.

Andv1 WaitingParticipantYou are exactly right: MVP should go to the most Valuable player who is doing the most with the least around him while still keeping the team in the mix not the Most Outstanding Team: With 4+ allstars,4+ USA men olympians(Draymond,Klay,K.D,Iggy(london) and Curry would have made it if healthy)..
If the media gave it to any GSW player this year I would have to then say the MVP award is officially a joke..
