I’m a Bobcats fan (I live in Charlotte-can’t help it) and we desperately need to add a Shooting Guard and SCORING–hopefully in the form of one player. The Cats can already play D, as their opponent FG% attests. That’s why it’s disconcerting that the best SG’s likely available at pick 12 will be defensive-potential guys Gerald Henderson and Terrence Williams–just more of the same.

So I’m trying to get creative about filling our needs, keeping in mind that it could or could not involve a “trade down” to a lower pick.

Are there any good PG’s or SF’s in this draft who you feel could generate offense from the SG-spot?

Jeff Teague is only 6’1.5″, but he has athleticism and good length for that size, along with shot-creating ability. Reminds a LITTLE of Iverson. Problem is, the Bobcats have very small guards in Felton and Augustin.

Anybody know much about 6’2″ Beaubois from France? His 6’9.75″ wingspan and 8’4″ standing reach should give him appropriate length for minutes at SG. And the Bobcats are building a little French-speaking team(Diaw, Ajinca, Diop of Senegal), so he could feel at home here.

i think Budinger would be good for the Bobcats he could play big minutes for them off the bench or starting and can play shooting guard.

I see them drafting holliday, he is not a proven pg. so he can play the two and char could slowly bring him around to be a pg if they choose.

The only non Shooting guard worth talking about is Curry that early in the lottery but there are a few after that Like Marcus Thorton how is kind of like Ben Gordon who would actually work with the Cats if they decided to go after him but to me there are a lot of sthooing guards available in the NBA the Cats needs someone how can create his own shot and also be a go to guy in late situations.

Beaubois is a terrible shooter. They would have a very poor shooting backcourt with him. Not to mention they couldnt play any D. I like Ellington or Budinger for Charlotte. I’m not sure if they can trade down or would have to stretch to get them. McClinton is a solid guy that fits your question they could snag in the second round.

Actually I think he is a pretty good shooter. He improved a lot.

I don’t think you can categorize gerald henderson as only defensive, but if he’s not available, you’re right, there isn’t a whole lote of offense. Budinger would be kind of a reach.

yea man, you guys are lookin kind of screwed in this case…. this draft is filled with guys, esp around 12, that are a lot like boris diaw and wallace (3-4s) and PGs, like Felton and Augustin….

Marcus Thorton is a good scorer, but I think that’d also be a reach. Beaubois doesn’t have a refined offensive game he’s an athlete with great wingspan. The bobcats should sell that pick or trade down if harden, henderson, evans or derozan don’t fall

Everything I’ve heard about him says he is a bad shooter. I think Budinger would be the least of a stretch of the good offensive players projected mid to late first round.

I like Chase. If you need a shooting guard you take Chase it is simple to me.

The Bobcats have had a problem of drafting physically-limited college All-Stars:

Adam Morrison(no explosiveness or bulk)
Sean May(very poor standing reach and average wingspan for a PF)
DJ Augustin(very small but at least it’s at the PG position where size matters least)
Jared Dudley(no length or explosiveness–relies on completely on intelligence)
Okafor?(a lot of people consider him a ‘tweener, but I think his length and strength are appropriate for C)

I hope they get it right this year.

Draftexpress says one of his strengths is his 3 point range. It also says he is inconsistant though.

NBAdraft says, “As a shooter hes already quite reliable, even from long range with a nice high release” but only gives him a 7.

Not great but not terrible. He used to be terrible but I read somewhere that he has put in a lot of work over the last two years.

Beaubois declared for the 2009 NBA Draft. Because this is the third time he has declared, he cannot withdraw from the draft. Plays for Chalet in France. Averaged 8.5 ppg and 2 apg during the 2008-09 season. Discovered by Warriors guard Mickael Pietrus at a camp he holds in Guadalupe. Declared for the 2007 and 2008 NBA drafts, but withdrew after not getting first-round consideration.

Positives:

Long, athletic point guard
Excellent quickness
Good defender.

Negatives:
Very inexperienced
Shaky perimeter shot
Poor assist-to-turnover ratio

Summary: June 2 Update: Beaubois’ 39-inch leap made him one of only five players or more inches in the maximum vertical jump. Full combine story
Apr 30 Update: Beaubois raised his stock with a solid performance at the 2007 Euroleague camp but still needs more experience in the Europe. He has the raw athletic tools to get things done, but still lacks great basketball IQ. He’s a potential second round pick this year.

I’ll have to find out where I read more about him. Who cares anyways, he’s a second rouner. Intrigueing though.

We know Budinger can jump well with a running start, but how are his defending, lateral quickness, and shot-creating abilities? He’s not long for 6’7″. It’s my understanding that he’s quite adept at the catch-and-shot.

Someone ease my troubled mind. The Adam Morrison blunder has left many of us Bobcat fans a bit cynical and wanting nothing less than fantastic athletes on the Wing.

They will draft well because Larry Brown is there and DJ Augustine was not a bad pick up and Sean May is talent but always hurt and overweight. Felton took a while to develop. Morrison was a dumb MJ pick(See Kwame Brown)

Budinger is much quicker than Morrison. Budinger isnt great on defense but wont get dominated. He looks like the perfect sidekick to Wallace.

Larry Brown who I am not really a fan of personally did a good job in bring some talented players who could work well in his system like Raja Bell, Boris Diaw. They would have made the playoffs if they started the year with those players. I think Brown may be trying to get Prince to come to Charlotte so dont be surprise if Detroit and Charlotte trade picks lol. Wallace is cool but Larry Brown is not High on him.

Seriously that would be a scary lineup. I was just saying lol because Brown has done it again finding ways to reaquire players that he really likes or have coached. I would not be surprise if he get AI to come play for him because this team would need a go to guy and it is already being built for defense.

Henderson is a fine athlete, but IMHO, he has a ways to go offensively. I haven’t seen much change-of-direction in his dribbling. He doesn’t have the reputation of being a deep shooting threat as a SG. The fact that he likely had a lifetime of great coaching with an NBA guard father and still leaves Duke with offensive holes worries me that his mom gave him bad shooting/offense genes that are impossible to overcome……

Larry Brown played rookie DJ Augustin a lot last year, though.

Augustin was a “nice” pickup. Time will tell if Lopez/Chalmers would have been a better draft than Augustin/Ajinca.

Gerald Wallace is great and really something to see at the arena. He’s Jordan and LeBron WITHIN 10 FEET OF THE BASKET. But his outside shot involves a slow, awkward release. His perimeter dribbling is average at best. He’s the kind of guy who needs to be flanked by smooth offensive players. Unfortunately he’s flanked by Felton and Okafor, good role players/teammates with offensive limitations. Diaw helps some. But if we slid an offensive stud into SG, things would really come together.

I like Budinger or Teague for them. Teague is a solid athlete who shoots 40+% from 3. He will have trouble guarding the 2 though. I say let Felton go and take him. I still hate the Phoenix trade. Loved the combo of G-Wall and J-Rich.

The Phoenix trade: They were so desperate for a servicable 4-man at that point, that they had to do something. May and Ajinca were a joke. Okafor and Mohammed just didn’t have PF mobility. It looked like a good trade intitially in terms of wins–but things faded a bit down the stretch. We’ll see. It’s a shame they didn’t have a legit PF on the roster entering the ’08-09 season. Then maybe they could have kept J-Rich.

Jason Richardson was being paid too much too much and they could have gotten players his level and better for cheaper. Lopez would have been a better pick up but a lot of team dropped the ball on that one. No one knew he would be that good and so earlier at that. He may be the next great big man. I say that because his offensive skills are better than Howards who has the title. Not hating on Howard just saying.

He is way more athletic. I agree him and Gerald Wallace would compliment each other well and would be scary on the brake on each wing. Just throw it up and watch someone get dunked on.

I hope he is right because I am not a big fan of Chase because i dont see him as being anything but a role player. He didn’t want star status in college and he has all those raw tools that if he really had the drive he would be higher.

I just don’t see any real value at drafting a SG at pick 12 in this draft. If I were Charlotte I would snatch up Earl Clark or James Johnson. They would likely be the best players available. Both offer length and versatility, something the Bobcats need. Charlotte can address their SG needs in the 2nd round. In the second round I would take a chance on somebody like Preldzic and/or Taylor.

Eric Devendorf! He’s a point guard. A handful of scouts say he’s a shooting guard.
