mikeyvthedonParticipantCan’t believe there is no thread or running commentary on this game. Been pretty crazy right now. Shaq actually just made a great point (I don’t say that a lot), "You don’t want to give a subpar team life." All in all, New York has mainly been a subpar team this season and while the Heat have played better this game (and of course this season), New York is still very much in this one.
Liner notes:
- Lin got destroyed in the 1st half, 2 points 6 TO’s
- Amare and Melo combined for 20. Amare got 11, but had 6 TO’s as well
- LeBron looks fairly possessed, 8 points 5 steals at half
- Dwyane Wade has 12 and missed a dunk and a couple heartbreak lay-ups. He is amazing.
- Did you see the food the TNT crew got? That made me freaking hungry, looked damn delicious!
- Excited for All-Star weekend starting tomorrow, but looking forward to the 2nd half!

I May Be WrongParticipantNoCo had a fastbreak dunk that COULD have ended up being really bad. He fell awkwardely on his back after the dunk but luckily, he got back up quickly.

Scottoant93ParticipantThere was a strech where it seemed like the knicks couldnt even make a pass without turning it over, The heat took advantage and scored about 8 unanswered points, that was a crazy 2 minute stretch. I missed most of the second since i went to get some dinner haha but knicks looking sloppy..heat will take over at some point…and yes mikeyV i am actually voting for the heat in this game. If there is a team i dislike more then the heat its the knicks by a long shot haha

mikeyvthedonParticipantReally glad he got up quickly. He is a grinder, really fun to watch him play. He could be one of those guys who does well in the rookie game tomorrow. Done a strong job on J-Lin. New York is still in this though, despite making mistake after mistake. Dwyane Wade going into takeover mode with a conservative throw down and a nice J. I do not think there is a player who makes me want to play basketball when I watch them as much as D-Wade.
@Scotto: Agree with you, but, we have gone over this:
Cheering, rooting (though in Australia that means f(u)cking): Sports
Voting: All-Star Game, Elections

Champzilla21ParticipantHow about Joel Anthony out their, hes swatting EVERything in the lane and grabbing the boards with great outlets

mikeyvthedonParticipantIf only Joel had any concept of offense, he would be a decent spot starter. He is not a bad passer, but he has 4 blocks (amazing) and 2 boards (not amazing) in 17 minutes with his usual donut. Just got a nice offensive board he luckily kept, this is one of the better games I have seen Joel play this year.
Still would probably be better if they had gotten a different Joel, Przybilla, who is a much better rebounder and is a giant body to go up against on defense. PG’s have not been bad this year, so center is still a bit of a concern. Would be nice to see Eddy Curry out there dunk it than flip D’Antoni the bird.

Future_Scoutamare takes it personal going against bosh

Scottoant93ParticipantIts not that im not suprised Przybilla didnt pick the heat, im more shocked he went back to the blazers, i mean im not into "curses" or any of that but big men have really bad luck there..and there training staff either dont seem to know what their doing, or dont keep up with their players.
Heat are getting basically everything they want, but somehow are just not pulling away… this game will be over soon if they keep this up though.
BTW my bad on the voting/cheering thing haha

Champzilla21ParticipantHaha That would be nice, yeah itd be nice to see them get a nice big but itd need to be a big who could step out abit and not clog the cutting lanes who could also benefit from wade and james drive and dishes

Future_Scoutpat riley spotted anthony and payed him a good amount. he has made ton of progress considering he struggled to catch the ball just last year (i’ve read that he got small hands) . he couldn’t make a hook shot to safe his life, and this year he can even shoot the hook with the left. this guy runs the floor like a sf. and most importantly brings that hard working attitude which sticks to other players.
edit: remember when they chanted mvp for him LOL

mikeyvthedonParticipantFans loved Joel and I think Joel really liked Portland. He actually was thinking of retiring when he was traded to Charlotte and he said it came down to Portland and Miami. As much as it might have been fun to play with the Heat, he already knows most of his teammates and Nate McMillan’s system.
Plus, while he might have had more of a chance to start on the Heat, he is definitely needed just as much on a Portland team with no true center besides Marcus Camby (who was not always a center). Joel is a CENTER. That dude is enormous. He is a monster rebounder, hard to push around and his length bothers people. He does not have a lot going on offense, but he knows his role.
I know what you are saying about Joel Anthony, but he just destroyed them against Dallas. LeBron of course played a bigger role in that, but Joel certainly did next to nothing. I think you just expect more rebounds from a center and I find while he blocks shots, he is not a shut down defender. Well, Miami is getting a double digit lead here. Would be a huge win to stretch their streak to 8 into the All-Star Break. I know it is not necessarily the end of the world if they do not get the leagues best record, but I think that they should shoot for it.

KayjayParticipantThats why they are still in this game. The Knicks job is to out score you, and while its dangerous during the regular season, no one shoots like that during the playoffs. Been a pretty good game though.

mikeyvthedonParticipantWe all know he can. The fact that he has been such a journeyman surprises me. Maybe he sticks with the Knicks, but most every team can use a shooter like Novak. Miami has one named "James Jones". Lol, I am a big James Jones fans, but he is in the dregs of their depth chart right now. He and Novak, Kyle Korver, those are shooters right there, though.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI think it’s funny people criticize Melo for holding the ball, but say nothing when LeBron dribbles for a lot of the shotclock and then either shoots it or passes it.
Lin had tunnel vision tonight. He missed wide open players.
Bosh was a beast tonight. I find it funny when people claim he’s not an elite player at his position.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/23/2012 - 4:38pm #640640

mikeyvthedonParticipantHe is trying, nice theft from Wade, but this is just not his game. Great defense by Miami. Chris Bosh DESTROYED the 2nd half, with LeBron and Dwyane playing awesome as well. We will see what happens with the Knicks gaining chemistry, but they were not overly impressive.
Melo was his usual self, at times unstoppable, most times stopping himself with a ridiculous shot. Amare did nothing in the second half beside a couple of FT’s. Miami’s role guys were dead on. The Heat really carried this one through and have had much less of a habit of letting teams back in games. Happened countless times last season.
Well, I was not alone when I picked the Heat as my pre-season favorites and the mid-season has done little to change my mind. If they stay healthy, looks like they are the absolute team to beat. I am sure they will have their hurdles, but I will say, nothing kills the "un-clutch" reputation more than winning a ring.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/23/2012 - 4:39pm #640638

IndianaBasketballParticipantAnd something is wrong with Amare’s back. He looks stiff out there.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/23/2012 - 4:46pm #640644

IndianaBasketballParticipantThey were the team to beat last year.
Any year they don’t win it is a disappointment. They have arguably the two best players in the world.

ultrablue123ParticipantWhy did Lin keep shooting that ugly high floater? Many times I noticed when he got in the lane he would just toss the ball up really high and it wasn’t working at all.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/23/2012 - 5:39pm #640681

tuck243Participantlooked tired… I like the defense he plays on LeBron… Just wish he would do that all the time… Another thing Lin will be cool but instead of looking for his shot his reaction should be getting Amare & Co. the ball… A few times I’ve seen him completely miss open players… Not just this game tho…
NO NBA POINT GUARD should get his cookies took as much as Lin was tonight… A pass turnover yes… But getting the ball snatch from your possesion dribbling or looking to pass is a problem… It’s the NBA EVERYTHING is a foul… He’s not strong as people think he is with the ball… Nor does he have the vision like people say he does… I think he will be fine but those are major issues with Lin… D. Rose wasn’t a great PG when he came into the league either… He’s worked on it and IMO the best PG now… Hopefully this lose will make Lin defer more instead of playing hero ball…
The Heat are still small in the post… They can be beat… If the Lakers (or should I say Kobe) pass more to their bigs they might have a great chance to make it to the finals.. AND WIN… Just my 2 cents… Kobe is my favorite player but he has looked terrible the past couple of games… PASS NINJA!!!!

tuck243ParticipantWhat you don’t agree with?? or you think I’m completely wrong?? Explain
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/23/2012 - 9:11pm #640729

sheltwon3ParticipantThey gameplanned for Lin and it worked but I think next time Knicks see Heat the game will be a lot closer plus Knicks are still missing two solid contributers in Shumpert and Harrelson.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/23/2012 - 9:26pm #640731
NYK2010ParticipantKnicks subpar really.
Miami just happens to be the best team in the East.
The Knicks made a lot of foolish mistakes, i’m sure they’ll get better though.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 02/24/2012 - 1:45am #640754
NYK2010ParticipantWhen the season started and they signed Baron Davis I figured the Knicks would be a dangerous team in March and maybe that holds true. Didn’t know it would be with Lin but w/Harrelson, Shumpert both back in a few games they’ll have a solid bench.
Got a feeling Shumpert’s D is missed against elite Guards he makes them work with this size, athleticism and ball pressure.
Knicks need to cut down on the turnovers, they aren’t good enough to make up for the mistakes to’s lead to. Missed shots are one thing but blatant to’s like those against Miami are a killer.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 02/24/2012 - 7:55am #640817

Ghost01ParticipantLin had some really bad TOs but it just wasn’t his night shooting it. So many shots he put up just did not fall. He’ll be fine though. Miami is hot right now…Bulls/Knicks/etc fans are hoping they are peaking a bit too early. They did this at one point last year.
