Often around 45% during his prime, a high season of 47%, around 42% his last two seasons in Brooklyn.  Why is Johnson, at his age now, shooting so well for the Heat?

There isn’t a low-post threat in Miami to attract extra defenders, Wade and Dragic can pass but they are not great, Whiteside gets 0.4 assists per game, is the only explanation Johnson found the Fountain of Youth in Florida?

He’s got a new "girlfriend" and he’s trying real hard to "show her the goods".

It’s those 0.4 assists per game from Whiteside. That’s where he’s getting the 4 percent FG % increase. Because Math.

Haven’t watched much Miami so this is kind of a semi-informed guess, but I haven’t seen him take a single "Iso-Joe" type shot. No step back, contested fallaways. He’s shooting kick outs threes, transition threes and layups.

Everyone knows Johnson is a good shooter. His percentages went into the ground because he was always taking difficult shots either at the end of the shot clock or just by a product of his ball-stopping heroball iso ways.

Less minutes, lesser role, a veteran player in a veteran team, picking his spots.

    Less 3 pts attempts too.

He was the biggest SG in the league for 10 years, now he’s almost a small ball point forward.

Good for the east PO, i would have been curious to see a delly-JR-JJ-bron-TT small ball vs the warriors tho.

do you remember Joe Johnson before signing that max offer sheet from the Hawks? he was serving as the suns’ primary back-up point guard, but when he would start, like most of the players on that team, he would differ to nash to create, and he shot lights out.

but even then, youre right, he dint shoot 51%, but it shows that he had accross the board good percentages when he played off the ball for most of his minutes. his combination of size, ball handling, strength and shooting allowed him to be Iso Joe in atlanta, but he has also shown us before as he is now, showing that he can be a very good complimentary player when differing to others to create.

Yessir, i remember when a 30% 3 pts shooter joe johnson played his only year with nash and finished 2nd in the league in 3 pts FG%(48%) only behind the bulls’s coach…he burried last week(lol).

Nash-JJ-Qrich-Matrix-Stat, best RS team, by far the best offense…10 years before.

WCF aginst the spurs, Johnson injured in the semis when he was averaging 20+ pts…

A 22YO STAT averaging 30 and 11 in the PO, 37 and 10 against the spurs, also 39 PPG, 75% FG in RS against them…against the one and only timmy.

      Good ol’times…

He does not have to do too much since he has Wade alongside him to take the scoring load. Like the previous post, he has less minutes and he is picking his spots on the floor. He was signed to improved the 3pt shooting of Miami and so far it has paid off and his 51% shooting proves it.

This is what happens when a vet buys in and knows their role. In Miami, he’s a skilled spot up shooter who can kick out the ball to slashers and isn’t asked to do much else outside of that. That isolation style isn’t needed here.

How about sample size? He’s never shot 51% for a season but he isn’t now either.  I would bet there’s been times throughout his career that he shot 51% over a few weeks span like he is now.
