McDunkinThe NBPA’s executive committee voted 8-0 for Derek Fisher to step down as president.
Derek Fisher has rejected a call from the NBPA for him to resign as president.
Fisher is again urging for a review of the union’s finances.
The NBPA executive committee voted 8-0 this week that they had lost confidence in Fisher’s ability to be president.
"I, along with many others, are extremely disappointed with the Executive Committee," Fisher said Friday in a statement. "Their demand for my resignation and their need to protect the NBPA management and their own best interests instead of protecting the players we were elected to serve is unfortunate."
Fisher said any player may request an independent review of the union’s business practices and finances.
"The allegations that are now being directed at me are defamatory," Fisher said. "But I urge our members to order an independent review beginning immediately and that will be proven along with finding out definitively if there are any issues with the NBPA’s business practices and finances."
"The Executive Committee based its decision on numerous instances over the past six months, where Fisher engaged in conduct detrimental to the union, including acting in contravention of the players’ best interests, during collective bargaining, declining to follow the NBPA Constitution, and failing to uphold the duties of the Union President," the statement said.

HotSnotParticipantPardon the pun but something smells Fishy in the NBAPA. I don’t see what the problem is… I’d like a chance to read a review of their business practises aswell. Like management in any company I’m sure their will be examples of self serving actions which are contrary to decisions made for the greater good… ie the players themselves. The NBAPA doesn’t want to be put under a microscope because they know they’ve screwed around.
I hope Fisher gets his way and stands his ground. Transparency/full disclosure is never a bad thing.

llperezim curious to hear the details. From what i’ve read on espn, fish and hunter are at odds and hunter is rounding up the gang to be on his side and out fisher. Fisher claims hunter is using union fees for his own spending or somehting like that and wants him to be audited and encourages all players to get involved not just the executive committe who is against him.

The QParticipantThe players would’ve been better off without a deal.
The league, not the players, really want a union.
Treble damages for 3 years of an illegal lockout would take care of most of these players. Especially after punitive damages are added.

llperez@the o, how was the lockout illegal? The deal between the players and owners was up.

The QParticipantIf the players decertified (which is ALWAYS the best move btw, always) then the league technically cannot lock anyone out since there’s no union to lockout.
