valentineYesterday The Great QuinceyHodges. hahahahaha..Started a thread about Ohio State guard Evan Turner being a lock to go 2nd..While i believe Turner is the 2nd best prospect in this year’s draft..Doesn’t mean he’ll go 2nd…I wrote in the thread that Cousins might challenge him for being the 2nd pick..Because in all my years of following basketball..Teams seem to go for big men with upside more than guards with upside..I also said in the thread ‘don’t be surprised if Hassan Whiteside & Greg Monroe goes ahead of Turner..Now i see NBADraft.Net has updated their drafting order..hahahaha…Last week they had Monroe going number 10 and Whiteside wasn’t even listed on this year’s draft by NBADraft.Net….

TH38L4CKM4M84Yeah everyone goes to rudboy when it comes to the draft.
I believe I was the very first one who said john wall was going to go first in the draft.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantIf Hassan Whiteside goes before Evan Turner, I have a pink slip waiting for a GM.

joecheck88Participanti agree with you but just because it shouldnt happen doesnt mean it wont. i know gms value big men but look at all the special free agents this year. with the exception of bosh and dirk everyone is a wing player. and even bosh and dirk are oversized wings that play down low. there is no tim duncan or shaq or d howard in this draft class so i think you have to assume evan turner will be atleast as valuable as the bigmen in this draft.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI wouldn’t be surprised if teams shot themselves in the foot and Turner fell a few spots… Reminds me of the 2006 NBA Draft when Roy fell down to 6th.

RUDEBOYTezo83…you’re right…thats exactly what i’m saying..gm’s are known to lean toward the big man..Look for Turner to be drafted in the top 5..Him going number2 isnt a for sure thing

tli232To be fair, if Turner fell past 3, it’ll be WORSE than Roy falling to 6, because IMO, turner has been a fair bit more dominant on his team than Roy was. I don’t think Turner will fall past 3 though. I actually think his back injury has boosted his stock as he recovered much more quickly than expected. GMs definitely look positively upon that. I feel like he has that D-Wade “knock me dow? I’ma get back up” attitude.

BiggysmallsParticipantApparently something is really friggin funny to Rudeboy in that 1st post cuz he cant stop laughing.
Whitside should not go ahead of Turner in the draft. What has Whiteside done? Teams drafting in the top 5 need guys that can come in and make an impact right away…I just dont see Whiteside doing that. I just dont understand the hype over him. Cousins, Monroe, even Patterson are all probably better than this kid. He’s a 7 footer who can run and jump…zip a dee doo dah.
I’m not saying it wont happen…though I highly doubt it…but it never should and any GM who doesnt draft Turner over anybody except Wall is going to be sorry. He’s the most NBA ready player in the draft and probably has the 2nd most upside.

JoeWolf1I know Whiteside has length, athleticism, youth and all the things that make up the prototypical raw potential reliant big man prospect, but could you imagine what Cousins, Aldrich, and Monroe would be doing to C-USA competition? While I love mid-major college basketball, there is a reason why their top players are rarely taken in the top 5 year in and year out, Whiteside would be a good pick in the 8-12 range.

lalailaParticipanti still would draft Favors over Whiteside..and actually it’s not that hard to choose one for me

JNixonParticipantWhiteside is overrated ridiculously…What’s the difference between him and Javale McGee? Would you draft Javale McGee over Evan Turner if you could? He has some great physical tools, but taking him over Evan Turner or DeMarcus Cousins, Al-Farouq Aminu etc is going overboard.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantHow good would Derrick Favors, John Henson, and Mason Plumlee be had they decided to go to a C-USA school? Would Mouphtaou Yarou be getting lottery hype? How about Daniel Orton? What if he backed out of Kentucky after he found out Cousins was going to follow Calipari to Lexington and then went to Houston or Rice? Some people really need to slow themselves down when they think Whiteside is a lottery pick. I am hoping beyond hope that the NIT gets Marshall a first round opponent with a team that has bigs. Get them a rematch with UNC. Let him get a crack at a Big East or ACC team.

tli232Honestly, if you look at games where McGee gets more than 20 minutes, he’s a pretty productive center. It’s just that he wasn’t a high pick; hence, his coach isn’t forced to throw him into the fire as much as Whiteside would if he becomes a top 5 pick.
I’m not saying that Whiteside is much better than McGee RIGHT NOW but it’s obvious that Whiteside will get a MUCH better chance to quickly learn the NBA game through more playing time, most likely against some starters.
Seriously, when it comes to NBA rookies, a LOT of the success of rookies depends on circumstance, as sad as it sounds. Unless you’re Darko (wasn’t Detroit’s pick), you WILL play decent minutes (yes, Thabeet plays a fair bit, he just gets into foul trouble too often).
I think at the very least, Whiteside will be a better Thabeet because from the few games I’ve watched of either, Whiteside does a better job defending one on one in the post. Could be the crappy competition, but that’s the feeling I get from watching Whiteside.

JNixonParticipantHey I like McGee, but would you take McGee over Evan Turner, Wesley Johnson etc? That’s my question. I think McGee has some nice upside, just as much as Whiteside, but I don’t think that he’ll be better than Turner and some of the other top guys. Maybe it’s just me though..
0 - Posted on: Tue, 02/23/2010 - 5:17pm #259819

butidonthavemoneyWhiteside is a better shotblocker than McGee was or is. You can tell by the stats or by watching him play. Offensively maybe they are similar, but your reasoning is flawed if you are saying that a weakness of Whiteside is that he reminds you of McGee. That means nothing.
Oh, but I do agree that Whiteside (or anyone besides Wall) over Turner is a mistake.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 02/23/2010 - 5:29pm #259821

JNixonParticipantHe’s a better shotblocker but he’s still a similar player. I don’t think the difference is all that big in that department either, especially when projecting him in the NBA. I’m not saying its a weakness that he’s a comparable player, my question is whether or not you’d picked McGee over guys like Evan Turner or the other top prospects in this draft…because I wouldn’t.
