SwatLakeCityParticipantI have a question about the lockout. We’ve heard of all of these NBA players who are threatening to play internationally if the lockout lasts past the fall and part or all of the 2011-2012 season is lost. Personally, I am fine with this. I think its great that these people still want to play and will do anything to compete and improve their skills. They are not going to just sit back and wait until the lockout is resolved. I think that’s great.
But my question is this. All these NBA stars who are doing this, will they come back once the lockout is resolved, or will they be signed onto a contract and the current NBA team has to workout a buyout (much like they have to do when they draft international players.) before they can get them back? Is there some kind of clause in their contract that allows them to come back to the NBA once the lockout is resolved or are they lost for good until their contract is bought out by their current NBA team?

mikeyvthedonParticipantThat would allow them to leave immediately once the labor dispute is resolved. If you are a Free Agent, you of course do not need to worry (Restricted only means a team has the right to match an NBA offer from another team, does nothing internationally). But, Deron Williams and Rudy Fernandez both were said to be mulling offers that would let them leave as soon as the NBA lockout was resolved. If this were not involved in the deal, than there would be even more dispute than there already is over them playin Internationally.
If Deron Williams does indeed sign this deal, I expect the Nets to put up a fight for him not to play, as he is technically under contract. My guess is, while this may indeed be awesome to see NBA guys playing internationally in the mean time, their will be issues. If the contract is challenged by the Nets, than it will be in the courts, and he will not be able to play in the mean time, as he would not be getting paid. So, if they do indeed not put up a fuss about Deron playing in Turkey, he still has an out clause if the NBA season gets going. If these did not exist, than there would be no chance of guys going to play overseas rather than just a small chance.
