417basketballfanParticipantwhat players would make a fairly easy transition to playing football. Lebron and westbrook instantly come to mind. Who are some other players and what positions

llperezi always bring up matt barnes when this topic comes up. He was a 5 star recruit out of citruis heights high school in scarmento. He led the enitre state of california in toughdowns his senior year. He had his choice of school as a football player and was much more highly regarded for football then basketball coming out highschool. He stated on mulitple occasions between his sophomore year of college at ucla all the way through his like 4th or 5th year in the nba that he would easily transition to football if basketball didnt work out.

dmo21ParticipantPlus his brother plays in the CFL. So it’s not that hard to imagine Matt being equal or even better than him.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantWard was an awesome college player but was a fringe NFL prospect at best. That’s why he decided to play bball professionally and ended up having a pretty good career.

CynthiaParticipantI went with defensive positions, this list isn’t based on whether or not they’ve actually played football before, more based on their build and aggressiveness:
Shawn Marion – Linebacker
Nate Robinson – Safety
Ty Lawson – Safety
Glen Davis – Tackle
Zach Randolph – Tackle
Andre Iguodala – Linebacker
Jameer Nelson – Cornerback
Ben Wallace – Defensive End
Dwight Howard – Defensive End
Kenneth Faried – Linebacker
Shaquille O’Neal – Tackle (That would be scary to line-up against…)
John Wall – Cornerback
Paul Millsap – Linebacker
Avery Bradley – Cornerback
Al Jefferson – Tackle
Draymond Green – Linebacker
Mike Conley – Safety
Victor Oladipo – Cornerback
Aaron Gordon – Linebacker
Ed Davis – Defensive End
DeMarre Carroll – Linebacker0 - Posted on: Fri, 10/23/2015 - 1:16am #1019783

DukeDaSquadParticipantMarcus Smart? Commentators always says that he has the build of a football player. Not sure what position he would play though.
Pretty much any athletic point guard, shooting guard, or small forward would make either good receivers or tight ends especially the 6’6+ guys with hops like iguodala, gay, lebron, durant, MCW, gerald green, jeff green, wiggins… The list goes on.
These guys would also be good at special teams defense because they would probably have a really good chance of blocking field goal attempts. Athletic Centers, especially like Jordan, Gobert, and Dwight.
I think the shorter guys would make good corners also.

myers3425ParticipantI will throw Jae Crowder out there 6’6 240lbs and known as a tough undersized PF/SF combo player. I think he has the athleticism to convert into a TE like some ex ballers have. Also Stanley Johonson has the size and toughness I think to have a chance at converting. Of course you’ve got to throw Nate Robinson’s name in there since he was a stud CB in his college days. If Aaron Craft makes a squad this year he was a all state QB in Ohio during high school with offers to play D1 football.

NBAjunkie81Participanthe was the QB & DB on his High School football team & led the basketball AND the football team to State Titles in his Junior year – he was robbed of the chance to defend those titles his Senior Year b/c of the outrageous Felony conviction that forced him to spend that year in prison before the govenor over-turned his conviction & he went to Georgetown for 2 years… He would have been another Charlie Ward or Michael Vick in college if he decided to play football…
I don’t want to make this a Sixers theme – but football is all about lower body strength on the Line of scrimmage & Jahlil Okafor’s built, especially his lower body, is like a tank – I think he would be a dominant Offensive Lineman & of course Lebron could have been an All World tight end….

T RexSmart could play half the positions in football, starting with quarterback as a 6’3, 230-240 lb quarterback with elite leadership and clutch play.
But he could also play tailback, fullback, tight end, strong safety, and linebacker.
Unlike a lot of these basketball players, Smart actually has the football mentality and toughness to make it.
But just like in basketball, Smart would probably be best, and an all time great, on the defensie side of the ball. Smart played strong safety as a kid, but he’d probably be the ultimate middle linebacker, quarterbacking the defense, using his elite lateral quickness to cover ground, and laying hits like Ray Lewis.

TarHeelRavenParticipantHow about Chris Paul as a quarterback? His IQ is off the charts and he’s wizard passing the ball. Seems like a fit to me. He’s not overly quick or explosive, but he has very good athleticism. It’s between the ears that makes him great.

Arc12345ParticipantIdeal size for the position and athletic ability.
Dude has thrown some absolutely astonishing football/baseball throws to Lebron while he was in Miami from one side of the court to the other. Completely jaw dropping.

DolanCareParticipantTo add on the ‘Glen Davis should have been in the NFL’ conversation, Big Baby is straight from one of Chip Kelly’s wet dreams. He’s a massive man who for some supernatural reason is able to play 25 minutes in a NBA game without collapsing. He would be an incase Offensive Lineman.
Luc Richard Mbah a Moute as a Linebacker would be scary. He’s long, strong and griddy, something you need to shutdown tight ends.
Reggie Evans as a tight-end. This man is tough as nails and rips rebounds out of the air… Perfect for red-zone scoring. He could have been Gronk status had he chose the grid-iron

T RexHe’d drop passes left and right, and Gronk is much more than just a red zone GOAT.
He’s the GOAT tight end, period, and maybe at any position by the time he’s done.

DukeDaSquadParticipantAlso, stephen curry has what it takes to be a good quarterback in my opinion. He’s a great shooter because of his mechanics and muscle memory, 2 very important aspects of being a good passer. If he had dedicated the time that he put into being a good basketball player into being a good football player, there is little reason to believe that he wouldn’t be a good quarterback. He would probably one of the fastest quarterbacks too but at his current build I dont think he could take a hit though he is very strong for his size.
Though someone can argue that his father had taught him the necessary mechanics to be a good shooter because he was one himself and therefore would not be able to teach him to be a good passer because he (Dell) does not have expertise in that area
Just my 2 cents.

JDB12ParticipantI think Kawhi would kill at at WR. Huge hands, athletic and would be automatic in the redzone.
Montrezl at TE.
Metta would wreak havoc somewhere on the defensive end.
