valentineJust one man’s opinion but this doesn’t bode well for the potential #1 pick.
Whats happens if he can’t play this season for both Kentucky and Skal’s draft stock.

Arc12345ParticipantThere’s a guy named Enes Kanter that has managed to have a pretty good career so far despite not playing a single game during his lone season at Kentucky.
I don’t follow the high school kids very closely, so I won’t pretend to know everything about him but from what I’ve seen he seems like he has talent and potential. I really don’t think it would hurt his stock that much.

negguaryParticipantHe’s a 7 footer who draws comparisons to Anthony Davis( not saying it’s accurate), he’ll go top three even if he doesn’t work out for any team and doesn’t play purely off of that. What that means for Kentucky though is that Jamal Murray will truly have the chance to assert himself in that top five convo.

TarHeelRavenParticipantWhat it would mean for Kentucky is that they won’t be in the final four next year in my opinion. Kentucky has other good players, but Skal is the real deal it would hurt tremendously not to have him.

Robb_CParticipantHes not Anthony Davis, More like Channing Fyre with a better post game.. I’ve been saying hes overrate for awhile I don’t see the fuss about him.. Its a very weak year for big men in this class.. I think that has a lot to do with why his value is strong

RUDEBOY_Participanthe’s not as gifted as anthony davis..but he’ll be a much better player than channing frye….watching him play reminds me of joe barry carroll…1 of the top offensive centers of the 80s,had career avg 17 pts/7.7 rbs….jbc made the all star team in 1987..

Robb_CParticipantNo Doubt Skal will have a better career than Frye just for the sole fact hes better in the post, I just don’t see Skal being that great of a post presence due to his narrow frame, which will allow stronger defender to bully him a bit.. Hes not good enough in the post yet to dictate how defenders play him… Meaning if I’m the defense in the post I’m forcing skal baseline and making him bang to get baskets..I dont see him being able to bang through the defenders that make him go baseline due to the fact he has a narrow backside.. Most great post guys have wide lower bodies which allows them to turn into the defender and put him on his back towards the hoop. Typically when I do my Evaluations I normally focus on two players common weakness oppose to common skill.. This is where Channing and Skal have similar styles of play due to common weakness, both are great face up guys that settle for outside shots due to the fact they have problems with stronger players forcing them baseline…

Robb_CParticipantHere’s a mix of Channing Fryes Rookie year in the NBA, Watch this http://youtu.be/voGZv5ZEVs0 Skals game is almost identical to Fryes early in his career

bumbleb33ParticipantNarrow frame? Skal has pretty wide shoulders and has bulked up heaps in the last year. Look at anthony davis, the guy had the narrowest lower body coming into the NBA. Skal actually weighs more now than davis did entering the draft

Robb_CParticipantDavis is a freak athlete, his athleticism is comparable to LBJ.. Skal isnt on The same level with Davis in that regard.. Skal has a narrow lower body which wil result in him having struggles with playing with his back towards the basket.. Davis has supreme footwork which allows him to be extremely active around the rim.

bumbleb33ParticipantSkal is still an above average athlete at that position. Just because he is not as athletic as AD dosent mean he will be crap defending in the post. Plus, AD is an All defense calibre player and DPOY candidate. No one is expecting that out of Skal

Robb_CParticipantI think you misunderstood the post, I was speaking of Skal at a purely offensive stand point.. Him having a narrow lower frame will result in him having problems posting up bigger defenders consistently..which I could see making more prone to float and face up making him a big that’s codependent on mid range game to find offense.. I could be wrong but I just don’t see him with the natural athleticism like Davis to makeup for his lower body strength

MopgrassParticipantIf that is true (source?), Marcus Lee will finally get his shot at center, Poythress moves back to PF, and they start three guards. Still sounds pretty good.
I’d just be bummed to not see Skai for a bunch of games to see how he develops over the year.

tblazer_NZParticipantTai Wynyard is going over in December. He would most likely redshirt this year if Skal does play, but if not then he would likely play. Tai is similar to Aaron Baynes (Who was born in NZ by the way Rip255).

Rip256So now you are trying to claim our players. Mika Vukona obviously not getting it done.
Stick to rugby…basketball has too many complexities for the average Kiwi

Memphis MadnessParticipantI thought the Grizzlies should have drafted Skal last year. We would have one year to sign him and I thought there was a chance he wouldn’t play anyway.
Not sure it is against the rules, but we probably would have been treated as a podunk Backwater team by the NBA — oh wait, we already are.
I wonder if Skal goes to China. Or Europe. Or maybe the D League…
The ONLY question: does the Skal 30 For 30 come out BEFORE he makes it to the NBA?

Memphis MadnessParticipantSkal will play SOMEWHERE. I still see him in the Top 5.
He not only has to fall, but others have to pass him, then a bunch of guys have to declare.
I am not sure how deep this draft class is anyway.
Two of my best bigs on the board (other than Simmons and Skal) are Sabonis and Poetl. Those two guys are good, but not sure they are worthy of top 5 picks.
I HIGHLY doubt though that he goes number 1 if he is ineligible to play at Kentucky. Just TOO much baggage, it would be an eye-opener to take a one year overseas expat at number 1, and I don’t think you can pass on Ben Simmons. Taking Skal at one after he has a hypothetically great year on a YMCA team in rural China would get a lot of guys fired, namely the GM, the coach, the marketing guy, and the top ticket sales person.

tuck243ParticipantI think he’s overrated and Coach Cal tend to be hard on guards that aren’t blazing fast or his only option. He did give Tyler rope last year though, but he’s also a better PG than Murray IMO. We’ll see what happens with UK now, but they have a few big men in the Top 100 coming to their squad. Skal shouldn’t be too much of an impact on that team.

HitsterParticipantIt doesn’t bode well for UK and Coach Cal’s chances in the NCAA tournament if Skal is deemed ineligible. But it won’t hurt Skal’s draft stock that much as Arc12345 said above. He will not have a chance to show up any weaknesses in his game so his draft stock has to remain fairly static. Other players may move above him but if he does solid workouts and comes across well in team interviews, guys of his skillset get snapped up fairly fast in the draft.
He could almost hire an agent, arrange to get a specialist coach him to help him hone his game and thus start prepping for the NBA draft right now. Going abroad to play would not greatly help him now I feel.
Would he be able to play D-League this season can anyone confirm?
