The North Carolina Tar Heels are no longer in the market for a point guard in the class of 2013. Nate Britt (Washington, D.C./Gonzaga), ESPNU’s No. 15 overall player and No. 2 rated junior point guard, committed to Roy Williams on Tuesday.

Britt averaged 13.5 points per game as a sophomore to go with 5.2 assists. In addition to UNC, Arizona, Georgetown, Maryland and Villanova were on his final lists. Britt’s dream school was North Carolina.

“It was like a dream come true that I could have the opportunity to go there,” Britt said of UNC’s initial scholarship offer. “From that point on it was about me looking at the school and making sure it was the right fit for me.”

In addition to playing for one of his region’s best high school teams, Britt plays for AAU powerhouse D.C. Assault in the summer. The previous three starting point guards for Assault had signed with Duke. Maryland was also heavily involved with Britt and had hoped to end the streak. However, it was North Carolina that had his heart.

A feisty competitor, the junior saw UNC as a chance to play alongside great players, including 2012’s top-ranked point guard, Marcus Paige (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Marr).

“The thing I look forward to the most is probably playing with Marcus Paige,” Britt said. “I feel like us two in the backcourt together could be great. When Coach Williams was at Kansas he had Kirk Hinrich and two other point guards and that was one of his better years at Kansas.”

Steve Turner, Gonzaga’s eighth-year head coach, is quick to remind on-lookers that Britt has two years of high school ball left.

“That’s great and it’s been hard for me not to want to tweet about it and root for them. Knowing that I’ll be going there in two years,” Britt said.

Turner cites Britt’s maturity and approach as big reasons for his successes.

“(UNC) can expect a guy that’s going to force the rest of the team to work as hard as he works night in and night out,” Turner said. “Guys are going to want to be around him because of his work ethic. Daily he wants to get better.”

He will most likely join Marcus Paige and will split minutes at the PG spot. I’ve never seen the kid play so can anyone give me a quick scouting report?

 I was hopin he would go to UMD, but I knew UNC was a shoe-in to get him even before he made his decision. Everyone knew it was his dream school. Well, I guess it’s time to go all out on the Harrison twins!

I saw him play @ Adidas Nations, but I forgot how he did.

When the Harrison twins commit to Kentucky, how will you feel?

 ^^ It’s not a guarantee. I think they’re top 2 is MD & Kentucky. The twins have links to UMD, and they’re AAU teammate, Shaq Cleare, already committed to UMD. And I believe their HS or AAU coach said that he isn’t big on the way UK operates, with all their one and dones.
