Monta had a pretty good game today. 24pts, 8ast, 6reb.
He has alot of games like this. This is usually what people hear about when he plays. People dont hear about this.

Monta had a pretty bad game today. He had 5 fouls, got blocked 7 times, had 9 TOs, shot 30% from the field, and was -2 in the +/- category.

This isnt the only game he has had like this. His stat like is like this pretty regularly.

wow battier had 6 blocks, i’m a big monta ellis fan, I think he’s a steve francis type player, who dribbles a lot and sometimes tries to do too much for his team. its hard to blame him with the roster than Golden State has.

That comment about the roster is a good point. I liked how he was playing along side Baron but now he is just playing out of control. Nice comment though.

thanks! i think he’s more of a number 2 option rather than being the main guy, he certainly doesn’t have the attributes to lead a team.

Good call. He made the comment that he wasnt gonna pick it up ect ect, when Jax was traded. After that, I really lost some respect for the guy. Do you think he is better suited for the PG or the SG on the floor. Also, what player would he play better with, a great big or another great guard?

I think he’s a bit of combo guard, but he’s better suited at the 2, because of his scoring mentality. I think a guard would fit better with him, he already has a good quality center in Biedrins. what if the warriors took jennings?

Biedrins is okay but I mean a guy like Gasol, Howard, Duncan, Bosh vs guys like CP3, Wade, DWill, Kobe.

nice, but i dont really think it will work. monta’s not the kobe type of player, he plays in a fast pace and he really needs another speedy and crafty guard to run with him ala Baron Davis.

I got ya and I agree. IMO, he needs a guy that can shoot whether its a big or another guard. Like Dirk would be a good fit and so would a guy like Ray Allen.

Agree with the statement. He needs a bigger point guard to play with him. A big guy would never get the ball from him. Even though he’s probably best as a number 2 option, he is always going to think he’s a number 1. I’m just trying to figure out how anyone gets blocked 7 times or have 9 turnovers in a game unless they are just completely overmatched. If you get blocked that many times, no matter how big the defender is, you are just taking bad shots. I notice that he usually has one of the worst +/- at the end of games. I think he’s just horribly inefficient. When he’s on he’s pretty good, when he’s not, he is flat out horrible.

is the perfect 6th man on a winning team a la jason terry or ben gordon, he doesnt have the size (6’3” 180) to play shooting guard or the defense for that matter..he has also failed at the point guard position…he can get a championship-contending team 19 points off the bench and i think thats how he should go about his career

I agree, I think Ellis would be the best 6th man in the NBA, and that appears to be where he’s best suited to me. A team with him starting isn’t going to be good (ala Jason Terry in his Hawks days) because of his approach on D and his “tweener” position. They are another team that really could’ve used Brandon Jennings. But players that are his size, and with his offensive talents are perfect for instant offense and 6th man roles. He’s not really a starter though, more so in terms of his limitations than actual production.

Put him on the bench and watch him whine. He would never accept the role. I don’t know if he’ll ever play for a really good team unless he matures and becomes are smarter player. No good team will ever want him if he keeps playing like he does. So he will probably bounce around from bad team to bad team his whole career.

I think Monta is better than a 6th man, but I do agree he need someone just as if not more prolific next to him for him to really shine. If you watch him games, more than half those misses and blocks and turnovers were in the last 5 minutes of the game. This is the most crucial part of the game obviously.

My point is that Monta is still learning to be a leader. He’s taking his lumps and hopefully he’ll get better. At the end of games he gets crazy and just tries to do way too much. He hit like 1 of his last 7 shots maybe, and about 3 or 4 of those blocks were within that time-frame too. He’ll learn but it might take some time. Much better than a 6th man though.

Comments on Monta’s defense are not right. When a guy plays 46 minutes a game, he’s not going to be able to go all out on both ends of the court, but he can be a very good defender. He leads the league in steals and he shut down Brandon Roy in there win over Portland a few weeks ago.

He’s a pretty strong guy too I don’t think he’s too small to be a SG. Much bigger than Ben Gordon probably by like 4 inches…

He’s not that strong, and he’s definitely not 4 inches taller than Ben Gordon. Gordon is also much stronger than Ellis. I’ve watched Ellis play D, and he’s only good when he’s pressuring the ball, which is why he gets steals. And he isn’t smart on D either, he gets caught in screens, doesn’t close out, and he usually gives up just as much as he scores. This isn’t really helped my him having to defend SG’s sometimes either, because he does defend PG’s somewhat better than 2’s.

But he’s not going to be a winning player if he’s a starter. I just don’t see a team with Ellis as a starter, and definitely a starting PG, winning very many games. Even though he’s a beast on offense..

Um idk if you meant bigger by height or size, but Ben Gordon is also 6’3 if not a few inches shorter and Gordon is much more muscular than Ellis

Reality is his coach puts him in terrible positions to put up that kind of line…He should be off the ball, i watched that game and he dominates the ball, virtually plays 48minutes and they don’t sit him with foul trouble. That team is a one on one or one pass team. With those shooters if they had real ball movement it would cut down on the turnovers and opponent easy baskets. They need to keep curry on the ball and build his confidence because he has smarts and knows how to run a team well

Ellis is a very good player. He just needs to let the game come to him. He tries to do to much and he will mess up. He would be a great player if he would calm down and just play, when you just play you have good games.

I agree with Pistonsman. I personally place the blame on the coach. Nelson has never developed talent well outside of letting them play however they want. Ellis’s skills have improved since being drafted, but his awareness hasn’t, and better coaching would alleviate the lion’s share of his issues. Not to mention he doesn’t trust Curry as the primary ball handler, and doesn’t have a lot of help, (the starting frontcourt of Morrow, Radmanovic, and Mikki Moore is nothing to right home about). I wouldn’t say Ellis is the worst good player, but the best player on a terrible team, roster and organization wise. The system would benefit a true point guard, but as of now, Ellis has to do things he inst good at.

And Ellis had a -2 rating because he played the whole game and they lost by 2. Thats it.

I agree with what appears to be the general sentiment here. Ellis can score, but not much else. He would be a good 6th man, but a good team can’t start him, at least not at pg.
