IknoBall12ParticipantIs it just me or does Mitch mcGary remind anyone else of Tyler hansbrough? I feel like there somewhat the same relentless player. Tyler had that little annoying flip shot he would do in the post that ran me crazy for years but the guy got buckets. McGary is a little different and may be a more ferocious rebounder but what do y’all think?

river09ParticipantDoes McGary have very much range on his jumper? I haven’t been able to watch much of him this year..

druneave3ParticipantHansbrough woke up at 3 am to eat he was so concerned about his lack of strength. McGary is a brut and has more than enough bulk to play at the next level. Psycho T plays panicked, rushed, and flails about. McGary is a poised player who uses his body extremely well. I think McGary’s finishing ability and short game is much better than Hansbrough, who struggles to finish and is always throwing his body into defenders because he struggles to finish. Both give extreme effort but that is where I would end the comparison. From hearing recent interviews I also think McGary is well above the 3rd Grade reading level held by Psycho T. I am probably biased because Hansbrough is in my top 2 least favorite players in the league, second to Tyrus Thomas, but I believe McGary is a much better prospect. I doubt he will stay in school like T did. McGary is taller w a bigger wingspan as well.

mcbaileyParticipantThere are so many assertions in this post that I can’t agree with in this post.
Tyler might as well be the poster child for hustle players, but he does finish plays a lot better than you seem to believe. He drives hard to the basket, but it’s hardly fair to say he plays “panicked” or “rushed.” I’m also not sure where you get your opinion on his intelligence. He’s understated and relatively quiet, not illiterate or stupid. His mid-range jumper is also underrated.
I mean, I agree that McGary’s bigger and is probably a better prospect, but come on. There’s a difference between being biased and being a troll, and I’m having a lot of trouble deciding which you are.

druneave3ParticipantWhy do you think they call him psycho T? Have you ever seen him play? Does anything about his play say “poised” to you?
As far as his home school edumacation…………

TallmanNYCParticipantTyler seems to have much better touch than McGary, but is a few inches shorter, I think. I don’t really see much similarity between them. Tyler draws fouls at a tremendous rate even in the NBA. But he is too short (and short armed) to score at a great rate close to the basket. But McGary might be asked to play center and then he will be a little short for that position as well.

festar35ParticipantI still think David Lee is a good comparison (not just cos they are white and left handed). They are both athletic and have good all-around games, not too mention a good ability to score and rebound.

SpacegrassParticipantMcGary compared to Hansbrough? Similarities are they both have that hustle trait , they were both 20 year old freshmen , upside is limited with both , and they are both white. That is about where it ends. McGary is a little taller and thicker though Hansbrough was as tall and had the same wingspan as Blake Griffin at the 2009 combine(6’9.5″ and 6’11.5″ wingspan). McGary goes 6’10.5″ with a 7′ wingspan but does go 260 where Hansbrough was about 230-235 at the same time. I like McGary quite a bit but the thing that kills me is you are comparing a guy that averaged 19ppg , 8rpg , and shot 57% on a lesser team to a guy that is having a good 3-4 game stretch in the tourney.

Ghost01ParticipantI actually think David Lee is a lot quicker and McGary. It’s probably the most realistic comparison you are going to find but Lee is pretty versatile and flourishes playing on up-tempo teams while I could see McGary using his body and being more of a bruiser.

r377ParticipantA few of us have him a slightly more skilled version of Nick Collison…
