The New Jersey Nets, Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets have agreed in principle on a three-way trade that will send Terrence Williams to Houston, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Lakers guard Sasha Vujacic and a 2012 first-round pick from Houston will go to New Jersey. Nets forward Joe Smith will join the Lakers, who also will send their 2011 first-round pick to New Jersey. The deal can’t be finalized until Wednesday, the first day Smith and other free agents who signed in the summer can be traded.
—————————— \
I understand the Lakers end. They save $4 million in salary and another $4 million in tax. That is $8 million for a pick they don’t want. Good job. Plus, Joe Smith gives Phil the additional big he wants. What is Houston doing? How far have they fallen from two years ago when they looked like as smart an organization as anyone. Now, they want to turn it into bum central. Maybe that foolish Anthony Randolph for a first rounder has some credence. It only takes one dummy. Good for New Jersey. They are still bad, but down one bum with two picks with which to help fix the problem. Sasha better watch his back. The boss might be angling for his girl.

RickyRubio9ParticipantTo be honest, I like the trade; especially if it’s one pick only.
Terrence Williams is a stud when he wants to ball.
Although we’re getting pretty crowded.
Courtney Lee, Shane Battier, Kevin Martin, Chase Budinger, and Jermaine Taylor.
Throw in T-Will & we’re crazy stacked at the Wings, it could be a move that’ll help get a bigger star i.e. Melo.
I’ve always been a fan of T-Will since his sophomore year at Louisville.Who knows,
Melo to Houston? (:
For… the other pick, Shane’s expiring contract or Scola’s new contract. Throw in a Chase Budinger, Lee, or Williams and I think that’s a pretty nice deal. Perhaps even J-Hill who has shown he’s a player or Patrick Patterson0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/14/2010 - 2:31pm #457889

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantWhat do you mean bad for Houston? Terrence Williams is a very good player, why are people knocking on the guy? If we were able to deal with Ron Artest, why not TWill?
He has a lot of potential and along with Kevin Martin, Jordan Hill, Scola, Brooks, Courtney Lee, Kyle Lowry, and Patrick Patterson.. They can make very good role players for potential stars to come to, we will have about 20mil to spend this offseason and after we resign Battier, we’ll have a good 16mil. And as a Rockets fan, I would really hope they make a run at Melo if he’s available at seasons end. If not Melo, atleast Thad Young and Kendrick Perkins.

BKKnicksfanParticipantCongrats to Houston, you added T-Will. He probably adds 2 wins to the roster…… 35 wins I guess.
People are like: WHOA?!??! New Jersey has 5 1st rounders in 2 years. Congrats…still doesn’t mean you can keep Melo if u move for him. Brook Lopez has taken a step back, Devin Harris is overrated and NONE of the additions this offseason stepped up. Oddly, Damion James has probably been the best addition this year for the Nets.
Good move New Jersey but you got 2 potential late round picks? I’m also thinking Houston protected thier pick as well as L.A.

sheltwon3ParticipantHouston has enough young players and they traded a draft pick they may wind up being higher than though like the Knicks picks and got Williams who can be an all Star in a few years. Williams can also play point to some degree. Houston got the better of the deal because NJ has not be known for using money or picks well. Favors may work out well. Brook is alright but he has been slipping lately.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantI think your team is spiraling towards Minnesotaness and Sacramentonia. Is there a worse spent $75 million in the league right now? The last time Houston was good was when they were a nasty defensive team with Ron Artest (who has always been a worker), Battier, Yao, Landry, Scola, and Brooks. Now, they don’t guard anyone. You are talking about Kevin Martin (a scorer who is a bad defender), T-Will (clueless as to the fact that NBA players need to work), Jordan Hill (unskilled energy), Courtney Lee (dime-a-dozen wing guard), and Kyle Lowry (respectable backup point guard who is horribly overpaid). That is a dysfunctional way to allocate close to $20 million. I like Luis Scola as much as anyone, and he will work on both ends as well as fit any role given to him so he is someone they can win with, but if he taking 16 shots a game that is a bad team. They need either some trade magic to land Melo (which is even less likely now after dealing a pick for Williams) or some lottery magic to get a star before they start turning that thing around.

BKKnicksfanParticipantEveryone keep saying Knicks picks. It’s only the 2012 pick and the RIGHT to swap in 2011. They own one pick.
I don’t know who wins this deal…

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantYeah, we have about 75m in salary right now, but this off season it will go down to 33m so I don’t see what’s wrong with that? Look at this lineup and tell me it’s bad.
Brooks / Lowry / Twill
Martin / Lee / TWill
Battier / Budinger / TWill
Scola / Patterson / Hill
MillerAnd if we choose to resign Yao, which he is averaging 10/5 in half the minutes so if you give him his respective minutes, 18-9 are NOT out of the question. Then we will have about 5 mil and the MLE to spend this offseason, we can go after Dalembert and maybe Reggie Evans. Just like that our frontcourt turns into a defensive monster

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantWithout Yao, that team is a whole heap of bad and nobody knows whether his body will even allow him to keep playing. Sam Dalembert and Reggie Evans won’t change a thing, they’d just add more bad contracts (because someone always overpays for numbers on bad teams).

I just said we resign Yao and add Dalembert and Reggie Evans. We are 9-14 with our franchise and best center in the leauge (when healthy) playing only 5 games. You have to remember just how damn good and unstoppable Yao was. We’ve never really had a good backup center and the last time we had a good backup PF, it was Carl Landry. But now, we’re adding 2 defensive and rebounding presences. We all know, to be successful in the West, you NEED size. Yao, Dalembert, Miller, Scola, Evans, Hill, Patterson add size and depth.

Dwight-12for the lakers. they save money, and get joe smith is a a extra big man you can use in the playoffs. but for houston i dont understand. you have courtney lee, twill , battier, jermaine taylor, Budinger , kevin martin, alot of wing players. unless they trying to trade for a star player. i really dont get it.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantYou need talent. Reggie Evans plays hard and go to the glass. It has gotten him a job in the NBA and made him a lot of money, but he doesn’t help a team that wants to compete with the top teams in the West. He is an even less skilled verion of Chuck Hayes, and Sam Dalembert is the 7’1" version of Evans. Neither makes the team better. A healthy Yao Ming makes Houston better, but that is why resigning him will cost a lot of money. Because of the health risk, it is a gamble. If they think that they can compete for something anytime soon, they’ll sign Yao and go for it with a short deck of players who either don’t play defense or aren’t professional enough to show up on time. If not, they are going to let him and be a bad team for a number of years while people think Terrence Williams is good while he is launching up shots when the team is down fifteen points.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantTerrence Williams brings energy and he could turn out to be an Andre Iguodala type player. Athletic and high octane guy who can pass, rebound, and score whenever he feels like it. Combine that with nice outside shooting of Kevin Martin and Brooks, a defensive front court, and the best center in the L. That makes for a tough team to beat in the playoffs.

omphalosParticipantThis move sucks for T-Will. Hopefully he isn’t in Houston for long, because I don’t see him getting much PT behind the bevvy of wing players they have at their disposal. I just feel like the Nets screwed up bringing in so many players at his position and displacing him, because he could have been a big part of their future if they just had the confidence in him. I know he screwed up by being late for practice etc, but the kid is talented, and I hope he eventually ends up somewhere he’ll get PT, like Bayless found in Toronto.
I feel like Charlotte would be a good fit for him, they have little depth at the wing spots, and a few young players who would pair well with T-Will. Plus, a coach in Larry Brown who loves "problem" players.
Not sure how valuable the first-round picks are this year, with the lock-out looming a number of players might stay in college who would’ve otherwise declared. Will be interesting to see come draft time.
Clearly, the biggest thing here is that Vujacic is gone from the Lakers! Let’s see if he and Farmar bring back the old Laker days together (probably not).
