McDunkinEuropean basketball isn’t that different than the NBA. Sure it lacks the big stars that grace the NBA, but the passion, skill and fundamentals are all still there. Without a doubt European hoops is entertaining as all get out.
Know what else it has? Brutal flagrant fouls.
Witness Panathinaikos forward Mike Baptiste channel his inner Albert Haynseworth and stomp the head of Olympia’s Saso Ozbolt during a recent Euroleague game. And that was after Baptiste had scored on a tough layup to tie the game. Hopefully that’s not how he celebrates all his baskets.
Baptiste was given an unsportsmanlike foul, and his team went on to lose 85-84. At least Baptiste had the good sense to make his way over to Ozbolt to see if he was OK. Oh wait no he didn’t, at least not until his coach repeatedly urged him to do so.
I’m going to chalk this one up to Baptiste making a horrendous mistake in the heat of battle. Either that or he was just trying to put out the invisible fire on Ozbolt’s face.
