SwaggyQ3ParticipantI want to know peoples opinion on Loul deng decision to return to miami for another year. Personally if I dont know if the heat want him back, hes good and all, but I think Winslow is the future of this team, Deng and wade are getting up there in age, and I think the Heat need ot look a little more into the future, or sign younger free agents. I also think Deng should have opted out and joined a team that has a legit chance at a title next year because with his career winding down I want him to win a championship and staying with the heat it jus wont happen. Obvously i believe he will leave after next year, but still i think it would have been a good decision for the Heat and Deng to jus part ways with each other

Anton123ParticipantI’m pretty sure Luol Deng came back because he knows he isn’t as good as he used to be and no team will pay him 10 million to play for them. He’s also only 30 and will probably have another couple seasons to do the whole "veteran on a championship contender" thing. So I think it is a good decision for him personally. But for the Heat – I agree it would have been better if he had opted out, however I don’t think they are contedning this year regardless of Deng’s decision, too much uncertainty about Wade, Dragic, Bosh’s health, Hassan Whiteside… Right now they only have 2-3 okay starters on their roster (Bosh, Deng and, maybe, Winslow), so it’s not like they have an abundance of players and will have no time to develop their young players.
In my opinion Deng resigning isn’t a huge problem as they should be focused on their future and he’ll only be around for another year. At worst he’s an expiring contract which they can probably get something for during the season.

Anton123ParticipantWhat I meant is that everybody outside of that group are below-average starters. Obviously Bosh is a very good player (if he’s healthy), but Deng at this point in his career, to me, is only an okay starter, yes.

logicParticipantDeng coming back is good for the heat. Allows them to bring Winslow along slowly and with less pressure to score. Let Winslow worry about hustle plays and defense. Deng should still give you a respectable option on offense while playing steady defense. I do eventually see deng being moved to the bench because the heat starting lineup has enough scoring with dragic wade (assuming they both resign) and bosh. So I just think deng on bench and Winslow starting will eventually be the better fit.
I’m with everyone on thinking wade will resign. But if he doesn’t I could see him go to spurs if the spurs miss out on gasol and LA.
