Memphis Commercial Appeal is reporting that the Grizzlies are close to signing guard Tony Allen..Memphis were 1 of the worst defensive players in the league last season..And Allen would be a much welcome defensive presence..This is a signal that Ronnie Brewer will not be returning..

Bad move, if you ask me. Brewer is a great defender, younger, and his offensive capabilities are much better than Allen’s. Allen airballs half of the jumpers he takes.

If that happens, that would make Memphis pretty loaded on the wing with Allen, Gay and his big contract, Henry and Mayo.
With Wesley Matthews signing that rather large, front-loaded contract with Portland and Korver already gone to the Bulls, maybe the Jazz will look into signing Brewer again. I can’t remember where the report came from, but that was listed as a possibility by some insider.

I just don’t know why the Grizzlies would trade a future first round pick to get Brewer and let him go after 1 year.

id take brewer any day over allen. brewer is a pretty capable defender himself. an dhe gives u mor eexplosiveness and scoring power than allen does

I’m shocked noone has even been interested in Ronnie Brewer.

He’s a solid defender and could score as good as a 4th option. If I was a team like New Orleans, I would bring him in to start at the 2 and allow Thornton to be the 6th man

Teams have been interested in Brewer. I’m guessing he’s just been receiving low ball offers or he could just be looking over all of his options.

As a Celtics fan, I kind of like this. TA is a great defensive player, look what he did to Kobe in the Finals, and a high energy player, but he is a bad offensive player. He can’t shoot or finish at the rim, and has mediocre ball handling skills. He is about as good a perimeter defender as you can find. He shut down Kobe whenever he was in the game and still forced turnovers.

Doesn’t Sam Young do -basically- what Tony Allen does? I don’t see the need to make this signing. The Grizzlies are a bad defensive team, but the wing is not the reason. Mayo, Young, and Carroll will play rather well on that end.

I think Demarre Carroll will be out of the league in 5 years..He has no skills..Just an athlete…
Sam Young overacheived last year.He’s more of a 9th or 10th man off the bench…And Allen has too many holes in his game…
