valentineWell apparently Carmelo has said nothing about only signing with the Knicks. He has denied ever making that claim and just like lebron,Cp3. His reps and friends are the sources telling people he only wants to go to the Knicks because that is where they want him
To be. He has said he is still thinking and hasn’t. Ruled out staying with Denver. I guess we havn’t learned from this past summer about believing every source no matter how close they are to the player0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/14/2010 - 8:20am #457416
sacphil_08ParticipantYou know, i used to not respect carmelo early in his career because he had a very lazy and lackadaisical approach to preparing for games. it showed in his performances and its obvious he could take over whenever he felt like, he just didnt feel like it. since the 09 playoffs when denver game LA a run for their money i have since changed my views on him in terms of work ethic etc but what is now bothering me is how he is making this like a soap opera when it comes to him and his free agency and that kind of thing. coming out and saying (or not saying) that he’ll ony sign the extension denver is offering if he is traded to new york and i honestly believe that he said that. i just dont like the way he’s handling the situation is all. why not handle these things on the low behind closed doors and we will all see the outcome at one point or another, but to continuously hear about how he’s changing his mind and how he’d like to play one place or another while hes still playing for his current team to me is not the right way to handle it.

mikeyvthedonParticipantBut we had a lot of sources saying a lot of things this summer Quincey, but it all comes down to common sense. Personally, I am starting to believe that at the very least, there is no chance Melo re-signs with Denver. Mark me down as also believing solidly he will end up in New York, as that is the only place he wants to go that could actually legitimately sign him. People may want Carmelo to be there, but I ultimately think Carmelo wants to be there too. If he goes somewhere other than New York, I will be surprised. If he stays with Denver, I will be completely shocked. But, if Carmelo wanted to go somewhere other than New York, chances are he would have been dealt by now. I can not blame him for wanting to go to New York, it would be a great system for him and having Amare Stoudemire as a second option would be a big step up. One thing I do think though, is that when he ends up in New York, him making these countless statements about "keeping his options open" and the rumors being totally false will make him look pretty ridiculous. Prove me wrong, Melo.

Sorry.Winning.ParticipantWhat if CP3 gets traded to the Nuggets? I mean I know Denver doesn’t really have any sexy assets to give for him but given the state of the current Hornets team with ownership issues what if they choose to rebuild. I would only assume the deal revolve around expiring contracts, Lawson and draft picks. I know this is totally absurd to think that this would happen but if CP3 was traded to the Nuggets does that convince Melo to stay and sign?

sheltwon3ParticipantThe Media is blowing this up just like they did with Lebron for like 2 seasons. Melo would just like to play this season out and weight his options. He has leverage but does not have total control. The Nuggets want to keep him and they will do the same thing that Cavs tried to do and make it seem like he is turning on his fans if he says openly he does not want to play there and want to go to New York. Melo doesn’t have to say anything. He has already declined a contract extension so it is quite obvious that Denver is not high on his list of places he wants to go.

sheltwon3ParticipantWhat could Nuggets give New Orleans for Chris Paul. Also with the NBA running New Orleans, if they make a deal it would be one sided towards New Orleans of help one their top franchises.

QUINCEY HODGES1I don’t blame melo because he has stuck with his story from day one. He hasn’t flip flopped and from day one he has said he will talk about this with management. U can’t blame him for these so called sources because he hasn’t changed his stance one bit. So the soap opera isn’t his fault because he has done what u are suppossed to do which is talk to management behind closed doors. The soap opera is created by the media, the”sources” and agents. Those people should just shut there mouth and let melo continue to play his cards the way he has been playing them

QUINCEY HODGES1Declining the extension is smart just like how Kobe did. He’s waiting to see what moves Denver is gonna make and what direction they wanna go. The picture becomes much clearer after he has the scheduled meeting with management

NYK2010ParticipantCP3 to the Hornets isn’t likely, the Hornets didn’t trade Collison and Bayless to then move Paul.
It doesn’t make any sense, the Nuggets don’t have top picks or quality young players except Lawson to send back in a deal.

andxxxParticipantsheltwon3 this situation is different from Lebron’s, Lebron expressed little desire to actually play for New York and was more media hype than anything, but with Carmelo we know he wants to go to a big market in the east coast preferably New York

BKKnicksfanParticipantI’m not giving negatives, but after 200 plus articles saying he wanted to go to NY and that he wanted the extension there….you pick one of the 4-5 articles about him declining going to NY.
Come on Quincey.

JNixonParticipantI honestly was thinking the same thing KidKyrie. I don’t know much about Anthony or what’s going on off the court, I’m more of a guy who likes to watch games and pay attention to things on the court, so I rarely take part in discussions about trades, free agency, legal troubles etc etc., but it seems like you just don’t want to see Carmelo play for New York. One source isn’t going to change perception about whether or not he goes or stays. Hoopsworld could be wrong, but so could the other sources. There is no real need to make a post about a SINGLE source saying something as opposed to multiple saying the contrary.

QUINCEY HODGES1Because I havn’t seen one article where Melo says he wants to only go to the Knicks. I actually thought he would go because of these sources then I realized, where is it that he has ever said these things from his own mouth? Everything is ” a source said”. With Lwbron it was also ” a source said” on top of Bron going to yankees games with Yankee hats. We just automatically believe it’s a done deal because of what a source says even though the player has said nothing to support it and has flatly denied it. We have all been going by sources like it’s 100 percent fact. If you look at old post alot of us have been doing this everytime a report comes out saying a source says this or that. Has no one else noticed this??

QUINCEY HODGES1I’m no longer just relying on what some unnamed source says. I’m gonna go by what the player says and if the player is noncommittal then I’m gonna go by that untill proven other wise. Too many times I’ve done like many on here and just ran with what some unnamed source said

BKKnicksfanParticipantLike I said before….you can go and say " Hey, the unnamed source! Don’t trust him"
But it’s a double edge sword…..He could lie as well. Then what?

apb540ParticipantI hate this whole situation. NO ONE knows what Melo is thinking so let’s stop trying to speculate. How about a thread about the Nuggets being 14-9 and whether or not they are a legitimate NBA finals contender?
PS: I am okay with Melo trade ideas. Trade ideas are the best part of this site haha always good debates

Sorry.Winning.ParticipantI know CP3 to the Nuggets is the most unlikely of any scenario but one could only dream ya know, and I did mention that Denver has no assets to give up. Haha something you could def pull of in NBA live though….even though it got discontinued.

sheltwon3Participantandxx did you read what I wrote I know Melo wants to go to New York but i said the media is blowing this up like they did with Lebron and his free agency. I never compared what Melo wants to do and Lebron. I knew Lebron would leave yet the media kept this story going for 2 year about where and stuff and that hurt the Cavs fans but they didnt care. That is like someone reporting all the time that your wife is going to leave for two years before it happens. How about if it is going to happen let it happen but don’t let me have to hear about it everyday. That seems depressing. Melo is handling thing behind close doors. The media should not know every detail that is going on in negotiations.
