The Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets have engaged with the Boston Celtics on Rajon Rondo trade talks.

The Celtics have engaged on several fronts on Rondo with the Mavericks showing an increased interest. The Mavericks have a clear need at point guard.

Rondo is scheduled to be a free agent this offseason.

I know he’s an expiring contract and has an injury history, but after talk about them waiting for the right time to trade him for what feels like 3 or 4 years, the idea that all they’re going to get for him is a couple 2nd round picks, 1 first round pick, and Brandon Wright seems so odd to me.

Would be a good get for Dallas though, although I wonder what a Rondo-Ellis backcourt would be like.

The idea that the Celts would trade Rondo for Wright and future low picks is lunacy.  They could probably get Hibbert for very little now or for nothing in free agency after the season.

Yeah, you’d definitely think they could get more for him.  The Kings for sure could offer more, but I’m not sure how much they’re willing to offer without Rondo committing to an extension (which it doesn’t sound like he’ll do for Sacramento).

Then again, if the only teams interested are Dallas, Houston, New York, and Sacramento, they really don’t have many better options.  Knicks could offer a guy like Shumpert or Hardaway, but I’d probably rather have Wright to be honest lol.  And I doubt they would offer a 1st round pick like Dallas supposedly is.

Houston doesn’t have much in terms of prospects either unless you like Terrence Jones, Motijunas, or Kostas more than most (and Jones and Moti aren’t good fits in Boston anyways).

If Rondo were willing to sign with Sacramento, they could offer a nice package including McLemore or Stauskas, but again, it doesn’t sound like Rondo will commit to them, so I’m not sure what Sacramento would offer in that case.

I think Dany Ainge is using this to raise the price for Rondo up, they could get more value then the Dallas deal.

If they don’t trade him now, I doubt they can pull a sign-and-trade next offseason. That salary will be tough to match. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of his… but his trade value is almost zero considering he’s an expiring contract.

Woj just tweeted that the deal has been done.

BOS receives Brandan Wright, Jae Crowder, Jameer Nelson, 2015 1st, future 2nd

DAL receives Rajon Rondo and Dwight Powell.

He also tweeted that Rondo’s agent said he would have signed an extension if he was traded to Dallas or Houston.
