In his updated profile they compared him to Stevie Franchise, That’s a new one.

I’ve only heard from this board……Jeff Teague, or Jayson Williams(Duke Allstar)

I don’t think he is explosive or as quick off the dribble as Stevie was, but it’s a decent comparison.

    What yall think?

Personally I don’t like the Steve Francis comparison. Francis is on an elite level athletically and quickness wise and is in rare category where Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook is. Marquis Teague is not that type of physical marvel, he’s impressive but hes not in Francis’ class. If he was he would be challenging for the #1 pick spot.

If you wan’t an idea of where Marquis is at physical tools wise (athleticism, speed, quickness), I would say he’s in Stephon Marbury’s level.

I think he’s a lil more athletically gifted then Marbury was coming out, but not near the freak Steve Francis was. People 4get Francis went toe 2 toe with Vince Carter in that NBA Dunk contest and if it were anybody but Carter i believe Francis would have shut it down. Just my opinion i see a more of Devin Harris in Marquis Teague. A speedy, quick, athletic PG thats constantly in attack mode.

Believe it or not Teague is in the mix for the 1st overall pick, we dont know how his game translates to the next level yet. I would compare Teague to someone like Baron Davis due to the size and natural strength of both player. Calipari will get the best out of his PG like he always does.

Im sorry but i can’t believe he would be taken over the likes of Andre Drummond (If eligible),  Harrison Barnes, or his own teammate in Anthony Davis.

Maybe you believe he’s in the mix of #1 just because Calipari has been delivering NBA with top PG’s. But to say he’s #1 in this loaded draft, you might as well say he could have gone #1 in the 2011 draft. I don’t even know if I’d even choose Kyrie #1 in the 2012 draft.

Yeah it’s not a terrible comparison considering the fact that they’re well-built, athletic scoring point guards who thrive in transition and struggle with shooting and running a halfcourt offense. That being said, Teague is not on Steve Francis’ level.

mess.eee is right, Francis was on an elite level athletically and in an age before John Wall, Derrick Rose, and Russel Westbrook, he was ahead of his time. He also had a nasty streak to go at his defenser relentlessly. What ended up being his downfall was a lack of coachability and selfishness.

Teague is a great athlete is his own right, but not at that level. He also doesn’t have that level of game or scoring punch. Francis had one of the deadliest crossovers the league has ever seen, and a burst to the rim and finishing ability that was on par with any point guard.

I’ve seen a lot of Marquis Teague, and my comparison has been to a smaller Rodney Stuckey. He’s a few inches shorter, but is closer to him athletically than the truly elite guys in the league. He also is a straight line player, who doesn’t have alot of sizzle to his game and is most effective putting his shoulder down and bullying smaller defenders.

His handles are suspect for a projected lottery pg, especially when he’s forced into a secondary move. Like Stuckey, he’s a talented 1 on 1 scorer who plays point guard, but is not a pure distributor. He doesn’t have great command of an offense and instinctively he thinks to shoot first.

Again, I do think that they approach the game in a similar fashion, but Teague’s not nearly as good.

Steve Francis got 7 rebounds per game in one season, that’s 2 more than Andrea Bagnani got this season, the guy was a freak, and it’s sad to see him go out the way he did.
