high floorParticipantThe Orlando Magic’s freshly minted #5 pick put the world on notice after a very impressive performance today at the Euro Basket, scoring 24pts, 6rebs, 2assists, with a 5/6 mark from deep. Mario is only 20 years old.
This is why I’m so excited about this pick for Orlando. Nobody currently on the roster has his ability to both spot up and create his own shot from behind the arc with a high %. He brings much needed diversity and parody to their defensive oriented team. As seen in the highlights below, he looks comfortable as a go to scoring option amongst older, more experienced teammates. I think he’s going to be a stud.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantBut doesn’t Andrew Harrison still exist? You haven’t abandoned your messiah have you?

Rip255Im not the Harrison guy. I already mentioned in another thread…I dont have any aliases on here.
I dont have any beef with the Harrisons.
Only players I homer for are the Aussies.
Im still sticking with Herzonja tho…

herceg_bukuParticipantNo offense, great post but check what u post first. BiH stands for Bosnia and Herzegovina, not Serbia. However, he is a great prospect and he has a bright future in the NBA.

high floorParticipantI knew it was Croatia vs. Bosnia Herzegovina. It’s not like me to make those kinds of oversights

herceg_bukuParticipantIt happens to everyone, the only reason is that Serbia has a pretty good team defensively and they proved that in the World Championships last year, until far superior team of USA destroyed them in the finals. So i was just questioning if they would have allowed Mario to just go off on them like that. Great post though!

Rip255Altho Serbs and Bosnians pretty touchy about that…the fact Ive never been banned is proof that the ‘Flag offensive’ button is purely for show.

Bucks1234ParticipantMario had a great game but look at Giannis last game he played for the euro-tourny. He put up 22 pts, 6 boards, 2 steals, 2 blocks in limited minutes. He has been tearing it up all tournament with few playing time. Can’t wait for the season to start with Jabari coming back and addition of Monroe. Giannis is going to shine!

Stop_basketball_nonsenseParticipantLook 1st of all high floor, the magic was 1 of the worst defensive teams in the league this past year & 25th in team defensive effiency overall, saying they are a defensive a oriented team is an oxymoron. I live in The town & they knew they needed more of a hustle/ defensive players, but they passed on cauley- stein, Stanley, &Winslow also hezonja was the best prospect available. I know some will say they needed 3pt shooting, but unless Mario becomes a 3&d guy versus the go-to scorer he is projected to become which we’ll have to see, but i think they should have gone with a defensive guy & aquired shooters later, bevause we all know defense wins championships.
They have solid scorers & oladipo was their only above average defender. I know a lot of people have high hopes for Mario, & I hope the best for the guy, but with vucevic, harris, oladipo, fournier, & now hezonja, vic can’t pull all the weight defensively. There needs to be rebounding, hustle, & spot up 3pt shooting with less go too scorers. If Mario is going to become a go to scorer I don’t think he is the best fit for this team, to be honest people watching the draft in orlando thought the magic would let harris walk in free agency after Mario was drafted.

high floorParticipantThe Magic’s previous 3 lottery selections before 2015 (Oladipo, Payton, Gordon) were universally regarded as highly athletic, defense-first prospects coming out of college. I think if you polled the nbadraft.net forum most would agree with that statement in regards to their defensive potential on the perimeter.
That’s what I was referring to when I typed defensive oriented team. This team is still a bunch of babies. If they don’t improve 12-14 spots in the defensive rankings this season then I’ll retract that statement.
I also live in the town and am a season ticket holder… maybe I’ll see you there this season

DolanCareParticipantI pray that the Magic’s desperate need for shooting doesn’t cubbyhole Hezonja into a Rudy Fernandez role. Hezonja needs to be given the time to work on his ball handling and shot creation
