    Rockets Part Ways with McCants

HOUSTON – Guard Rashad McCants is no longer with the Houston Rockets.

McCants was invited to the team’s training camp to try and earn a spot on the roster.

However, McCants is not healthy enough to compete, so he was not signed to a contract.

"Unfortunately, Rashad is still recovering from an abdominal issue that woould have made it very difficult for him to earn a spot on our roster," said Daryl Morey, Rockets general manager, in a statement Tuesday night.

"We were looking forward to seeing him compete with the mix of guards we have in camp, but he simply would not have been completely healthy."

Morey acknowledged in his statement that McCants could be brought back at a later date when he is healthy.

"We are open to taking another look at him down the line when his condition improves," Morey said.

McCants split time last year between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings.

He played his first three and a half years in the NBA with the Timberwolves.

During his career he has averaged 10 points, 2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.

Bummer, A lot of Rockets fans on here were pumped to have him. I hear they are trying to reach a deal with Brent Barry now. I saw this on insider.

The Houston Chronicle reports guard Brent Barry has not reported to the Rockets, which is fine with the team. The two sides are trying to find a new team for Barry. If they can’t find a deal, the Rockets will try to buyout his contract

I’m trying to figure out why the Rockets wouldn’t go after McCants. I’m sure he can be had really cheap. He’s young and he still has upside. I could see him being a nice piece to a lot of teams. Plus they are really going to need some scoring this year.

McCants is a great player but he has an attitude problem he think he deserves it all when he hasn’t really proved anything yet.

There should be plenty of teams seeing this as an opportunity to pick him up.
